  • Give the drummer some...he is wicked...Peace.

  • This is just awesome...Peace.

  • Did not know he has passed away until I read it here! So sad to know that and there will never be another to take his place in his style of sax!

  • I have been a Grover Washington Jr. fan since the 80's and this video ex He has it all! Good sax, good looks, great music! And great charisma!

  • I saw Grover Washington, Jr. perform in Rochester NY years ago, he was awesome, will be greatly missed.

  • RIP Ralph MacDonald!!

  • RIP Grover, Eric, RIchard, Paul, and now Ralph Macdonald :( I learned so much from you!!!

  • Great

  • Grover pioneered the way for your top solo sax players of today. I remember when I performed with Grover live at the Jazz workshop in Boston many, many moons ago. At that time he mentioned he never performed with a guitarist but was willing to try it out.. The crowd loved it. He liked the idea so much he subsequently added a rhythm / lead guitar player to his band. I'm grateful glad to have performed with Grover for one full set. We all miss the late great Grover Washington Jr..

  • hes really workin up a sweat with that cowbell

  • I came!

  • Heard Ralph a few minutes ago rehearsing with his team still amazing!!!

  • ONE OF MY FAV DRUMMERS OF ALL TIME, STEVE GADD

  • this is one of the tightest live performances i have ever seen. and what need be said of the worlds greatest timekeeper...steve gadd. my gadd that was awesome!!!

  • Percussion team is on sync, something u don't see these days. I will give them a thumbs up for sure !

  • grover washington jr has taught me a lot, being with him at his concert, he gave me a lot of saxophone tips

  • Eddie Murphey? And for the 8 that disliked it...well your probably deaf or blind so never mind.

  • @RAWRDJBEAR How could anyone give this a thumbs down? This is perhaps my favorite Grover Washington performance. I am from Philly and very upset I never saw him live. He left us so suddenly. Just bought the CD 'to Grover with Love' by Jason Miles. Not a plug of any kind just a recommendation of a great CD of Grovers music. Mr Magic is haunting that I cant get out of my mind.

  • Steve Gadd's favorite drummers since my childhood to the exact precision and dynamic ... incredible! I love it:) God blesses a unique talent!

  • greeeeeeat jazz! When smooooth jazz started coming up strong! Awesome

  • Look at how happy our departed friend is in this video!

That's all I want to see -- Grover happy. That is all God wants him to feel.

(And who could blame him? He has Eric Gale scratching out the very theme of this song, the very statement that we all identify with this masterpiece! Not to say that Steve Gadd is any less of a MONOLITH on his drums. Not to say that Anthony Jackson isn't considered by most one of the best ever. Not to ignore the UNITY of this performance!)

  • Wow! Awesome vid! Grover Washington Jr. and his group.....putting it down....memories from back in the day.....Superb!!!

@marks6338 Thank you for the upload! 5*****!

  • I miss Grover so much. He has so much soul in his sound. Listen to "Live at the Bijou Cafe" album to hear him at the heights of his power.

  • 3:00 even he had to do that twice to make sure it was him

  • Anyone who disliked this video probably did so trying to press LIKE while dancing.

  • @funktuall You have the kind of mind that Grover liked! Think on, positive person, positive human.

  • @funktuall YOU KNOw IT!!!

  • that's music can listen to grover forever this was back in the early 70s and still sounds great that's what's up

  • Didnt even have to look at the comments. I knew someone was going to ask for more cowbell

  • -Good stuff!

  • I loved Grover, he turned me on to sax playing to where I tried to become one.

  • @kcred3 loved is past tense, i hope you mean you love grover as i do, because anyone who loves grover knows that these new cats they have on the radio and the ones even before them don't even come close to Grover's beauty on the sax, i will always listen to him more than anything else because his skill is forever timeless.

  • epic drum solo

  • Attention people I got Part 1 of Mister Magic already up check it out!!!!

  • I say give 'er a go....I liked it quite a bit!

  • What an awesome line-up of musicians

  • Hi, thanks for mailing me. This is Part 2. Part 1 is fairly short, it's where Grover and Eric Gale go solo. Part 1 features Steve doing the drum solo.

  • 2 Those complain about Part 1 of this missing from this clip can search thru Google Video, its still there trust me!

  • The drums in the beginning literally dropped my jaw. Can't get much funkier than that.

  • STEVE GADD!

  • His performance of Mr. Magic live at the Biju is probably the finest...the one which has a message from the doctor..Dr. Gibbs..it was on this site...pity it has been removed.

  • What a band!... Like the Rolls Royce of Rhythm sections with a great artist on top. Each one of these guys are icons on their instruments.

  • The man was a God

  • Thats Steve.

  • its dennis chambers

  • now THAT'S funny...LOL !!

  • lol

  • this guy is my new saxophone idol!

  • The best line up of best musicians ever.

  • Anthony Jackson is one of the greatest Bassist of all time! It seems like he took James Jamerson's style and made a whole innovative approach all his own... Supportive and one of a kind.

  • Yes, Jackson is quite amazing, you said it right.

  • he's a real control freak in the studio...not trying to rain down on your parade. but you'd have to meet him or play with him; people can be different in person....which is a real shame. But him being such a control freak makes good records, so if thats what you gotta do...

  • Who is a conrol freak?

  • Now this is classic material. RIP Grover.

  • These are my favorite types of drum solos. Maybe I'm showing my age (50), but I'd rather listen to this than an endless barrage of flurries & riffs between the hands & feet w/no musical form or direction.

  • Grover the true father of funky smooth jazz give to Him!

  • STEEEEVE!!! YEAHHH! 5*s

Great team play with Ralph there! What's the DVD title? Anyone?

  • grover washington jr. live in concert

  • Brilliant drums! I love this. Funkiest beat i've ever heard.

  • I have played this song with so many bands, that I vowed to never play it again! However, I shall listen to it forever. My idols are Carter CC Collins (one of the best ever), Armando Peraza, Mongo Santamaria, Francisco Aguabella, and Ralph Macdonald, just to name a few.

  • this makes me very happy. happy.

  • this makes me very happy, and Tiny makes me very happy too ! :)

  • Great with many jazz legends.

  • Great with many jazz legends.

  • Grover was simply s GENIUS! May he rest in peace and play for God!

  • i love sax

  • If you're a Grover fan get "Live at the Bijou" on CD,it's one of my favourite live recordings. Mister Magic really grooves on this CD. R.I.P. Grover. The music will never die.

  • Am off to go git Live at the Bijou?? tis over 30 yrs since I heard that super slab of vinyl heaven!!!

  • I knew Grover from Phila. Also I heard him play in fairmont Park solo playing to the trees solo ,WOW I also was to be auditioned as a guitar player for his band and ended up playing country music every where in the U.S and Canada

  • ABSOLUTELY TOP!!!!

Since now I did only know the version from the Studio Album and that of "Live At The Bijou". This Version is close to the older live version.

  • If you're Old enough to rebember the Bijou You might remember a Band called Cafe Ole/and a place named the main point.Or PHILY JOE JONES?

  • I dont why because I am not a drummer, but I love it when a great drummer uses traditional grip....there is some kind of different snap that comes about. Of course, being Steve Gadd helps.
