Well that was verygood thought out and detailed explaination of HCM. Our family is part of the Stanford HCM family and like Lisa my family is considered a rare case since the disaese has not skipped a generation from my paternal grandmother. My father has it, my oldest sister and I have it and we just recently found out that my niece now has it. Unfortunately there are may in our family who have simply refused to get tested only because they don't want to know Of us that do have it ICD's 4 all.
i have a question.. i really football(soccer).i play football and i watch on tv. Players died of heart attacks. will it happen to me and how can i prevent it?
@StephenOgaldez i know what you mean i used to worry about that, thats usually undiagnosed conditions, make sure you breathe properly when you doing something strenuous on your heart
This past thursday September 3rd 09' I was diagnosed Positve for HCM 2 days after my 44th bday. My older sister was diagnosed about 1 year ago to this day and now has a Defibrillator - Pacemaker to improve her quality of life. It is amazing what the Defibrillator and Pacemaker does. We lost my sister 3 times while she was in the hospital and was given her life back. A year later you would never think she had a heart disease. Blessings to Doctor Ashley and his team...

Heart attacks?
Or some other type of heart defect or heart disease?
There's ways to detect, prevent, lower risk, and everything.
HCM affects about 1 in 500 people, and maybe 10% or 20% could die from it, and those people might not of known about it at all before that.

I do have HCM. This is an excellent addition to what my cardiologist explained to me.

If you have been diagnosed or know a family member with HCM, this is the most informative video, explaining what HCM is.
