  • Awesome work here!!! Thumbs up!!! Excellent my friend, thank you..

  • It's a great song, it really has a story in it. Very touching

  • my father was waiting his turn when he got out of college. but dont worry his ass hole nbrother lied and called the draft board to save his job and sacrificed his own BROTHER war is a sickness i want no part of.! written by a son aof na vietnam war hero in my eyes, 2 purple hearts and a bronze star. now he rests in eau claire mighigan still waiting for the V A check?

  • this is a good song, im joining the marine corps soon as i graduate highschool

  • Thank you for this! I was 25th Inf. It seems like we are the only ones who still care. I will never forget!

  • Dear Maysey1, thank you for for this beautiful and succinct ballad about what is was like to have been a soldier in the Vietnam War. I had a cousin (my favorite), who was drafted and he never was the same when he came home. This coming May, 2012, my eldest son who will be 20 by then, is leaving for boot camp in OK. Solely his decision, he is a EMT and will further his training as a medic; I am both both proud and scared to death. Anyway, a great song and I will check out the rest of work.

  • thank you for sharing this comment and taking the time. I'm sincerely wishing you and your loved ones well in the days and years to follow. Mark

  • excellent... thank you.....

  • love the song, who cares if its anti-war or not, in the end its a matter of opinion. funny how songs can calm people. will deffinately be back to listen to this!

  • The point is not whether this is anti-war or not. As an amateur military historian who never made it into the military this seems to be a pretty accurate picture of what combat can do to a person. I imagine that most career soldiers would tell you that even when war might be needed the toll is terrible. That is why we do not need to enter into it lightly and we need to support the vets whether we agree with the war or not. Thanks for a good song.

  • thank you for the intelligent comment and taking the time to watch and listen.

  • pretty decent song, not into the anti war shit though, but i get the message

  • Wonderfull song and so nice pictures from 60th ! This was one of my great time!!!

    Greetings, Roli

  • Am I the only one who is not anti-war who thinks this song is damn good?

  • nope! there's others merely appreciated from a songwriters standpoint of just sharing some stories of the past, it's been an interesting blog though here though, I could almost write a little book and call it "This is My Rifle", maybe include a few other stories from those who survived it all, the veterans hospital are still full of them. thanks for stopping by and sharing your comment here, I sure appreciate it.

  • Reading some of the words here;I think the point of this song is being completely missed and what war DOES;how it affects everyone. How a person can not be anti war and like this shows the mentality of how people just cant see how dirty war is.In the Vietnam War the vets were treated like shit by the govt.and the general public and they were all so young! This song is about taking away something you will never get back, what one sees on the front we can only imagine. Its awful and this senseless

  • if you were truely democratic then you would belive in freedom of speech, why tell me to watch my mouth?? second how do you {and any one else the comment negetively on vids} know if i wasnt a medic going there and saving lives of the people who lived there. hey mabey i dint kill any one{ever think of that, no why you people who are against the war dont care you put soldiers down and dont care about facts} third i didnt start the war and i didnt pull out of the war.

  • i was a soldier and did my job, on a second note about that. campain against evil??? what makes you think thats the reason i singed up or did my job. how about basic rights of humanity. could that be the reason i signed up and did my job{ after seeing 8 kids get blown up} and it was over a family dispute. so in reply to your thinking we should let kids die for an arguement just as long as its not yours hey. think thats why i did my job to protect people, if that did mean taking a life.

  • then so be it {i hate people like you cause you talk like you know what sgoing on over there but dont have a clue} remember soldiers dont start the wars they fight and some dont have an option but to fight them{such as vietnam} why spit on them and such. i didnt lead the army i was in nore my country, i couldnt make them stop pulling out could i?? me and some guys belive we should be there until the job is done.

  • God have mercy on my enemies, because i sure won't.-Gen.george S. patton.

  • damn good song

  • nice song thanks, brings back mems of iraq/afgan.

  • @burdikenknight Another failed campain which messed things worse than before. Are proud of being world's most famous troublemaker?

  • @TAGMATAGMATON hey idiot {i hate to admit it but i read your youttube page} it seems your an idiot with an opionion about any thing what got bored with playing xbox or some thing?? second im an aussie third im pround of the inoccient lives i saved.

  • @burdikenknight Aussie or not who cares? Look at the mess you left down there. So, you may have saved a few lives but participating the campain "against evil" makes you a criminal record. And yes, I have an opinion about almost anything, a wishfull attidude for a consious and democratic citizen, don't you think? After all my kind doesn't experience a learning but a remembering process through life. Btw I was beeing polite avoiding personal remarks and insaults. So, watch your mouth.

