@Latinbeatdrums Easy - so long as the sound is fed directly from the line out rather than mic'd up. As I've said in my replies to comments many times before, these were only recorded using a ropey mic on a phone camera so you hear everything, warts and all.
Hey! Don't be too hard on yourself! You did a wonderful job with this - and I actually thought the internal working sounds of the Mellotron were kind of interesting, since I'm using M-Audio's version in software. You're so lucky you have a 400!! Don't spill a beer on it, or your coffee, nor anything else.....be careful!
I hadn't really thought of it like that before, but yes! Especially when you hold down a big chord for a few seconds and release the keys it does sound like the carriage return on an old typewriter. It's more pronounced on here than 'in real life', what with it being a crappy mic on a phone camera.
This particular model doesn't have built-in speakers (unfortunately!), I've just got it running through a small Behringer 15-watt keyboard amp. For a practice amp that's only used at home, I've managed to coax some reasonably good sounds out of it on the whole.
Nice demo. I like hearing the sound of the re-"springing" tapes, always been curious how that sounded. Well, they sound a bit frightening (will they hold out?) ;-)
Funny. Not very much volume when you recorded the Mellotron... The tape springs and the the sound of the keys are as loud as the music :-) But, the instrument seems to be in a good condition, no wobblers. Fine. The M 400 is such a wonderful instrument...
Absolutely - and I think the volume problem with this comes from a combination of a cheap amp and me trying to avoid the sound distorting on the camera phone that filmed it, but I ended up going a bit too far the other way instead! I shall, however, be giving the volume more welly on future videos :) .
This instrument is uncomparable!!! Thank you Tronfan for sharing! It ounds great!

I wonder how difficult it was for an engineer to record over the clunking sound of the tape stopping and starting?

M-Audio sells mellotron samples that sound just as good. :)

Is there an amplifier+loudspeaker built into the mellotron itself, or are you running it to an amp+cab?

Is there an audio input on the camera that you could use?
If there's a line out on the amp you should be able to run that into a line input on the camera.
