Great review. I just picked up one of these in a trade and didn't really know how to use it. Oddly enough, the trade included this pedal, another V-twin rackmount, and a 20/20 power supply.
I wondered how these work with other pedal like tubescreamer and I've got a Seymore duncam mayhem and a gt10 ....do you ever boot the twin up , I have just bought one and hope Ive done the right thing, my mayhem is metal worthy but bluesey it isn't ;) I wonder if both would work out on the same board .....;))
This guy likes to here himself talk. I will never get the time back I wasted watching the 1st 6 minutes. Please if you make another video, please just play it and show the difference like you started to (more then half way thru it). I will not give this a good rating because so.
would this sound good on a hotrod fender? the distortion on the the amp is wayy bad and my cleann is amazing.. I play indie alternative rock and ive tried many pedals.. please help
Beleiev it or not I bought a DIgitech rp1000 and I play it on a clean channel and the unit sounds amazing, the cleaner the channel the better. My unit is $399, but you can get smaller units for less. Its a very versitle unit and you can use it with or without other pedals. I'm no pro by any strecht, but I own a lot of gear and its sounds pretty daym good. Also Wample Pinnacle is a good pedal. Good luck
Wooow....A wallmart power supply? I wish you'd have talked about that for another 5 minutes, really really fascinating. And the master volume is for the overal level you say? No way. Groundbreaking. Thanks for clarifying.
@17RockAholic Blues and Rock gave me nothing but complete boredom, until someone decided to change that. What "gave" us Metal was someone saying "Fuck your boring ass blues and rock!! We want LOUDER and FASTER!!"
@demonrule What are you talking about? Metal (and subgenres) is my favorite genre of music, but you can definitely see a lot of reputable guitarists use bluesy rock licks. At least show some respect to the roots/foundation.
@sk8fakie I never said Metal didn't come from blues/rock. I'm saying Metal is the essence of rebellion and aggression that those parent genres lacked. Any true Metal fan will tell you that they don't give a shit about SRV or Led Zepplin. Those styles are boring and uninteresting. And when you're doing a video review of a stomp box from a company who's flagship amp, the Dual Rectifier, being synonymous with Metal, and also incorporating some of the same tech, people want a just demonstration.
@demonrule You're opinion on a "true Metal fan" is subjective. I'm a huge music fan; I enjoy every genre except rap (I enjoy old Hip-hop). I've been listening to metal for years and all genres of it. It's my favorite kind of music, but I love SRV, Led Zeppelin, and many other classic bands/artists. Just because one loves metal doesn't mean they won't/don't appreciate or enjoy other kinds of music.
@demonrule And who was that person that decided to change that? probably a blues /rock player ...maybe? the point is, you couldnt have had metal if blues and rock didnt exist..
Actually, opposite to many others here, I really find this video useful for all the people out there, who never had a chance to see or hear this preamp. It's very detailed explanation of all its parts and all types of sound it delivers. Two thumbs up.
Not to be rude, but could you please make another video based on how it sounds, with more playing and less talking. I want to hear more of the distortion sound and how heavy it could get.
can I use clean , blue and solo chaneel by useing the switch in a live or in a song ? I don't want to bypass it to get clean sound , or maybe I use a power amp , it can't produce any sound if I choose bypass switch ,, thx !
I have one, interesting that your lead sounds a bit muddy too. Lot of bass, quite a saturated sound. Probably not my cuppa tea but hanging onto mine; have to say your blue boss blue-driver sounded better to my ears! and is much cheaper ...
I have one of these for sale. It is in great condition as it was never used in a band situation or playing live . It was only used for personal entertainment (which was a waste of a great pedal) My hands are too far gone with arthritis to play anymore :(
so this is up for grabs.

@MartiniusMartins shut up and fuck off, if you just wanted to hear it and not hear him explain things and what it does go to a shop and test one out you ponce!
hey man! thanks for putting the effort to review it. let me ask you something: does the "solo to blues" switch under it really work on yours? I bought mine used and the switch doesn't do anything so I was wondering if you had the same problem.
Hey you're sweet and all but can you play? It's a great pedal just like everything thing else that comes out of Cali. Most of all it's a Boogie.Crank that bad mutha up and let us see what it's got.
Excellent review. It seems to add quite a bit of compression to your guitar tone, I'm assuming that it drives your amp's preamp tubes into compression just a bit?
For the majority of the review all you did was talk for roughly 7 and a half minutes, and then demo some of the settings for about 2 minutes and 30 seconds. When doing a product review, it should be at least 50/50, if not completely the other way around when. Specs/features can be provided through text. People seek out these videos for sound samples of the product and examples of practical application.
@bgtocak good idea . I'll do more demos in the future (hey , sold all my gear , so , let's buy new gear ! ) (especially , recording gear , a great little amp and a few pedals) and i'll do this like that :
1) play .
2) write down all the talk in description and try keeping the video as straight as possible .
seems more relevant to me , if you dislike the tone ,why listen to the whole fucking video ? and if you like it , you'll be happy to read a few comments in the description while listening!
a better title would have been an in depth analysis of every knob jack channel and feature plus added bonus 2 minutes of sound demos!,thanks for including the last part, also your playing is very good, now that you got us here via the pedal lets hear some, rock us,do not be shy?,3 channels you could have jammed for at least a min or 2 on each?
este sujeto es un imbecil. toca tu guitarra pues animal... haces perder tiempo, hablas mucho y encima tocas mal. no demuestras el verdadero potencial de este pedal.

thats because thats exactly what it is its not a distortion pedal, if you were to use this with a combo amp, you would have to run it through the return on the effects loop for best results... good day to you
Those of you who spoke negatively about this guys pedal or his playing, are a bunch of FUCKING IDIOTS! This pedal and this guy's passion for his gear in my opinion, is quite cool actually. Most of you probably can't even afford a pedal of this stature, so go get a job and quit being jealous of another rock musicians equipment. Oh, and 38decembers, obviously by your comment, you didn't pay attention to what he said in the vid, or you might know the answer to your foolish statement.
You shouldn't touch tubes with your bare fingers. Use a cloth or gloves. The oils from your finger tips will cause that section of the tube to run hotter and cause defects.
Now at sometime you will be playing right? First review I have ever heard without actually hearing it(almost). Now did it sound like a mesa boogie because of the pedal or BECAUSE YOU RAN IT THROUGH A MESA BOOGIE AMP!!!
Exactly what I was thinking-you already have the subway amp and you want to like a Mesa?On Ebay theses run like $3oo-400 and the subway's like a grand-just buy the amp..
James, let me guess your one of those "death metal guitar rock gods?"....LOL!! I would venture to say that your computer speakers are shit, either that, or you got cotton in your ears. So what pedal do YOU recommend, Mr. "Know it all?" LOL
Yeah I guess you're right... Mesa Engineering doesn't know anyting about building tube pre-amps and etc. I'd rather have that $25 fuzzbox you use. What was it again? The CluelessNewb CrapTone ?
I messed around with one at the store a while ago, using my Danelectro Baritone... sounded awesome, definitely the best sounding dist. pedal/preamp I've used.
Wish I'd bought it (was only 200-ish at the time... the only one i see on ebay is up to 400)
Great review. I just picked up one of these in a trade and didn't really know how to use it. Oddly enough, the trade included this pedal, another V-twin rackmount, and a 20/20 power supply.

That pedal is definately not the best. One of the worst in my opinion.

yeah try using it to boost a point to point wired tube amp. My V-Twin however dropped about 5 feet and hit concrete and never worked again.

Ideal in front of old mastervolume amps, bassmans, twins, superleads.
