We all pay taxes here in Canada, a lot of them. It's depressing how little of each dollar we can actually put towards our baskets of goods. In addition to regressive sales tax, each year we get the opportunity to voluntarily and enthousiastically pay our income taxes. Why do our income tax returns not give us the option of opting out of services we go not want or dissagree with?

For instance, the fire department or the national defense are public good: my use of such a service does not really limit yours, and it will cost a lot of cash to limit the use of the defense to someone. But, we don't really want to give a free ride on the others side, and we want everyone "equal under the law" so ;)

I would want protection from fire and foreign invasion. I might opt out of invading foreign coutries-or in the case of welfare-I might want to support some initiatives that I thought had more impact ,or were more accountable than other services. I would also not want to use violence to steal from other citizens for things they dont agree with.

In the case of E.I, well that a form of scheme and, to put it simple: eater everyone pay or nobody pay&there is no cash for it. And if nobody pay it, well for one thing, Vancouver will have a really bad problem of transient on east-Hasting, because no unemployed want to live in the winter without a minimum of cash...

We have to sell americans water and oil (as much as they want, at a discount). Then they have the balls to sell it back to us at an inflated rate. Thieves.

We have to pay the natives because most of them are too lazy to work. They sit at home all day and fuck all day - and when the woman has a baby, we give her more money. They make just as money re-populating, as we do going to work. With est. pop of 45% in 2045, how will we pay them?

As bad as that sounds, and a bit racist, it is true. Most natives are lazy and have no ambition to try and find work. This is also because of high tax rates which discourage poor people to work because the government takes a percentage of it away. I think it is unfair that they get a lot of government funding help when they already have a lot of benefits in society like, lower university fees and such.

It really does sum up what paying taxes in Canada is like. Incredible that healthcare is somehow used to explain why taxes are so high, when in fact, we're paying more tax than ever before, less of it is going to healthcare, and the Conservatives add nice big fat deficits to put up our burden of national debt payments at a mere tune of $30 billion annually for a country of only 32 million people.

Are you referring to WW2? Because if you are, you are mistaken with your facts. UK entered the war after the German armies invaded Poland. Canada waited about 1 week AFTER the UK declared war before entering. The reason? We were still reeling from the casualties of WW1 and wanted to prove we were becoming more than a Dominion and instead a sovereign nation.

We did not enter the day britain got attacked, but we did stand by our allies in a just war.

Also, The United States and Britain were not allies at the outbreak of either World War I or II, and so had no obligation to Britain to declare war. They only became allies after Germany sunk the Lusitania (WWI) and after Germany declared war on the United States (WWII).