  • @TAGMATAGMATON oh and not calling names come on you called me the worlds trouble maker{unlees i mistook that.} oh and you sound religios{ not that there is anything wrong about that} when you say i have commited crimes so ill tell you something very easy to understand, my soul and body are mine if i go to hell for what i have done then so be it, but i go happy in the fact i have done no wrong angainst people over there i never killed any one who did not deserve it, and only protected the inocent

  • @burdikenknight You know what your problem is? Deep inside you know that this war was unfair and unjust but due to your involvement to it it is hard to admit it.But the worst thing of all is that, replacing god, you think you can tell who deserves to die or not, who is innocent and who is to blame. WHAT ARE YOU?

  • I think this is beautiful.

  • love it mate, as an australian I go with you Yank buggers because you boys can fight. God Bless

  • This song is just too true .... I hope my child's never have to go to war ... I know its impossible.

  • Thank you for this song, and thank you for your service, bro.

  • A old song. Still as powerful and strong as the day you sang it the first time. Thank you for the video.

  • great song!

  • Great song, favourited and liked!

  • love this. i done favorited it . nice job there Mark :D

  • No more Weed for you !

  • I happen to think it's a good thing for many, myself included.

  • @Akeatingphotography The weed is back, medical liscense you know.

  • Beautiful song, man. You should sign a record contract!

  • Omg this song is beautiful! You're singing awesome, i'm really really impressed by your talent and emotions you put in that song. I just hope more people will find out how great artist you are.

I promise that when I won't be just completely poor toot first thing I'm gonna do is getting your whole album. I'd be proud to own one.

Regards and best wishes for You!

  • moving song makes you remember bake then

  • this sucks..

  • thanks for sharing your comment.

  • There have been many songs written about war and the effects of war . This, imho, is one of the better ones. I found it very moving. Well done !

  • thank you for stopping by and sharing your words here, they're appreciated.

  • que bonita

  • thank you!

  • Whoever said the pen is mightier than the sword obviously never encountered automatic weapons...

  • I suppose you have a point, but what is it?

  • @Maysey1 Exactly what i said...

  • meaning you prefer automatic weapons over peaceful dialogue or the use of a pen? come on you can share more than that!!!

  • @Maysey1 Indeed that is what i mean, when people say the pen is mightier than the sword, they mean words can be more powerfull then military force, and when i said they obviusly never encountered automatic weapons i meant that now, whoever has the gun is going to win,and the fact that automatic weapons have changed the way people think...

  • @Maysey1 Gotta love it when people think the only solution is to kill others.

  • @DragonEmporerTriXteR Killing assholes is a definite end to the problems the asshole create. I spent two years in Nam and quit counting how many people I killed. But I know that in from 1975 to 1978 3 million people were murdered because we left. The US never lost a single battle. But fucking asshole liberals want to you fight under their restrictions. Winning was not part of their plan. 58,000 Americans. 2 million VC and 3 million S Vietnamese all died because of assholes like you.

  • @Kelebrinlith From what I undestand American never needed to enter into Vietnam so those millions of dead folks are dead cause some "assholes" had to start a war that was unesseccary. I do thank you for your service and your sacrifice but I would suggest getting treatment for your PTSD sir, it is never to late to ask for help.

  • @DukeOfTennessee117 If the pen is mightier then the sword then why do actions speak louder then words ?

  • @DukeOfTennessee117 amen to that!!!!

  • @DukeOfTennessee117 But what inspires people to use automatic weapons? A person with a pen or a microphone

  • @DukeOfTennessee117 well when the Secretary of defense sing's off the orders of dropping a MOAB your automatic weapons don't count for shit!

  • @marlborormanforever When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns...

  • @DukeOfTennessee117 if thats the case, guess a helluva lot of will be outlaws cause we aint givin up our guns 'less we're dead

  • @DukeOfTennessee117 outlawed tunes on outlawed pipe was once the calling

and who won ? make your laws but you better back your ass up with more there words

  • it took a few pens and pencils and cash for the sword to evolve to that point...

  • @Maysey1 Non the less....

  • thanks for sharing that, I'm sure some folks will check it out.

  • Beautiful and sad. What a waste. We must read All weel in the Western Front sometimes ... Erich Maria Remarque.

  • God bless our men and women at arms

  • Sadly we are “Humans” a dual element of the universe, war and peace are one and always will be present no matter what utopia we try to look for… sad… :(

  • War is inevitable. Only the naive think that the school yard bully will leave you alone. At some point, you have to stand and fight. I remember a friend who stood up to a bully when I was in elementary school. He kicked the bully's ass. He became our hero. And the bully--we gathered courage from our hero and the bully? he became a whimpering coward. Please do not belittle the men who fought in the war in Vietnam.

