  • everyone's a fucking expert these days

  • Very far from the right place to learn how to play this instrument! plus you guys are confusing people with the terminology...

  • These guys are taking over from Mamady and Famoudou!

  • Es una broma? Creo que estos videos son de coña no?

  • how du moov the text?

  • hey dude,if you use crepe tape on your remo djembe,it will sound less like crap.

    Little drum trick.

    Cheers

  • very nice!!

  • Not correct information concerning polyrhythms. When you play a polyrhythm the idea is to play an upper rhythmic pattern such as eight notes with one hand, while the other hand plays an eighth note triplet, or 2 quarter notes with a quarter note triplet over or against it. Triples over duples or vice versa. These guys are only playing with sixteenth note rhythms. I will post my own video soon showing the correct way, one of many ways to play polyrhythms.

  • Check out the following videos here on polyrhythms: BeatScheme | February 05, 2008

Peter Magadini author of: "Polyrhythms The Musicians Guide" and "Polyrhythms For The Drumset" sub-divides quarters, eighths, triplets, and sixteenths in 3 , 5 & 6 over 4 beats. He also demonstrate...

  • Not bad for two people who have no real training. Been to a lot of drum circles in the last ten years where people of all ethnicities have had less rythim than this. This definatley isn't Mamady Keita but we weren't all given the opp. to be chosen for the African bellet before we were born. Have fun guys ingore hatred, radiate love.

  • I must agree this is not what I'd expect from the title.

  • lovers

  • Si no fuera tan gracioso seria vergonzozo, lo que no es bueno es que visitantes en busca de informacion crean que esto tiene alguna conexion con musica.

  • I'd never heard of "expertvillage" before. After seeing a few of their videos, It's like a music store selling guitars so they can sell books so they can sell lessons so they can sell strings & tuners.. oh, you mean you wanna be a musician? i'm worried my view count might suck someone else into misinformation, disguised as education & sharing.

  • I somehow find myself coming back to these 2 time and time again, just to reassure myself that I'm not too bad after all......

  • @aeophylus frigging hilarious....hahaha.

  • @aeophylus ,thank you :-)

  • Harry and Floyd....

  • could probably play that on one drum...maybe

and how is two rhythms polyrythm?

    poly meaning many? no?

  • no poly means more than one

  • please go away !!!!

  • these guys are dicks

  • expertvillage strikes again with another dumb video. this is NOT polyrhythmic in any sense of the word. two drummers does not equal polyrhythm.

  • Ma che merda è questa dai....

  • this is so bad

  • Amazing master drummers!

  • I hope that you're being sarcastic.

  • @Hayakanashi The information that's posted in this video is not correct. There are no polyrhythms being performed in this video.

  • horrible shirt....

  • i truthfully prefer my drums tunned way down, give me more of an aray of sounds, with the drum tunned way high you get fewer sounds, with it tunned way down you have more ability to manuveir the skin to bend the sounds.....

  • WRONG

  • this is not a polyrhythm.

  • PUAH!

  • Gotta love African drumming! =D

  • I've been playing djembe and djun djun for about 15 years. I don't really have a problem with the techniques they are teaching, everyone can't be (and shouldn't be try to be) completely traditional. HOWEVER, could they find any worse sounding, poorly tuned djembes on the fucking planet? Makes me sick to hear someone play those undertuned ringy toy Remo crap djembes. Tune em up, or get a real drum, or quit playing.

  • the tune of the drum is not a problem. like many people within this world, every single one has their own tune of spirit. if you cant stand the way some people have their drums tunned then its not really their drum, its actually more of your spirit calling out for a different tuneing...

  • i belive that alot can be learned from djembe polyrhythms when playing other musical instruments, considering that most popular music has roots in african derived blues music

  • ..and they keep posting this nasty videos....

  • horrible...

  • Whether or not you like these two guys doesn't bother me...what bothers me are the few ignorant statements on here that djembe has to be played a certain way. I agree you should know and respect the origin of an instrument...but would you have yelled at Hendrix for playing his guitar upside down? Music is subjective, and playing instruments in new ways is partially what creates new music. Please call yourselves djembe players and not musicians, because you don't know what music really is.

  • Djembe music is very complex and has enormous variety due to these reasons one Village/Master plays one way another plays different this is the way relax and let the music grow, I have seen videos and witnessed people teaching supposed tradition djembe music which they cant even play properly I would rather learn from a player with little knowledge of traditional rhythms but who can play than someone who has studied lots but can't play.

