  • adding to the louder at a high RPM from my last comment, it does not speed up, it is just seems to vibrate more at that RPM. The knocking doesnt speed up with acceleration.

  • That is how my 88 wrangler is too. I have a weber carb on mine also lol unless that is the EMPI carb. Kind of a diesel sound, it is steady like that too and is loader at a certain RPM. One guy tould me it is a rod bearing causing the rattle. Another older guy who has owned many jeeps in his life told me it is a valve knocking and to just ignor it. You can fix it, it will just come back.

  • Hey did you ever figure out what the know was? I have that knocking sound coming from my 97 Sahara 4.0 and the knocking speeds up with acceleration.

  • @Apiroshay Rod knock you need a new engine.

  • wat 89 do u have like 2.5 liter. i have a 89 jeep wrangler 4 cylinder and mine has never done that

  • going by how fast the knock is, it is probably just a valve tick. if it were a rod knock it would be a slower knock

  • want to figure out what it is? cut the top off a hockey stick or broom stick hold it to your ear and run the other end along the valve cover if you hear it loud and clear its lifters if you hear nothing loud than run it along the side of the block and listen if its bottom end start looking for replacment parts and ora new motor/jeep

  • vaccum leak

  • could be many things, one simpling thing to check is making sure all your cylenders are firing