  • I think your comparison here really doesn't quite fit, and I certainly believe one should stand up to a bully, especially when the persist. However, two boys fighting with their fist one one one is completely different then wars, where most of the time you don't know who your truly bully's are, is it just two country's that can't get along, a border dispute or is it governments and big money pushing the buttons, or some religion. Possibly these country's need to just evolve in time. cont....

  • The sad thing is when big bombs get dropped many many innocent life's are lost or changed forever, even for the soldiers dropping them. In Iraq there was well over a million innocent people who lost their life and a million more or so displaced. Perhaps Iraq could have been prevented, perhaps Vietnam could have been prevented, perhaps we didn't have to drop the big bombs on Japan, maybe we should all work a little harder at peace, find real solutions to our petty disputes.

  • @Maysey1 I agree with you. Reading All Quiet On THe Western Front realy taught me that...

  • @Maysey1 well maybe your right about nam.(i dissagree) but the damned iraqis killed innocent people here so ther deserve every single person that they have to lay in the ground. my cousin died the day they hit the towers and ill never forgive them untill they all feel her pain.

  • well, I suppose you may be right, maybe we all just need to continue to fight evil with evil and that will eventually make things better for everyone. to be honest, I really don't know anymore what is the right response to the inequities of mankind, perhaps it will get better by your suggested methods, I sincerely hope so.

  • @alexander49010 Saddam killed over 3 million of his own people and it seems no one has a problem with that. Try thinking about that for a minute. I was over there in 91 and we should have been allowed to have finished the job then.

  • @TheJer1963 : It's just another war that our government stuck their nose into with no intentions to win.

  • it's governments that start all the wars and in the end no one really wins, especially those closely affected by it. thanks for stopping by and sharing your comment.

  • yeah! just so eventually some other corrupt individual will take over and the world and their people will just have another repeat of the same ole same ole, I think we're better off taking care of our own gardens instead of worrying about others, look what 10 years of wars in different countries have done to ours. we figured it out at one point in our country's evolution, these 3rd world countries need to do the same.

  • @Sealight007 War is inevitable because people believe it to be so. Unfortunately we are a primative species with not so primative "toys" and there are greedy people who lust for power out there. War may in fact be inevitable in this stage of our evolution but damn it, if our government is going to send us off to fight, die, be maimed physically and mentally and do the same to other humans they had better have a damn good reason for it and we deserve to know that reason. Read "War is a Racket".

  • we need to send politicians to these wars they wage and send their daughters and sons as well, maybe they'll think a little harder before sending the rest of the nation off into battles. I totally agree, the rich get richer and the poor gets poorer and the poor goes off to war. what a pathetic situation for all of humanity.

  • Comment removed

  • @Sealight007 lol how come every time i read a comment there is this strong bully fighter, who wins and triumphs in the face of defeat. hahah where are they now and how come non of them are saving us. lol shut up wth the bullshit bully stories, no one believes them. well no one whose actually encountered a bully believes that shit. i was bullied, you fight back they keep comin, in real life that is anyway. boy i wish the bullies in my school were pussies like in your school.

  • @thegreenbastard42011

Im sorry to say but in first class of highschool I was bullied as well and it stopped when I fought with them, they never bullied me again, so please take your own bullshit somewhere else, sometimes it's indeed necessery to fight. Now that's how it is in real life.

  • @Sealight007 Too bad that's not what would happen now a days. That kid who beat the bully would be punished more than the bully, and the bully would go right back to bullying. The teachers say we should get help from an adult. I personally think an ass whipping would work better.

  • He'd just turned 19. He was due to ship out to come back home at 1300 hours that day. His unit was attacked at 0130. His body was recovered at 0300 hours. I was 15 & pregnant. Our child growing inside. When the news came in I was waiting tables. His body was returned & he was laid in the ground. I slept by his grave that night. Our son was born a few weeks later. Never to know his Father. He was 19 & I was 15. My soul turned old that day. I wait for the day I join him, & we have our homecoming.

  • My sincerest condolences for your loss, this was very hard to read. I truly hope you and your son managed to find some peace in all of this and maybe our losses one day will make a difference for those yet to follow. Mark

  • @jnv53

Matthew chapter 10 verse 29 says,

"Not even a sparrow, worth only half a penny, can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it."....

In my country it is dedicate to the fallen , but now disbanded parabats. It is small comfort, but it is fitting.

  • Viet Nam was about the rich getting richer at the cost of the little people's lives.

