LOVE this band! I used to see 'em all the time back then, they always put on a great show! John Ivan would SMOKE on his Hamer Sunburst guitar!!
I was hittin' on a cute girl at the bar at one of their gigs & it was John's girlfriend!! Hey, it's only rock & roll!! Wish "Showdown" was on Youtube!!
I saw these guys about a dozen times with John Ivan back in the late 70s and early 80s at well you name it Monopoly,Haymakers,Rocket North,Edgewater,Thirsty Whale,
etc. with some of the old Schwinn gang, The Slink, Suave, Stro. Every show they did about a half hour sound ckeck before they played but it was worth it. probably the best sounding bar band ever andJohn hadf a impressive guitar collection back then.
Off Broadway was the "A" band along with Jim Peterik's SURVIVOR at the Thirsty Whale in River Grove (1978). They always rocked the house. Cliffy has the greatest voice. I still have a pristine copy of 'On' (lp) and 'Quick Turns'. Anyone know what the boys in RISK are doing these days? Hey - Linda Boyle...if you're out there, "Hello from Deb Morgano!"
I, along with my musician friends of 30 years here in Northern Indiana, have worn out many copies of "ON" in vinyl and cassette. When it came out on CD, I was elated as were my friends:) A few of our bands play assorted tunes from that recording because they are timeless!
saw 'em at Mother's (Chicago) on halloween of I think '79 or 80. The P.A. guy there really made them "grind". One of the best sounding guitars I ever heard, especially in a small basement bar like Mothers. Rob Harding's Music Man amp really kicked tail.....wow
I saw them at College of DuPage in 1979. They rocked the house. And I saw Cliff's other band (USSA) open for Cheap Trick in 1983 or so at Chicagofest. USSA wasn't as good as Off Broadway, but they still rocked.
I saw them open for the Tubes in Oshkosh in 1981 (or so). The Tubes were told never to come back, CJ and crew rocked big time. Even printed up "OFF-WAY" wisconsin license plates and tossed them into the audience. They would command some serious money nowdays...
love these guys, my brother went to HS with CJ even..
OMG, I forgot how much I loved this song! I remeber my daddy telling me how the guitarist in the 70's used to take his guitar strap off on one side and swing it around, and it never did come off. He used to do sound for OB. :D
70s and still dig it. Thanks for the upload. Cliff-meant kindly, maybe a bit better if you lose some weight but keep the great attitude up. Loved it when you used to rock
with your mic on the stand too. Saw you at
Harlow's (79th & Cicero & Thirsty Whale-River Grove) way back when. Good luck guys!
Used to see these guys (the original band) at the Great Illinois Purchase (a rock bar in Rockford Ill.) in 1978-79, they were an awesome live band, Cliff Johnson (singer) would always jump down to the dance floor and dance with us and take pulls from our swampwaters....ahhh the late 70's in a very boring midwestern town!
YEAH BABY Pez Band & D'Thumbs w/ Pete Comita, Guitar, Gary Levin, Guitar & Tommy Alridge on drums ( yes the same Tommy alridge from Black Oak Arkanas), sorry don't remember the Bass Player, I'm bad

Yes they did. Their second album is called
'Quick Turns.' I have it on vinyl but I have not seen it as a cd yet. It is just as good as the first album.
