this is amazing. Every time I hear this song, I picture it as a prelude to a gang related war. Everybody is loading their guns in warehouses and what-not
I know the saxophone, and when it got to the saxophone solo, it sounded like the player was struggling, but trying. It used to be my least favorite part of this recording, but I've come to love how the guy pulled it together. Now the whole thing is my favorite part.
Sad that the base intro had to be cut to fit youtube here, though. :(
I was the bass player in a big band in college that played this. I used to piss off the reeds because they couldn't keep up with me :-P And as it starts in a 12 bar bass solo essentially, the bassist sets the tempo (and quite frankly, key if he's feeling malicious hehe). After practice like 2 or 3 sax players would be like "dude slow down our tongues are going to fall off." Whatever man.
@irgifted Its not the sax players that id worry about stabbing you after rehearsal haha, its the brass players in that soli just after the entrance (not a true soli, for Altos have it too).
@irgifted It is extremely complicated :D I chose this as a song to playalong this morning...i did all in double tongoe (my own technique, not traditional dt) and i could only play it once before my tongue decided to just have seizures in my mouth during the first 38 bars^^
After that, it gets kind of easy once you have the fingerings in your brain.
This song is the greatest and difficultest song i ve ever played and it is amazing to play it so fast , because you are going into a crazy feeling and feeling like flying about the pages xD Ilove it !!
yeah we just got this for our jazz band. and the tempo marking was quarter note=200. the beginning base line was all quarter notes and then it gets fun
If you know enough to ask , you could figure it out by tapping your foot and counting to yourself, and then playing around with an online metronome. (Google search: Online Metronome)
I don't know and I don't feel like figuring out now, or I'd tell you. It's pretty fast though, although you probably already knew that.
I'm in an eighth grade jazz band and playing this. I only just found this is stuff of college bands

we're learning this
but unfortunately we don't have any trumpet players!
so it's just saxophones, flutes, and a few clarinets!

Upwards into the 400 bpms.
Cut time is the best way to count it, but count each bass note = quarter note.
So it's really quick.

jeeeeez that is really fast!
we played this in school for a concert in a club down town and i thought that we played it fast! ha!
i agree...piano solo rocks!

It's supposed to be a spoof off the original Batman theme song.
You know, the one with Adam West?
Listen to it, it sounds a bit like it.

Holy crap, I'm playing it for my High School Jazz Band, and my teacher said it was fast, but I didnt know THIS fast!
I'm used to practicing it at 112 on a Metronome at MAX.
I better break out my trumpet and start playing it faster.

Liking it. I haven't heard this actual track but is there a similiar version under a different name? The beginning sounds really familiar

Sounds related to "Hora Decubitus."

Respond to this video... SMPotatoes: That's cool mate. It's just the drum solo. It's not as if it's a part of the music....
