  • I got goosebumps. <3

  • I go to this school now.

  • So Beautiful.. :"D

  • We are doing this arrangement this year in my Jazz group, and I must say.... I'm sorry but this is kinda butchered. I can't even hear the men parts at all. Sorry. Just maybe they should bring out their part out more. Baritones are SO important in this song. I can't hear the low bass notes. Also, the breathes in this song make it a little choppy. Just trying to be helpful! Maybe the director should take the breathes out in the intro, and whip those boys into shape. :)

  • My only dislike is they sound too exposed, like its individuals not a choir. Sorry :/

  • Bzzzzzzzzzz.

  • if only there wasnt that buzzing in the back, i wouldve loved this

  • Would've been better if it were just girls.

  • @Ayeeeitsmimi Nahh, the guys are what give it depth. They complete the chords.

  • A special place on earth being led by a special choir and director in a special choral piece. I love and so very miss Valencia. It is a VERY special place!!

  • Sorry I meant for a reason haha

  • I won't say that this performance was bad, but it wasn't great either. Check out Folsom high's version it's much more tight on the notes and to more interesting as in where they take the song. They are number one for no reason haha

  • @leperloompas I like this version much more it's not like folsom high totally sucks but this version has more life in it. Folsom high's version is much too smooth and unconsiderable for this song.

  • Really, I have to say I've heard WAY worse. This is very, VERY nice. Almost note accurate. They really need to practice the "oh what you say" section a bit more - but it's almost there. The sop who is hitting the highest notes needs some breath control. Otherwise nice.

  • they almost sound exactly like the original in my opinion. The original doesn't have harmony on point throughout the whole song. they nailed it! I like the lack of too much light as well. well done!

  • This is fantastic. I am highly impressed with the awesome works or a HIGH SCHOOL A CAPPELLA ensemble! Great job!

  • I think y'all are crazy! Listen to the sensitivity and musicality that this choir sings with. They posses a unique and haunting blend that I really enjoyed. Their treatment of the text is gentle, not harsh like that of so many young ensembles and that's what really stood out to me. Their attention to dynamics isn't jaw-dropping, but it's certainly not bad. Pretty decent intonation as well. Brilliant performance!

  • The timbre of the voices is pretty good, but I think the melody needs to come out more, and maybe they should work on dynamics and unity. It's not very accurate to the original, but honestly, it's not BAD. It's hard to listen to a cover of such an amazing song. We tend to have extremely high expectations and wanting something that sounds very similar to the original. But of course the original is very difficult to recreate. But these guys seemed to be putting in effort, and for that I praise. :)

  • can someone send me the sheet music for this haha

  • can someone send me the sheet music for this i have been looking forever

  • I love this performance so much! You guys give me butterflies!!!!

  • if you want to see a great mens a capella group who ace this and hit the high notes perfect go to this: Add 9 "Hide and Seek" A Cappella

  • it doesnt seem to blend that well because the song that we're expecting to hear is one person singing with a modifier to make it sound like a choir, a perfect choir. Of course noone's perfect and therefore the perfect blend isnt present, but for a choir, especially highschool choir, this is great blend

  • Its blood and tears they were here first..

    But it sounds GREEEEEEAT:D

  • the individuals mics kinda kept it from sounding a little more blended. otherwise, good job

  • Loveeee.<3

  • Just for the record, they aren't supposed to blend in this song. If you listen listen to the original it doesn't blend. That is how the song actually is. Which is also the main reason its so hard to sing.

  • I'm impressed at how well they pulled this off. I think the soprano needs to come out more, though, because in places you totally lose the melody.

  • I don't think the sound system held the high notes well....most choirs need multidirectional hanging mics, nothing is hanging here. I agree it is a sparkling performance.

  • Very relaxing

  • They are missing a few of the first soprano parts and the bass is mildly disappointing. Granted that this is 6-11 part piece in the choral arrangement.

  • At least the pitches were pretty good, but it's definitely a high school choir. :P

  • Disagree completely that there's no dynamic, they don't blend, don't know how to sing softly. This is a superb arrangement and a sparkling performance. A difficult, idiosyncratic song by a highly original singer and composer, very nicely done here. Thanks for posting. I really enjoyed your version.

  • Very good for a high school group... they even held their pitch!

  • @018343 to a certain point.

  • I don't care if there was like one part that was odd, this song is amazing, and they did it really well. :)

  • oh my god!!!! W O N D E R F U L

  • It's 4-7 parts.

  • I liked it. There were some parts that didn't work too well but one has to consider that fact that this is a HIGH SCHOOL choir and that this is arguably the hardest song to sing in four part harmony.

  • What's that buzzing noise?

  • This is an excellent rendition of this--and a really impressive job by a high school choir on an inherently difficult song. I think all things considered this is really great.