Wars should be fought by those that start them. If some government wants to go to war, let them fight it. The "little people" have no cause to fight a war other than to over throw a government that wants them to die so they can get rich.

  • Comments like this makes this video of mine even more special, short, sweet and right to the truth. I'm grateful to meet people like you who still think and sort things out for yourselves. Much of humanity is buried in false prophecies and unguided truth, so much they fail to see beyond the world of lies and most likely most of them never will. I appreciate you stopping by and sharing your honest words and wishing you much peace. Mark

  • @Marblemania that may be but why punish the men and women that fought over there. I dont think 1 of them gained anything from fighting over there. You should be blaming the ones that started that in the first place. I am pretty sure it's not the guy next that lives beside you!

  • nam was a terrible was for america and southernveitnam but we fought proud and true and did what we could and we got out before more lives were lost and our soldiers still fight with their rifles by their sides and my heart goes out to them

  • This is why we quit vietnam. We didn't loose it. We quit because hippies like you didn't like it and the people we were helping there were slaughtered. So fuck off

  • what do you know about Vietnam lad? You were not even a twinkle in your parents eyes when all this was going on. I believe you've been terribly brainwashed and very uneducated - you need to study your history a little more, the real history, don't just be a puppet in life, learn to think for yourself and make this world a better place, if not for you, perhaps your loved ones.

  • @nimaxx38 could'nt agree more my friend

  • @10mannyman why what have we done to you?

  • @10mannyman

You do realize it's a man with a gun who made sure you could say that without gong to a gulag, or were shipped off to a concentration camp......

  • God bless all on both sides, as long as we all dont love killing then there is hope for all of us.

  • At least nobody dies here just debating issues, it's a step in the right direction! I welcome any and all comments here and appreciate the on-going debates about war. Maysey1

  • @Maysey1 i agreee i stared inthe abyss asa peace keeper and the abyss looked back at me peace

  • @yash55281 never know whether going to war in Afghanistan and Iraq was a good thing or not, because it happened, and there was much support in going. Now, a little over half turns against it. War hurts, but rather that my enemies pay on their own land, rather than I fight day by day for my own. In simple terms, we'll never ever know the good, because we are what we created, whether American or British, or even Russian. We destroy ourselves, for the good of ourselves.

  • @yash55281 than many other nations. If it is peace and human rights why Iraq rather than SA. Because Saddam was a man of religious segregation of Islamic cultures, the Sunni and Shiites. And Osama had already been the U.S.'s enemy, the signs were evident, but the rights and abilities for investigation were strictly limited, due to pre-9/11 laws. Hence the Patriot Act. If it were ever a good time to go in and do some good, it was when Osama attacked through his suicidal fanatics. In the end we'll

  • @yash55281 It is the aftermath of war that makes war worth it or not. After World War 2, Germany was split, controlled by the Capitalist allies, it prospered, controlled by soviets, they were kept in poverty. My senior physics teacher lived in Romania, during the Cold War, nothing was fair, and all went to the government. Liberation comes after warfare, not during it. Saudi Arabia was not a threat to any interests, as far as I know. And Kuwait wasn't either. But Iraq and Afghanistan had it worst

  • Great song

  • not uncle dan he touched me in my nonoes

  • Unfortunately, for most of you. Society will never give up on the ideals of warfare. I wish dearly that war were to end, but we must all understand, people will hate others, prejudism, racism, and all other forms of hate will rule over a smart consncience. It's society, and we must adapt.

  • @yash55281 It is one thing to be entirely sure of what history has had to offer, and for men and women, like me to stand up and know they have say in society. It is entirely different to say that that same country, is also wrong for doing what is right in its own eyes. I don't have to be in agreement with you. You're foriegn and therefore have no say on foriegn political entricicies. And for a fact I am quite smart. I study military history. In order to understand peace, you must understand war.

  • @yash55281 "If we don't fight for peace then there aint no hope certainly." I agree, but the key word there is "FIGHT". If the world wakes up and realizes the stupidity and futility of war and violence towards each other, then I will happily advocate the destruction of all tools of war. However, until that day comes, I stand by that guns and such are necessary for the rest of us to protect ourselves from war and violence done to us by others.

  • @todell57455 figting for peace is like fucking for virginity...you fight usualy for ANYTHING BUT the peace.....

  • I really like this .

  • At least you guys see the futility of trying to end war permanently. Most people I've run into say that war can be stopped. And i have always told them they're idiots because without war, there is no peace for anyone. Its anarchy.

  • Human nature to be dominant. Just like when Iraq tried to dominate Kuwait and we said no.

  • Mark, beautiful piece. Really love it. Thanks for sharing.

