  • None you knows what you are missing. I got this to see Muti bouncing around, with his hair flying, and we got to see him for about six seconds. He puts on a real show, and the filmer kept showing the orchestra.

Heck, we can HEAR that, but, you should see Muti, and didn't.

  • DEMOPAN DEMOPAN DEMO- PAN PAN PAN.

  • Karajan was better ,much better

  • No ! Karajan was a magnificent conductor, the best for Verdi's Requiem for instance. But he had not "die Wiener Stimmung". His conducting was to "german" , to serious and even heavy for Strauss music...

  • @jep11300 yes,Von Karajan was the best.....after Muti,of course.....

  • DEMOPAN DEMOPAN! PAN PAN PAN!

  • muti is great, but i hate the style of the wieners.. -.-

  • this should be the new rick rolled this would be Riccardo pwned r something lol

  • I thought it was the blue danube. Very similar indeed!

I like his hair anyway... very pictoresque...

  • I thought it was the blue danube. Very similar indeed!

    R+

  • How curious, the way Sig.Muti conducts it ! It is supposed to be a military march, but here it sounds not only cheerful but delicate, almost fragile, I'd say. Why not, after all:)

  • Exciting! Thanks!

  • In his surprising auto-biography "In punta di piedi" Mr. Muti remembers his childhood in Tuscany, and reveals a little secret...

"My surname always enticed me. Why MUTI (Mute), I asked myself... What is my destiny?

Then, one day I woke up with a start from a deep, afternoon siesta and a vivid dream... I will remain MUTO, but I will make others play (Suonare in Italian). And so it was. I am a conductor!"

  • Excelente director. No hay otro igual

  • love how he conducts the crowd!!

  • I am happy, to find finally this particular

New Year's concert on youtube. We

fortunately could buy simple places. It was such

a wonderful experience - indescribable! Riccardo Muti

gave this event a very special, very Italian touch.

After the Radetzky March he got long-standing ovations We all love him very much and are very happy when he come back to Vienna.

  • thanks you.i was searching it for years!!!!!

  • Radezky was Czech nobleman and best and most successful general in Austria. He deserves the music from Strauss

  • beautiful

  • Man, I wish I was there! Bravo Maestro Muti! Adorable! I like both how he conducted the audiences and ended the concert! Very "cavalliere", very Italian!

  • What orchestra?

  • @jogacoeur Wiener Philharmoniker of course

  • I want to hear it without the clapping...

    :/

  • @iVintagePunk13

The clapping is custom for this song. A better crowd would be nice

  • @iVintagePunk13 it is a most wonderful New Years tradition in Vienna -- the clapping is part of that tradition.. though you can find the Radetzky March in lots of Stauss compilaitons.. Cheers! @ms_mims :)

  • Incidentally, I never personally interviewed Strauss.....so I can't say WHAT he intended....If you have I congratulate you on a long life and a remarkable conversation with the great composer.

  • In my opinion the claping makes the song more lively. Ever attended a Pogo? - Get kicked - get punched - then you motherfucking "live" the Music!

P.S.: Never forget to close sometimes your eyes, also it can get painful, but a great mosh is still someting great

  • Well, Moldyoreo.....I'll ask you the same question I asked another clapping fan.......Have you seen the original score that Strauss wrote? I haven't...and I don't think you have either. I'd be astonished if Strauss wrote clapping into his creation. If you've seen this chart and If I'm wrong I'll gladly concede the point....but until then I'll continue to complain about the clapping. I do have recordings of the piece so I can hear it when I want....without clapping.

  • @SpeedyNeutrino43 Well if you own recordings, I wonder why are you complaining about.

Youtube is free but charges in clapping, ok?

  • Well...when I attend a concert I want to hear ALL the music, not a bunch of clods clapping along. Tradition be damned. I've had to look high and low to find this fine march WITHOUT the idiotic clapping.

  • It isn't a matter of tradition. It is the intention of Strauss himself.

  • Bravo! caro Maestro Muti

  • my band played this

  • It is not Radetzky March if there is no clapping, unless yit is your 3rd year of piano lessons.

  • true true true

  • It is not Radestzky March without the clapping? yeah right, the clapping must be part of the score then...it's just a custom..don't exaggerate

  • É o máximo o maestro regendo a platéia.

    Grande maestro

  • this guy is awesome... he really puts his soul into directing ...

  • ah allora scusate l'ignoranza

Ciao.

    Alessio

  • Ahhh Carlos Kleiber!!!!

Best version of the New Years Concert closing number.

  • Anyone know where this was played?

    Loved it btw! :-)

  • Vienna, Austria, Sala dorata del Musikverein.

    Every new year.

  • 2004 New Year's Concert, in Vienna.

  • In this piece, I love the way conductor leaves the orchestra and conducts the audience :)

  • Muti always does this if he conducts? the Radetzky march at the New Year's Concert.

  • Isn't it amazing? I think this is the best conducting the orchestra and the audience at Radetsky March...:-)))

  • Dirige Strauss in maniera strepitosa

  • Just wonderful - with a couple modest directions - and look at the outcome! Great, great, a great pleasure to witness something as awesome as this.

  • "Radziecki marzec" show us a reall russian nature..

  • Man, I wish I was like Riccardo Muti and had the looks of a guy in his thirties (he's 62 on the day this was filmed)

But I already look about the same age as he looks and I'm 19

  • I'm so happy that my mothhers side of the family died for Austrria

  • This was enjoyable, thank you for posting.

  • Sea un homenaje a Mutti.

  • Just enjoy this wonderful music and don't insult, please.

  • Lighten up, people. This isn't Tristan und Isolde -- it's a light, fun march. Let the people clap!

  • Kaiser Franz Josef forever!!!

  • Wondewrfull MAESTRO and wonderful march. One of the best!

  • I went to an orchestra concert once. They played 4 songs, this was the first and best. (I nearly fell asleep in a few of the other ones.)

  • 100% agreed, the clapping really spoils the chance to enjoy the performance, save it until the last part or maybe go to Endinburgh tattoo instead

  • it was written to be clapped along (read wikipedia) Strauss meant it to be "ruined"

  • Ruined? How many New Year's Concerts have you seen? The clapping it's a tradition. And conducting the audience too, by the way.

  • First of all I can hardly believe that Strauss himself meant this march to be "ruined".

Second I'd like to say that everybody is able to change/manipulate the articles on wikipedia which means not everything on wikipedia is true.

  • Radetsky March "The Best"

  • I've followed the New Years concert on TV ever since the 1970's.... The "Wiener Philharmoniker" was then Conducted by the late Willi Boskovsky.....Marvellous

  • ma che stile ed estro inconfondibilmenti italiani!!!!

  • I have always adored Riccardo, and the Radetzky March is the best march in the known universe. What's not to love?

  • I totally agree.

  • Hey smart guy, Riccardo Muti is one of the finest in the world...Let's see, Philadelphia Orchestra for 13 years...hmm...La Scala Philharmonic, consistent guest of Berlin and New York...but you are right hes terrible. Hey even he can have some fun.

  • Obviously the Viennese and their tradition at New Years is something that eludes you. It has and will always be the tradition for the Maestro to conduct the audience and with a maestro like Muti who could go wrong.

  • This is so off the top. Conducting the audience. Brilliant...Bravi...I'd put this on big-screen this New Years for ALL my friends! (If I had any)