  • Wher did you find the sheet music for this song in 4 parts

  • I was surprised there were negative comments here. xD I think they sound really, really good. A lot of people don't realise how difficult it is to sing in a choir, /especially/ acapella. I really, really like this version, personally. (:

  • one thing they could work on is their use of stressed syllables and dynamics. like finishing a phrase.

  • They have done an amazing job on this song! and for all the haters out there, if u know anything about the actual song then u will know that in it Imogen Heap did not intend for the song to have that perfect sounding consonance in it. if she wanted it without the dissonance then she would not have used a vocoder to split her voice into the different layers. for the students to perform this piece it must have take A LOT of practice to because they are prolly all singing different pitches.

  • Stop bashing on them, Gosh! They're only human.

  • that was das shit!

  • i think they were amazingg!! the harmonies were perfect. They were quiet and loud when they needed to be!! this is really good. the mics needed to probably be adjusted to the sound level of each person haha.

  • Listen to the original version of this song. The point isn't to blend. This is really how the song goes.

  • Great, i LOVE the dissonance! the song isnt about blend-its about the dissonant sound!

  • @cadetolbertsmith it's possible to blend and have dissonance. it takes a great musician to do both simultaneously.

  • Glottle Plox.

  • um, note cut-offs?

  • i hate the douche at the end thats like "YEAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"

    completely ruins the mood. :/

  • @csmorrison hahaha right

  • @csmorrison hahaha sounds funny

  • @csmorrison hahaha sounds funny

  • what are you people talking about "no dynamics"?! the original is vocoded, so there is a flat balance of voicing throughout. while this choir does a good job of keeping this flatline of sound, they also have some beautiful rising and falling, intensity and volume: starting clear and mf at the start, moving to a strong forte, and then slipping off queitly at the end. it's not perfect, but it's a damn good shot at the song. haters....so negative.

  • @earthtoryan I agree! It's not perfect, what song is? I love the way the slip off quietly.

  • I liked them a lot actually. screw those people who said they don't blend well. they blend fine. they're not perfect, but cut them some slack, they're a high school choir. my high school choir did this too. check it out on my channel. let me know what you think.

  • really quite good for high school. those beautiful dissonant chords come out nice and clear for the most part! i think the audio is just terrible on this recording.

  • B E A U T I FU L !

  • thats beautiful

  • It sounds pretty good to me .... not expert on choruses and vocal harmonies ... but most of the time they're on the right pitch ...and in general it was well executed ...

  • a lot of people posted bad things about the blanding of this song, but i think thats how it's supposed to be performed... i mean listed to the acctual song, it sounds a little disgruntled. lol excellent job :o)

  • All musical theory aside, if you want a note perfect version there are many on this site, LIVE PERFORMANCES HAVE A FEW MISTAKES, should we cancel Glastonbury and Oxegen so?

  • The bass has a very very veryyyy nice, smooth tone. I like :)

  • Beautiful.

  • Watch LMH Campus Choir sing this I was on choir tour in kitchener ontario last year and laancaster mennonite sang this they had amazing blending and good range they sounded great... and soo did all the other mennonite highschools from across the U.S. and Canada that were there

  • Wow. This is so good

  • they did so amazing

  • for high school this is great!

  • weak

  • Loved finding this. Really feels like everyone knows the tone and timing of this song, very tight:)

  • I think they are FABULOUS!!!

  • i've being watching loads of choirs doing this song and actualy i think think this is the best :/ don't see what the problem is, the harmony's sound great

  • really really good choir, terrible arrangement. not because it's dissonant. because it's just a bad arrangement.

  • You know, I think the choir did a great job! Now, I can say that, and be honest with things that could have been better.

A lot of people don't realize that criticism that people put on here is (usually) honest things that can be fixed. That is one of the only ways to make a choir better. Compliment them, then be honest with how things are. Please, don't be upset by my comments.

A choir is hard to blend with mics, period. Try it without. Also bring out the melody a bit more. *more but no room*

  • great performance.

you could take out the buzz on the audio by using voxengo redunoise and noiseprinting that first break of silence thats perfect.

  • i have a version for brass on soundcloud btw.

  • geez people! they sound great! stop flipping out over the tiniest details! ur not really benefiting anybody if u keep on searching for every little fault! do u think they can go back and change what they sang? they sound great to me!

    just saying...

  • True about the tenors. And the ladies could've blended more well. But otherwise really good(:

  • Little iffy on that high B (is it?) But otherwise good. Hell of a hard song.

  • Good performance, but they really need to learn breath control. Probably the fault of the director more than anyone else. He/she should've stressed the importance of staggered breathing and holding out longer. The tenors need to be stronger, especially in the "mmm, what ya say" portion because they are carrying the melody and the girls are overpowering them.

