  • You may be right. He's 14 now and has qualifed or his 3rd degree. They just won't award it to him unil he's 16....

  • I would like to spare him I'm a first degree he would probably beat me. ( I'm 13)

  • Cool, well good luck. Just tell him to keep with it, it seems like he's really devoted to Martial arts so if he stays in it he could get very far. =]

  • Also my Karate Teacher who is now a third was a second for 9 years, my other teacher was a third since 1994 and just this year got his fifth. But, ya, post a video of his third degree testing plz!

  • he has been taking for nine yrs, an average of 3 to 4 classes a wk plus a minimum of 2 classes assisting/wk plus demo team practice. 1st weapons were nunchukas @ age 5. Time between BB Degrees is at least one yr per degree level training for. That's a min. of 3 yrs from 2nd to 3rd degree. To do that he is required a min of 2 training classes & 2 assisting classes plus demo team per week. He recently added two 540's and a flashkick to his foms. 3rd Degree, maybe spring2010. Almost 13 then.

  • Congrats! Wow you added this video on my birthday. Wait so how Many years do they have to go to get each degree? I have been doing karate for 6 years and got my first Black in 2007. After four years of work. I'm 14. Also I'm not trying to be mean or anything but I think you have to be 16 or older to get your 3rd degree. That's what I've seen on the Internet. I've been doing Martial arts for 10 years. =]

  • Everyone lighten up. The actual testing was prior to the video. This is just some light demo ork during the ceremony and letting go of pressure. He can handle himself with anyone in his agegroup and most 2-3 yrs older. He's now 12 and starting to mature physically. The next couple of years is when his abilities will really begin to show. He's also an AllStar pitcher/catcher on his baseball league, (undefeated this yr), and excels in basketall, soccer & tackle football. Enjoy life guys......

  • the majority of marial arts is not physical, and isn't how well you can kick or twirl like i think someone else said, bu it's mostly mental. The kid spends most of his time backin away/running away from his opponent, I'd say he is still a long ways from a black belt. Also why the padding clothing? So sad, as a black belt he should have enough control and be able to take a little bit. He is fast, but his timing isnt very good. Over-all another mcdojo student, he's good, but no blackbelt

  • FYI, he hates the gear. However it's required for his age by the martial arts sanctioning organizations until age 18. No BB who is serious just takes the opponents attacks. You move around and keep him off balance. His style is defensive, taught by his instructor who is a major contendor in our state and a Masters degree at age 23. Canido has only had one hard loss in tournyament competition, trained for 8 1/2 yrs and will be 3rd degree BB by his 13th b'day. BTW, what have U accomplished?

  • WOW THIS IS BULL..... in another countrys a first degree black would make him looks like mash patatoes

  • What have YOU accomplished other than knocking those better than you. He just turned 12 and will have his 3rd degree BB in the next year. He's small in stature but the last time he sparred he went through 13 opponents undefeated -- many older and stronger than him. How many demos do YOU do before thousands off people in venues like baseball stadiums, etc? He does them quite regularly.

  • hes good but the only think he should watch for is when he runs away after his kick his head is right open, he should throw the kick and lean back. hes a good kicker too , im a martial artist myself and im 13. hes a high rank for his age but from what i see he earned it

  • Thanks, he was just under 10 for this testing. He was copying the style of his instructor who is a defensive fighter & highly ranked in maryland. He just turned 11 & has about 1 1/2 yrs more to his 3rd degree. His style has greatly improved. He recently went through 13 opponents his age & a little older -- undefeated...

  • black belt in what?

  • The discipline is call "Canido" which is based in Tai Kwon Do with some of the best parts of Hapkido and Muay Tai blended in. He just tied for 2nd place and took a 3rd in the Battle of Baltimore International tournament yesterday.

  • i wanna see him when he gets older... make him do plyometrics so he can jump really high and be a movie star, lol

  • dont know im 10 id do wado-ki am a brovn/black

  • He is too young to be black belt and no matter how hard he trained,he is still below the standard. Look at the video, he has no form,no defense and is running. Well, at least he can run. What had become of black belt?

  • This is a POINT sparring match where you get in for the score and get out before you get tagged. His opponent is a foot taller and several years older. He's got to keep moving away until he gets an opening. He's been training for 7 years now, how about you? He competes in about 6 major international tournaments every year and takes his share of 1st in his division. He has also, on more than one occasion, taken 1st place in the Grand Championships against 17 year olds in Weapons and Forms.

  • well,if this is the case, then I lost my respect to black belts.SORRY

  • Check his other videos. He doesn't have the strength due to his age but he does have the form and over 100 trophies to prove it. He's passed the same Black Belt tests the adult do. His boards just aren't as thick in the strength test. The major martial artists who have seen him in action respect what he can do at his age. You should try it. Good Luck

  • I know what you mean! There's no respect for this art anymore, as long as you can kick high and twirl around, they'll give you a black belt! A lot of people seem to have forgotten that one of the aspects of martial arts is experience, and a few years of kicking around to earn a seconde degree black belt is a joke.

That said, this kid is good at what he does but he should stay in the show-business side of things.

  • A 10 year old becoming a 2nd degree black belt? I'm sorry but that's just insane. A 10 year old has no buisness calling himself a "black belt" for two reasons. 1, because there is no way he's actually a black belt. And 2, a little kid like that will go around saying he's a black belt. So it's just asking for him to get beat up. My final statement is: Complete cheese.

  • Actually, you're wrong. He has trained very hard for 6 1/2 years an average of 3+ classes a week. He carries himself with confidence and doesn't look for trouble. He doesn't advertise his abilities but will step in when someone is being bullied. He holds his own fighting boys 5 yrs older. He's beaten 17 yr olds in grandchampion matches for weapons and forms on more than one occassion. He trains well with the adult black belts -- who have also learned to respect him.

  • Impossible. He couldn't stand against a kick.

  • I said that he trains and works out well with the adult BB. I didn't mean to imply he was as strong as an adult -- he is only 10 yrs old. However, in openhanded forms and weapons, he can do anything/everything most adult BB's can do. He's faster than many of them, too! I can't wait 'til he's a little older. He works hard to maintain a pretty firm little six pack.