  • I love all Vietnam veterans. My dad was in Vietnam. He passed away 4-23-11. He lived Vietnam until he took his last breath. He lived a life of pure hell. As a child of a nam vet so did I. I wear a Vietnam veteran shirt in honor of my dad and all nam vets

  • Really good song

  • AND THE TRUTH SHALL SET US FREE

  • Awesome video and song. Love it! Thankyou for your service to our country!

  • God rest the boys who answered the called and never came home from wars.

  • I want to thank each and everyone that did what they were lead to do and some were told to do. I wish I could tell the ones that were not here anymore but i know GOD will and he will let them know i said thank you

They all expected Obama to transform Iraq and Afghanistan into the new Vietnams but that didn;t work out so well...

  • Thank you friend for stopping by and sharing these words with me. I wrote this song almost 20 years ago and decided one day to post it here on the web to share with others. I really appreciate folks like you that take the time to share your words and feelings.

  • @Maysey1 thank you for your response my friend, i am so glad you decided to post this otherwise i would probably not have gotten to hear it, to me listening to it is like reading a book on vietnam in six minutes and forty three seconds!! it seems to say everything, it brings a tear to my eye but i feel pride, it brings home the horrers of war but also the reasons to go, i am british and not military but i'm proud of our troops and those of allies, this song makes me feel like a proud american -

  • @isleofmanttfan (cont) you have a great voice and this song is sung with truth honesty and passion ( thats how it comes across to me) thanks again, take care and be safe, jamie

  • Thank you jamie, I sincerely appreciate your kind words and hope you don't mind me sharing this comment in a little book I might publish with an .mp3 file of this song, I'm thinking of calling the book "This Is My Rifle", I want to share the many heartfelt comments left here with a wider audience. Life is good my friend if you wish it to be, thanks for making my life a little better.

  • @Maysey1 please be my guest, if you wish to use my comments then you are more than welcome to, it would be my pleasure, i wish you good luck with your book and if i have made your life even the slightest bit better than i am proud of that, thank you and take care my friend

  • Mark, welcome home, my brother! Thanks for sharing this. Former SSgt Larry Smith, Nha Trang AB, RVN, '70-'71.

  • Thank you friend for your service and sharing these words, I really appreciate you taking the time.

  • This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. My rifle, without me, is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will...

    ...

  • That's is definitely the rifle creed, thank you for sharing and taking the time to watch.

  • chilling, hearbreaking, beautiful.... : )

  • Thank you friend, I appreciate you sharing these words.

  • RIP: Heros of War are the ones that don't come back. i learned about a family member who was killed in WW1, RIP, even though i never knew he existed until i found out my ancestory, i wish his wasn't killed.

  • Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to share your words here, I sincerely appreciate them.

  • R.I.P to my uncle. i never knew him.... still to this day I will always respect his dedication and courage to serve!

  • My sincerest condolences to the loss of your uncle and deepest respect for his devotion to serve and humbled by your thoughtful respect of him. Thank you for sharing this comment.

  • 1969 I was home on leave on my way to Vietnam. While home a buddy of mine in the Army was shipped home in a casket. Ronnie Gardner had been married for about 2-3 months and only was in country for a little over a month when he died. Was a medic. Feel that he was trying to save sombody else when he got it. Did my tour then got out.

  • My sincerest condolences to your friend Ronnie and all who loved him. I'm grateful to all who served and glad you made it back safely. Thank you for taking the time to share you thoughtful words here with me. Mark

  • There are always better options than gun and rifle.

this is vedio a fantastic .

    thank you

  • Thank you for sharing these words, maybe one day we will figure out that we really are all related and in this world together. I totally agree we should exhaust every effort in peaceful dialogue before taking up arms in any conflict or disagreement, wars have only bred more wars and intensifies hatred between races. Mark

  • @mmarx11 "there are always better options than gun and rifle." Not true. For example, if I walked in on some1 attempting 2 rape my wife r sister r mother r any1 i care about, I can't think of a b8r choice than a good old m16. There r usually b8r options, yes, but it is HUMAN NATURE 2 prey on things. We r predators. This is why violence & war have been around since the beginning of civilization & will always be around. There will always be predators, we must have the means to protect ourselves.

  • @todell57455

I am surviving in Afghanistan without gun and I am realy happy that I have never had a gun otherwise there were alot of occasion that I could shoot some idiots .I am proud that I didn't kill anybody even when thing were stolen from us.It is ok they were poor and idiot, they did it to survive.

  • @mmarx11 Ur choice...

My choice... they did it to survive, I shot them to survive... Same difference, just I survived they didn't