  • I'm curious why there are no dynamic changes whatsoever in this. It's still beautiful chords, but every other cover of this song has that. The sound is great IMO but seriously is is that hard to change your volume? Good bass vocalists though.

  • @5ilver42 but, there are dynamic changes. There just kind of subtle

  • no blending at all, no use of dynamics, and nobody is together. plus they dont know how to sing quietly. this is one of the hardest songs in the world to perform well

  • @yourcall1009 there not really meant to be together.... the original song has a sort of wash chord effect

  • @yourcall1009 Nah, I did this at a music camp with only a group of 11, it took us 4 days to memorize and 2 more to finish phrase shape and the rest was just practicing in darkness fo blend practice. Unfortunately, the camp claims copyright over performances :P. Long Lake Camp For the Arts in NY.

  • @yourcall1009 for a high school, you got to give it to them, a lot of high schools can't get vocals this tight

  • @yourcall1009 wow.....and where is your constructive criticism?

  • @yourcall1009

    Cause your video is amazing!

    wait... you dont have one....

  • 2:47 - 2:54 ... everyone does that part wrong :/ great performance nonetheless :)

  • 103 people missed the like button.

  • they don't blend too well =(

  • @emilylouize without an instructor and them being far apart from each other. I think they do.

  • i think it is one of the best...like like :)

  • geeze, for a h.s. choir...wow...you guys really really did a great great job...i mean GREAT. i am a choral conductor and will get in touch with kerry marsh about the arrangement. this recording has a buzz in it. it's too bad, but your performance came through and you guys did a fantastic job. really.

  • awesome performance!! although the ladies could've blended more at parts. and i can barely hear the tenors. the bass turns me on.

  • I think this choir sounds good. great job. sounds more harmonic

  • I think this choir sounds good. great job

  • ruined by the feedback...

  • The balance is a tad off. I would have liked 2 more basses. Why did you take the key down a 3rd (or 4th)? Still life.... could use just a touch less emphasis on the dissonant suspension. My director's take on this song was that some of it is a bit of a skipping record or a place where it got scratched. You guys did otherwise do a phenominal job. The coluratura required for the high D is hard to find, but if the sopranos are that screamy, pull all out but one. 8/10

  • @Icyveins906 They sang it in the original key...

  • @Icyveins906 Whatever man nobody cares. They're highschoolers not professionals they sounded perfect.

  • LOVE

  • This is by far the best/most accurate A Capella performance that I have found of this song. Good Job guys

  • I'm put into Choir because I have no choice, god this is going to SUCK!!

  • wow(: great harmony

  • LIKE a million times. This is amazing. Especially at the high school level.

  • best one out there i think

  • Shout out to Base and Baretone!!! Killed it!!! Love it!!!

  • this was awesome but i heard some tuning issues :)

  • great tone. i feel the blend can be a better and more from the baritones. tenors. other than that very greatly done. and the end has slight pitch but thats me being picky

  • the "ooo whatcha say on 3:20" is really heart breaking and awesome and i love this rendition of it

  • Comment removed

  • one of the best versions i've heardd. Good job for a high school choirr. I'm in my high school choir as well :]

  • This is an awesome rendition, I just think it's funny how Jason Darulo has already caused the damage. When they start the "Whatcha say", they all start swaying and moving. The pop influence has infused even the purest of choirs!

  • @Gydelicious this was before the jason derulo 'song' though

  • @Gydelicious This was uploaded in 2007. The Jason Derulo crap was released in 2009.

  • It's pretty good for a high school choir :). My only issue was with the breath that the Soprano took with the highest pitch... and that she took breaths at the end with "Hide and seek" ugh because that's my favorite part... it adds so much feeling to the song and when it got there it was a disappointment but good arrangement.

  • especially the ending is incredible!! perfect..

  • like it! :D

  • The only part I really disliked was the "Blood and Tears". She hit the note eventually, but it hurt me. But still what an amazing piece, and amazing performance! :D

  • @Sareth740 Oh and the beginning was a little weak and not very clear and concise. But really amazing performance.

  • this is my favorite arrangement of this. you all did amazing

  • i always listen tho their version its nicee

  • so far out of all the groups that have sung this that I have watched on you tube... this is the best. not saying that thy are awesome... but they are not bad in anyway.

  • For a high school ensemble I think they did a great job. A few balance issues where the melody got lost a bit, a few intonation issues stood out to me in the bass, but really this is excellent for a group at this age level!

  • Excellent blend and sound! You sound better than a great deal of university level groups I've heard try to perform this chart. Great job!

  • That was absolutley incredible

  • Absolutely excellent for a high school choir!

  • amazing!.

  • i love this song...did you use any kind of autotune or anything to get the synth sound?

  • really good, the blend is amazing for a high school group where everyone has their own mics. That is very difficult to do!

  • Pretty good, especially for a high school choir.

