I dig and respect Harvey Fierstein, but I would urge him to take better care of himself. That voice is out of control!! Sounds like there's been too much friction on the back f his throat.
I remember my first pride in Seattle, WA. This beautiful person, some say drag queen, had a yearning look in his eyes. I shouted out, "You're beautiful". It was a cry from my heart to thank him and recognise his, and our significance. He came over, we hugged, and as we parted both our eyes were full of tears. For the sake of freedom and right we must get active in all fronts. I feel especially strong about this as I work with suicidal gay youth, as young as 12, who need us to act for them.

I love this little rant, it's so eloquent and makes perfect sense with totally justified anger. It makes me miss the ability to rate five stars, but it's getting favourites. Awesome.
If you are UNEDUCATED and unprepared to discuss current and RELEVANT issues I recomend you remove your posts and stand on your pillar of self justice and wait for the floods to raise.. It is happening RIGHT NOW.. we are losing OUR rights as citizens and with current legislation comes serious consequence.
Please people.. do we have no respect for freedom and expression, do we not realize what Mr Feirstein is trying to say? Not only about the GLTB community but also the american, european and canadain political comunities. Even the nay sayers MUST stand and listen.

I disagree , with Harvey 100%, Its not a gay Pride Parade . As for a hanger on,,you fat Bitch,,Pleas, I was the first men tto have same sex date at Grad Nite Disney World in 78, and I am in a civil union and have adopted my Daughter,,,Parades are easy, I did the hard stuff, Tired old Queen.

All people become "old" and with that comes wisdom and education and better communication - three things that you entirely missed in Fierstein's message. The parade is just an analogy for the bigger picture of unity - instead of taking a cue from that and building bridges, you build higher walls of hatred and misunderstanding.

Im referring to the parade members who DO oversexualise it, and make it about sex pride, not gay pride, but those like the church groups, firefighters etc are great to see in the parade, where its a representation etc, and I love seeing the banners and decorations etc, but its the specific sexual bits I dont like, where Ive seen naked people just walking along, or in fetish gear, or simulating sex etc, I dont see that as anything more than a private thing, not a gay pride thing.
Hundreds of heterosexuals just had a nude bicycle parade in Boulder Colorado. Sex and nudity are natural and nothing to be ashamed of, whether it's heterosexual or non-hetereosexual.
I'd be against that too. I dont think sexuality is something to be ashamed of, but it's a private thing, hence "private life", and I dont feel should be paraded around in front of the public, and children etc.
Drag queens are the bravest of the brave---always on the front lines, putting their lives on the line! I am a woman who has the deepest respect and is in awe of these people.
