  • "This is the song of my year abroad" :D lol I say that all the time. Brilliant.

  • "I drank water on my Year Abroad" Haha awesome video, thanks!

  • Do you think you could do a video on survival in England for students outside the UK? I feel like since you know a lot about studying abroad and I'm sure you know a lot about England, it would be very helpful.

  • hahaha I'm from Germany and I went a year abroad to Britain :)

I wish I'd seen that before I went XD

  • I'm halfway 4 months in the US right now, and what you said about expectations is sooo true. I can really tell that when I feel homesick, it's just because I compare too much. If you just go along with it & enjoy it, you feel a lot better!

  • How scarey can Europe be?..........well if you need to acclimatise in a great European city with possibly the greatest cathedral in Europe then come to Lincoln.

  • I'd hit it

  • mmm franziskaner hefeweisen =)

  • Moving to Berlin on Monday. :D

  • @MisterAlexGabriel Good luck!!

  • I lived in Germany for 2 years way back in the 90s and Laura's guide is great......

  • I've been watching your videos all year while preparing for my Year Abroad in Russia and France, and now I'm on it. Thank you :)

  • I'm so glad you're back!! :)

  • I'm from Norway, spent a year in the US as an exchange student in high school, now I'm moving to England in 4 days to go to Uni where I'll be studying languages, and the 3rd year I'll spend abroad in Germany lol. Also, a bit odd that you talk about Europe as though the UK's not a part of it :P

  • All your videos are hilarious, Laura :L

  • very good advice! I studied abroad in the US for a year and studying in the UK (that's abroad for me too) now, so I can definitely agree with a lot of those things you mentioned

  • How're you compressing your videos?

  • @TomSka Tom, you'd be the perfect person to ask! I don't know, I can't understand why its comes up all pixel-y on youtube. Is it something I'm doing or youtube? I don't think I'm compressing it at all, unless I am without realising it. Any help?

  • @Laurbubble Bounce an email to me at tom at thetomska dawt com - we'll figure this out!

  • I thought England was in Europe... Isnt that like me living in Canada saying that Im going to North America? I'm already here lol

Good tips though. Wish I knew a few of those when I went to Costa Rica lol... Good video!

  • @masterlink101 It's different though as we are not connected to the rest of Europe, we are an island off the coast of continental Europe whilst Canada is joined to the USA.

  • All sounds like very good advice. :-) But why close your bank account?

  • @charlyandjosh She probably opened a German bank account. But once she leaves Germany, she no longer needs a German bank account.

  • @masterlink101 Hmm... Yeah, I guess that does make sense...

  • @charlyandjosh There probably would have been too many service fees using her english bank account in germany for a whole year lol.

  • @charlyandjosh When I stop becoming a student in Germany, the bank I was with would begin to charge you so it is just safer to close it

  • I feel like you made this video for me ^_^ nice one

I recently found out that americans don't really eat curry like we do, unfortunately I don't think i can pack chicken korma in my suitcase :(

  • @Epiphanized Pack curry paste instead if you have room! Then you can make it when you get there :) Hope you're having an absolutely amazing time!

  • I loved this! plus, Hot red would suit you better ;)

  • @TheRandomDirector haha thanks :D

  • Haha, there's a reason I told them I'm Welsh =P

  • No KETTLE!!!!! :'(

  • Mmmm Laura in hidef

  • This is perfect Laura, though I'm coming to England from Europe instead. :) And we met at SitC (which was lovely), where you were fooled by my "perfect" English. lol. But it's nice to see you make videos. :)

  • i am thinking about doing my PhD in Ireland or England... but that's 4 years and that's a long time... so i don't know yet ;) but i only finish my masters degree in 2 years, so i suppose i have enough time to think about it :)

i really like these abroad-videos :D (the preroll before this one's a bit annoying though, because i have to wait every time ;))

  • I ALWAYS look forward to your videos!

  • Love your videos - these are very useful!

  • Glad you added skype in the links :) A must have for us internet beasts x

  • England is not in Europe?

  • @oliwood2 when Brits say 'go to Europe' they mean the mainland of the continent rather than our rain drenched Island. Good vid Laura, know a few people heading out soon will show them this.

  • @madbob73 Ah I see. I guess it isn't targeted too much at people who consider going to The Little Continent.

  • @oliwood2 When British people say Europe they are usually referring to eastern Europe and not England, Wales, Scotland or Ireland.

  • this is also usefull just for holidays abroad :) also check the voltages of any electrical equipment you are taking with you, just because you have an adaptor doesn't mean it will work :)

  • I've got 2 years before I go on my year abroad in moscow and paris, however I'm excited already!

  • This is very helpful, as well as perfect timing! I'm going to Moscow for my year abroad on Thursday! Thank you, Laura! :D

  • I like the introductions with tha salsa music :D

  • It sounds mildly bizarre to ask you this, but I'm a uni student in Australia thinking of studying abroad in England. Any tips?

  • Thanks so much! So useful.

I am guilty of the "I drank water on my *time away*" (I spent six weeks in africa) And my family got so sick of it. I feel bad now, but I really missed it.

  • We should do a China one!

  • All these videos are brilliant... YOU ARE BRILLIANT!!

  • My year abroad was in Edinburgh :) best year of my life!!

  • awww this video reminded me of my year abroad :(

    I miss Sheffield.

    great advice tho!

  • I'm going on an exchange to Birmingham, Uk from Canada in eleven daysssss :)

  • I'm not thinking of doing a YEAR abroad...but I'd love to do a summer semester in Scotland.

(please insert the typical "you want to leave sunny AMERICA to go to SCOTLAND???" here)

  • I've GOT IT! You are a mix between Katy Perry and Kate Middleton.

  • would pollinate

  • Your grandfather is adorable. Makes me miss mine :( Glad you have fun, though!
