@24Rorschach The rangers are not anything speacial. The army is so large and slow moving so back in the old days They devloped the rangers to be set up similuar to Marine rifle company. Small,highly mobile and self seffecant. I worked with some in Iraq and they are good at what they do but are not any kind of spec ops or special forces, They do seem to get the best toys and gear though compared to us Marines

The army sends the rangers because they are a light weight highly mobile unit and can move at short notice. The soc calls on marine infatry all the time espically the meu units. I was on the 31st mue when the uss cole got bomed

@24Rorschach also I did not say they where like marine infantry, they are nothing alike like I said we crossed paths with ranger units several times in Iraq. It takes a hole ranger platoon to do what a marine fire team can get done in less than a hour. DONT EVER THINK THAT THEY R LIKE MARINES THEY ARNT FIT TO HOLD A MARINE GIDE ON

The only reason why I'm not in right now is because I'm still only half way through my junior year. I think we both miss understood eachothers comments. Every soldier (and marine) I've met in person acknowledged that Rangers are spec ops and do incredible things...

@24Rorschach I served ten years with the 75th and the101st and just recently came home, listen to me, if you are going to basic. Do NOT try to stand out, be a bad ass, or any other macho shit. Do your job, keep your eyes forward and dont draw attention to yourself. Never volunteer and always help your battle buddy. For the first two weeks, life in basic is hell, then they back off SOME, another week and Basic is actually fun. Hollar if you have any questions, i'll be glad to help.

@24Rorschach When I went to talk to a group and try and bum a smoke because nobody got mail back in 03 and there was no resupply inthe orginal invasion, I saw a ranger platoon with most of there uniforms looking like marines. I asked y. A very large sgt replyed to me, " because we get shot at less" true story. but good job for joining in war time that shows a lot in a kid
