@MegaNotime: I gotta disagree about the Akon version of the song. The best parts of his version are the ones that are sampled from this version, and those are ruined by yet another cliche autotuned vocal track. The Brothers Johnson version here is my favorite. The original version by Shuggie Otis is my second favorite. Akon's doesn't even make onto the list for me. I was sick of autotune after maybe the 10th time I heard Cher's "Believe" way back in 1998. It should have died back then.

I think that it's because there is a slight amount of echo or reverb in the background somewhat.

It's even better than the guitar part in Lionel Richie's song "My Love"

I've been going through 70's songs here in "youtube" for more than 2 years now.

I've saved quite a collection as of June 14th 2010.

I started thinking about this song a few weeks ago not knowing anything about it except the 8 note phrase that comes in throughout. I didn't even know any of the lyrics at all.

Then last night WOGL (98.1FM) in Philadelphia plays this song as the opening for one of the 70's flashback sets that they do every week. I wrote down the song title immediately.
