With Jafar seeing Iago put up his foot to kick the lamp into the lava, since Jafar is a magical and powerful genie, I wonder why he didn't use his genie magic to prevent his lamp from falling in the lava. He could have stretched his hand out to catch it or he could have made something appear so his lamp will fall on it instead of in the lava. Unless maybe the reason he didn't stop his lamp was because, since he's a prisoner of it, his powers don't work to stop it from any danger.
@afriendofbean "Unless maybe the reason he didn't stop his lamp was because, since he's a prisoner of it, his powers don't work to stop it from any danger."
That's actually a great hypothesis. I never thought of that possibility. I was always curious why Jafar didn't bother saving the lamp himself, and I always dismissed it as simple convenience in Disney storytelling.
My guess is that Jafar can do his genie magic on anything except his lamp where he is probably not even able to touch it if he's a prisoner of it. (Maybe if he tries to touch it, some magic will appear out of it so his hands or any of his genie magic won't go near it). Probably Jafar's lamp has invicible magic eyes which prevents him from causing any magic to it and prevents him from using his genie magic to rescue it from any danger. (Genie couldn't touch his lamp until he was free of it).
@afriendofbean Because, a genie cannot directly interect with its lamp, aside from going inside and being called out. At least thats what i've read online
Yes, I also think that a genie is not able to touch or cause any magic to it's lamp as long as the genie is a prisoner of his lamp. (I saw on the first film that, while Genie was a prisoner of his lamp, Genie never touched his lamp or never tried too since maybe he knew he was unable to touch it. Then when Aladdin wished him free, he was able to pick his lamp up to feel happy that he was free).
Yes, also maybe as Jafar being a genie, if any genie tried to touch their lamp, probably their lamp would shoot laser beams, fire, etc. at them and kill them since their lamp has more power than them. I remember earlier in this film, once Abis Mal rubbed the lamp and Jafar got out, Jafar tried to escape from the lamp to kill Aladdin and the lamp stopped him where Jafar said "all the powers of the universe, I am bound by the rules of the genie which means I can't kill Aladdin."
@afriendofbean I did some reseach (the things you can do when your bored haha) if you watch the first movie, genie never touches his own lamp untill hes free. Also hes doesnt help aladdin get the lamp away from Jafar he just sits on the sideline. So it could be that Genies are not allowed to touch thier own lamps. How-ever during genies musical number he does float his own lamp. So it could be that your allowed to interact with your own lamp. Yet Jafar being a new genie may have not understood
@Socoolscienceshow That's true that Genie was not able to touch his own lamp until he was free where I remember seeing him picking up his lamp and looking at it feeling happy that he was free. Also, the reason Genie didn't help Aladdin getting the lamp away from Jafar was because, he told Aladdin that since Jafar is his new master that he's working for, he said that he is not able to help Aladdin. While Genie was still a prisoner of his lamp, the only lamp he was able to touch was Jafar's.
@afriendofbean I would say its a combo of your not allowed to touch your lamp cuz your the prisoner of it and jafar was a new genie and didnt understand the rules yet, after all he didnt know that he was bound to his own lamp :D then again this is the Aladdin Universe. if you ever watch "Wish Master" theres different set of rules that apply to that genie where he was allowed to kill people if they wished it so he could collect peoples souls and he roamed the land freely :)
@Socoolscienceshow Yes, I remember that Jafar didn't know anything about the rules of the genie once he wished to be a genie and then got sucked into his lamp. Then once Abis Mal rubbed his lamp and he got out, he tried to fly away where all of a sudden, the magic of his lamp pulled him back by the handcuffs where he said "it is the lamp, all the powers of the universe, I am bound by the rules of the genie, which means I can't kill Aladdin" where maybe he learned the three rules then.
@EuroMIX2 Yes, I guess if a genie tried touching his lamp, some magic would come out of the lamp and stop them where maybe if they tried touching their lamps, an electric shock would stop them and throw them back or something. (Their lamps probably have invisible magical eyes to watch them if they tried to touch their lamps).
I'm sure Aladdin probably wouldn't of died because, since Jafar is a genie and genie's can't kill anyone and Jafar was the one who used his genie magic to make that hole with the lava in it where his powers were not powerful enough to make that lava hot to kill Aladdin and his powers were not powerful enough to make the colliding land hard enough to crush Aladdin. Instead of crushing Aladdin, the power of the lamp while being destroyed probably would have given Aladdin a small hole to exit.
I wonder if they mean a genie can't kill anyone "directly" but can still cause someone's death "indirectly".

I think the "not being able to kill" rule is exclusive only to the Original genie.

@afriendofbean I think I would agree, he has no power over his lamp while he is trapped in it.

That's probably exactly it: Genie's aren't allowed to touch or effect their own lamps. Makes sense really.
