can't speak for american companys but over here in germany most companys will not equip the buses with diff locks because only very experienced drivers can handle a bus with two rear wheels spinning, what mostly results in sliding sideways. So they see it as a safety measure....better my drivers get stuck before the hill really starts than drifting sideways on the hill and crashing into parked cars.
There are very capable drivers out there, but they are rare...
@Chriscovery or they'll leave the diff engaged when the road turns into pavement and start taking sharp turns. A lotof guys who drive Prevost often forget to lift the tag axle for turns. Mostly they come from driving a lazy MCI and the new training is quickly forgotten.
@etherialcruiser never seen a coach with a locking axle. They could unload the tag axle, which would involve getting out of the coach (on these models) and going out back and doing it. that would help.
@amp3cx10000a7jp There weren't enough of such equipment (snow chains) because there was no need for this in previous years - the NYC's department of sanitation was usually good about keeping such roads clean from snow but that year they totally failed to to their job properly. All thanks to the "wonderful" USA's worker union organizations...

These buses don't have locking diff's I'm guessing? I thought they were like big rigs?

Surely the bus company could have a few bags of sand or ice melter on each bus? Cheaper than a tow.

Although it is heavy snow and a freeze, does this bus equip with studlesstire and shine?
Or why doesn't it equip with the tire chain?
Seemingly he is not a professional.