  • Great performance! You guys kept things pretty in tune considering all the tone clusters and dissonances. Great job!

  • wow. i love this song and the performance was great!

  • I think this is absolutely incredible. I really love it.

  • my high school's choir did this song too. they're very different. I don't think one or the other is necessarily better. check it out on my profile...

  • who ever is singing bass sounds awesome. [: and i heard a little bit of crescendos and decrescendos. i really wish i could sing with a group.

  • What the hell is that BUZZ??? Seriously!!! Great song and version but that BUZZ!!! Horrible!

  • who are ever sang the really high note messed up

  • I got to hear these guys 'live' this past weekend at Carnegie Hall - absolutely incredible! What a gift that evening was.... You guys are fantastic... very tight and so musical. Bravo.

  • Why are the chords different? I hate when composers try to get rid of the dissonant clashing- that's what makes the song so complex and deep!

  • @UncleFizzmo it is dissonant. there are tons of major and minor second intervals and other stuff. duh!

  • @gebo513

I've sang this song in choirs before. Twice, in fact. I'm saying that they are either very, very out of tune, of they have a strange version of the song that siplifies the chords to make it "easier" (sound horrible)

  • @UncleFizzmo Really? I can hear where the music may have been simplified, but after listening to a bunch of these, I think this may be the best one. If you don't like the arrangement, you can say it sounds terrible, but if you can't find a better example you're just crapping in the ice cream.

The song lends itself well to A Capella, and it's pretty popular here. Do you have the guts to put your choir's performance out and hear how many people like it? I'd love to hear, see how you stand up!

  • This is simply stunning. I always go back to watch this video. There are so many other talented choir versions of this song, but there's something about this one.. Its gorgeous.

  • Wow... that was really good. i may have my own preferences, but this will do too =) fantastic job!

  • Very good for High School

  • very well practiced, the synchronization is unbelievable.

  • Very, very nicely done. Biggest problem for me was utter lack of crescendo and decrescendo; the song simply got louder the longer it went on, pretty much...

  • Astonishing. Had I been in the audience, this would have brought tears to my eyes.

  • I think that this was an incredible performance for a high school choir. They took on a very difficult song with many jazz chords with a lot of dissonance. The average singer struggles to carry these different cords in tune, but for the most part they did it. This is a pretty large group to be singing this song which can also create intonation problems, but except for a few occasions, this group listened well to each other. Great job!

  • hahah. everyone's a critic. it was very well done for such a tough song

  • This was ok... some girls voices stuck out when it was suppose to be sound group sound... Worst part of it for me was the "mmm what chu say.." was way off key! But this a very hard song.. so i give you an A for effort.

  • Oh man, the dissonances are amazing Valencia High! Great high school rendition for such a song!!!

  • definitely a good arrangement, it was just pitchy, especially at the beginning.

  • For the people who think "the harmonies suck," if you think that because of all the dissonances, they're supposed to be there. The original song was done with one voice singing into a machine to create that affect.

And my a cappella choir is learing this song for solo/ensemble this year with this arrangement. I give this choir a LOT of credit for learning this, and yes, while there are some things that probably could have been better, they did it very well. This song is exceedingly difficult!

  • @barlowgirl14 Except that they're not 'dissonances' they're suspensions which resolve. They aren't supposed to sound dissonant.

  • Melody was nice, could've been stronger but it was wonderful. and whomever the 1st sprno was is really good. :]

The whatcha say part could have been way better.

  • Hey this was great! However, if you type in "Hide and seek grandview" the first option is an even better version!! :)

  • -.- needs work

  • The arrangement is not bad. The problem is that the Melody needs to be a little stronger. That is what makes the harmony sound bad. The harmony builds around the melody, it is not it's own. Also, you need to form your vowels a little better. The most noticeable is the melody not sticking out like it should. And your staccato and legato is a little off. But it is good. Just keep those things in mind and it will be perfect. I does not "suck". Thumbs up guys. This is a difficult song.

  • The arranger was Kerry Marsh, and he does not "suck" by any means. Look him up sometime, he's a seriously incredible arranger. The sheet music was a direct transcription, dead-on perfect. Your ear is hearing problems with pitch, balance between sections, and blend, and you dislike their INTERPRETATION of the material. It has nothing to do with the arrangement.

  • Hmm, I honestly apologize because now I'm in concert choir and it is really easy to stand still. :) But I still thought it was good. Just thought I'd tell you.

  • @Seraphinax3 can u stand still for 5 minutes singing in front of a large crowd like that?

  • @Seraphinax3 :

Sorry to be rude, but that was a tad insensitive.. Look, they're a highschool choir.. Honestly I thought it was good..

Congrats, Valencia High School Choir, you did amazingly well :)

  • @IAmBeccaHearMeRawr...totally agree...i love this...probably one of my faves...