  • son como el oyo los qliaos aprendan a tokar despues enseñen! XD

  • Balandugu Kan Djembe Foli Kan

    Bolokada Conde

    Thione Diop

    Mamady Keita

Look up anything with the names above for real Djembe masters. Do not watch this video for any lesson on technique or rhythm. This video will start you down the wrong path and it will be very hard to learn the proper way later.

  • oooh, that was pretty strong comment, and as a seasoned musician wanting to switch from congas to djembe I will check out those players you mentioned, thank you. Gotta learn the basics the right way for SURE!

  • Boy, I J.Gatlin Totally Loves the 'Djembe Drum' this is a very 'Aswome Drum'. 1-2-08.

  • Ohh man... there is no respect for djembe and djembe players... i think you must get a lesson before give a lesson ;)

    bless

  • They are not Djembefola they are not Griot so they play in their own way and they create and use different rhythms, if they like them and enjoy playing them whats the problem.

many rhythms travel and sometimes become distorted through mistake and design but new rhythms are born, this has always been the way, the only reason the rhythms you study, copy, play and love is because someone played them in the past and people liked them so they lived on grew and evolved,

  • dude.

    that's just.

    terrible.

  • basic iz basic ... u do one ... have fun boo ... absorb, aspire, enlighten! ... ronI az raZ rantZ ...

  • can only repeat: Maybe the TWO most terrible djembe players on youtube.....

  • where are polyrhythms? eh eh!

  • Polyrhythm means playing more than one rhythm at the same time so as they are both playing different rhythms from each other then it is polyrhythmic, it is possible to play a polyrhythm in different ways on your own but that is not what they are doing, the most common polyrhythm is to play a 3 against 4 a very common African technique, but as I already stated they are not doing that but that does not mean they arent playing a polyrhythm.

  • Polyrhythm are referred to metric modulation, or melodic accents,

two rhythm binary played at the same time are not polyrhythm.

  • @Tablaji71 You are correct sir! I'm hoping people are not taking the video here as gospel, because it is not correct information.

  • My friends get a teacher - someone who is African or who was taught by an African, this the truth. Djembe is serious music, not just to bang on - give respect. You can also buy a DVD - recommended Mamady Keita: Malinke Rhythms from Guinea Volume 1 - start with volume 1. Another excellent and recommended DVD is by Michael Taylor - Remembering How To Drum these are the best. You will not be sorry.

  • oh my... just watched Ibrahima Boka Camara Djembekan. Never seen such a thing! I would like to learn some djembe... I purchased one. So many on this you tube think these lessons all over are bad... Any recommendations of videos to watch and learn proper BEGINNER from scratch technique?

  • pure newbies might gain something from this. but don't be fooled; there is so much more out there.

  • you make me sad.

  • It's a good training session for the boys. Do not call it a lesson.

  • horrible pibeees !!

  • check out Onur Nar.... by far the best drummer in the world.... Turkish Doumbek rulz!!!

  • you guys suck! go to arabic solo drumming.egyptions are the best drummers

  • you suckman. get a fuckin life.

  • Jesus! That's rhythm is called Ayub when its played fast or when its slow its called Zaar. It's from the middle east and it is not filled in like that. These guys are really bad. Their hand technique is just awful. And polyrhythm, do they even know what that means? I guesss not! These guys are idiots and they don't even know it!

  • Experts? Why is this labeled polyrhythm? I suggest you learn what the term "polyrhythm" means, and take a beginner's course yourselves before making any more educational videos.

  • Wow...I've been studying West African percussion for 6 years with master drummers from Guinea and Mali and all I can say is: Please stop teaching this as Djembe technique. This is not African drumming. Check out: "Ibrahima Boka Camara Djembekan" on youtube.

This will show you what a master drummer sounds like. I don't mean to be rude, but this watered down interpretation of West African Malinke drumming is, from a cultural perspective more harmful than helpful.

  • So many hateful messages within, but only here is some useful leads to correct what all the ruckus is about! If your eyes and ears see something of poor quality... remember this is JUST you tube, not BBC documentary. Next, rather than just call someone stupid, it is good to give correct information or leads to where one can obtain such information. Thank you for the information!

  • No shit. Look at the dude on the right wearing some tourist african shirt and that even sweeter neckless. I agree, fuck off.

  • You don't really know how to play the djembe!!!!

    Fuck you man!
