Was this on the news? I'm surprised it doesn't have views in the millions! Is that Kevin Clash as Elmo too? I mean, my gosh, if they would have streamed this on CNN, everyone all over America would be in tears!
Why would anyone dislike this? D: The Muppets were awesome and the man who created them was awesomer!!! :D I miss the voice of Kermit :( Jim Henson was the best ever :D
god knows how ELEVEN people disliked a memorial service - and a beautiful, touching one at that. Honestly, that's just disgusting. Here are these people mourning the loss of a husband, father, artist and friend. Sure, dislike his work but that's a completely different discussion - this is a group of talented performers singing a beautiful song at a memorial service - nothing at all to dislike - to do that is just soulless.
It was beautiful and all....but why start with Scooter and Fraggles? I guess the tones in the song were for those type voices.....thumbs me down if you wish, but it's just an observation I made....
@pika23 I have a feeling the performers of the other big names (Fozzie, Gonzo, etc) were too broken up to carry the song. You can see them comforting each other before it's their turn to sing.
@BerkeleyBuilt more like Rowlf's. he was the very first muppet before kermit, and friends of jim said his laid back personality was closer to jim's than kermits was. in fact, after he passed in 1990 Rolf didn't have another speaking role until 2001 out of respect.
I know I'm gonna get downvoted for this, but Jim didn't have to die. All he had to do was get his pneumonia checked out, and he very likely would have been fine.
This song makes me both happy and sad at the same time. It's an indescribable feeling that comes up every time I hear this song. Half of me says "It's sad because they're saying goodbye." but the other half says "It's happy because they believe in him, and I'm sure he believed in them, too. Maybe even everyone." It truly is hard to explain, but I think you get kind of the picture...
Another tragedy happened a year after Mr. Henson died, Richard Hunt, the man seen here who did Scooter's voice died tragically after a long battle with AIDS
The muppets scare me, I have to admit it. I was a Sesame Street person. But this is still so cool. And heartwarming. And sad at the same time... Oh there's Elmo!
I was only 12 when Jim died. At the time, I didn't really understand the impact he had (and would continue to have) on our world. Now as an adult, I'm amazed by the scope of his influence, and his creative genius.
Even if I thought at times I couldn't make my dream going, I just remember Jim along with this on and kept on believing in myself.... This song is a beautiful tribute to Jim he will be forever missed.
Just discovered this after seeing the new movie, remembering how much I loved The Muppets as a kid. I cant watch this without crying. The world owes so much to Jim Henson. His name carries as much weight as Disney, Sinatra or Micheal Jackson's. One of the greatest entertainer's ever known. I have never seen anything so beautiful as this. So glad The Muppets are back. We should all hope that some day we can leave such an impact as Jim did when our time comes to leave this world.
This is what a real memorial should be like: one that touches your heart and resonates in your past and present making you face your future just little bit stronger than you were before.
This is probably the best memorial service in TV history. Watching them do this song + all those people waving butterflies. I totally lost it by the time Elmo joins in. We miss you Jim :')
@Jtaylor1 This isn't sad. This is Love. While it's sad that he died so early, death is something that happens to us all.
This? This is his legacy. All those people, all of us, are better people for having known Jim Henson, even if it was only though his work. And because of people like us, that work will continue to be witnessed, and loved by new generations.
Coincidence, both Hunt and Nelson did the "Two whole people" verse in the Tribute episode, though there, Nelson did it first... while Whitmire joined in the third, though there, he was doing Bean Bunny's voice.
@Veggieman87: Yeah. Childhood personified via the Muppets, the Peanuts gang lead by good ol' Charlie Brown (Just One Person, from Snoopy the Musical), Winnie-the-Pooh (Cottleston Pie, as read in the Milne books), & L. Frank Baum's Oz--that which spawned the 1939 film classic, 40+ book sequels, adaptations (including one the Muppets themselves done with singer-actress Ashanti), & highly succcessful prequel/continuation/spin-off Wicked in both novel & musical form--serving as inspiration for Jim.
I love how they portray franks pain through fozzie on the special and even here with the memorial. And keeping Kermit away was a nice touch. Makes the group feel incomplete not having piggy and Kermit. Because without Jim the group isn't whole.
Heartbreaking that we lost Richard Hunt just two years after the death of Jim Henson. Two master puppeteers lost in such a short space of time. How sad.
Ever the professional, it's kind of sweet that Steve notices that Jerry's fraggle has his leg turned around backwards and he takes the time to fix it for him before he brings his own muppet out.

Jim Henson, thank you for being a part of my childhood. For Sesame Street, for the Muppets, for Saturday mornings watching the Muppet Show with my whole family, we loved it so. And thank you, because your work will continue to form part of the childhoods of children to come, including my 3 year old daughter that can't get enough of Fraggles. We love you! Happy Birthday!
Thank you, Jim, for giving me a fantastic childhood full of laughter and silly imitations because of your talent and your muppets. Thank you. So so much <3
I can't hear this song without shedding tears, jim henson was a master of the art of puppetry and I think every kid was influenced by him in one way or another be it the commercials his puppets were in back in the 50's or the new muppet movies. watching the muppet show always puts a smile on my face no matter what mood i'm in, my hope is that such work will never be lost to the recesses of time.
this is so beautiful and unbearably sad. this song always makes me well up - ever since i saw it on Peanuts' Snoopy special- but having it sung by Henson's puppeteers and all of his characters (muppets, fraggles) it is just too sad. It, like, struck a nostalgic nerve or something... im sitting here crying like a damn 5 year old...
all the characters that jim henson has ever created now pay tribute to the world he has created that he unfortunately left from. I wouldnt blame them for crying ='( R.I.P Jim Henson and thankyou for my childhood.
Sometimes I get really scared about the future. Especially right now as I get ready to graduate high school. I'm not ready to grow up yet and I'm scared to death, but Jim Henson and his stories and imagination help me to believe that there is a place in the world for those who will never grow up. I love you Mr. Henson even though you died before I was born and you are one of my biggest inspirations.
Im an almost 40 year old guy, always loved the muppets as a kid, and watching big bird sing, then this... OMG even I got a tear in my eye! :-( Awesome to see all the muppeteers and heart breaking to watch... RIP Jim Henson... :-(
Wow, I remember first seeing this and it brought me to tears! You could just imagine how difficult it must have been for the puppeteers to 'perform' here! Just think about it- their revered puppet master had just died and they were probably still in shock and grief! :(. Very sweet tribute to bring his creations together to honor him!
Jim Henson had one of the biggest impacts in the media, from children to adults. He is created some of the most memorable characters in the puppet industry and the Children media since the 1950s with "Sam and Friends" than making one of the longest running, if not the longest running television show of all time, "Sesame Street." Than came the hit 5 season long running variety show Muppet show than Jim Flew off from there making more TV shows and films. He will never ever be forgotten.
I watched Sesame Street and the Muppets and Fraggles with my kids. Jim Henson was an incredible person. His death was so sad and so unnecessary. I cried more than my kids did. Lovely video.
Was this on the news? I'm surprised it doesn't have views in the millions! Is that Kevin Clash as Elmo too? I mean, my gosh, if they would have streamed this on CNN, everyone all over America would be in tears!

Sometimes I get really scared about the future. Especially right now as I get ready to graduate high school. I'm not ready to grow up yet and I'm scared to death, but Jim Henson and his stories and imagination help me to believe that there is a place in the world for those who will never grow up. I love you Mr. Henson even though you died before I was born and you are one of my biggest inspirations.

this is absolutely heartbreaking, idk if it makes it more or less heartbreaking that kermit isn't played because Jim Henson is gone :(
