Buyers beware. This is in reality a 16 bit/44.1khz device. It will record and playback in 24bit/96khz, but not simultaneously. Therefore if you have just recorded a track in 24/96 and you want to play it back....you must first close your DAW software, unplug the USB from the Ua-25ex, switch the sample rate, then replug the usb, and re-open your DAW program. This also means you cannot record as you listen to your previously recorded tracks...........huh, no overdubs???
I finally gave up on the 24 bit/96khz and just run it on the 16bit/44.1khz setting where it functions as it should.
As far as setup goes, so long as you download the appropriate driver for your OS from the Roland website, and carefully follow the driver installation process, and properly route the ins/outs within windows and your DAW, there should be no issues...
Just one more note.....for you guys having click, pop and audio dropout issues..........this is simply a result of your buffer size being too small.
I am running Windows 7, 64bit so depending on your OS........go.... Start>Control Panel> Sound and Hardware>Devices and Printers>UA-25EX.... ....This brings up the interface's control panel....just be aware, as you increase buffer size you also increase latency when monitoring through your DAW. The key is finding the balance....
@Fatonzzz really? how did you find that out? does it stand somewhere in the description of the interface? cause at the moment I'm looking for an audio interface and the more reviews I read, the less they manage to convince me. So finally I thought that the cakewalk has everything I need.....or maybe not? ....:/ so what if I record in 16bit/44 khz (is it possible to change the rate??), is it then possible to listen to the other tracks at the same time? How would that influence the audio quality?
@musicsnowandrazzles I am sorry for the super delayed reply, but I literally just noticed your message. I found this out because I bought the unit, thinking I had finally found the perfect solution. Yes, you can record in 16bit and then convert. However there are other advantages to recording in 24 bit...most notably the increased headroom.
No, you cannot record as you listen to your recorded tracks in 24bit mode. I went out and bought the M-audio Fast Track Ultra. Problem solved...
@Fatonzzz Does that mean you can record it in 24 bit and listen to it simultaneously in 16 bit?? So I could jus monitor in 16 bit until ive mastered the final mix, close it all down then reopen my DAW an listen in 24 bit?
@thebenoconnor Been a long time since I returned this unit, but I'm pretty sure there is a switch on the back of the interface that lets you operate in either one mode or the other, not a combination of both. If you are in 24 bit mode you cannot monitor and record simultaneously...
