Oh, it seems like "political correctness" is used differently in the UK then. In the US it's pretty much always related to people *directly* referring to race. I don't consider speaking against or for a certain policy "politically incorrect." A good example of a politically incorrect statement that I think should be politically "incorrect" if is someone were to say "I think that blacks/arabs are the cause of crime in our area," since it's also pretty clearly racist.
In the UK it relates mostly to race and religion, but simply because they are two of the most important issues at the moment. But the powers that be will use it to stifle debate on anything they don't want us to have a voice about. But tell me this Benkai: If the crime statistics showed that most crime in your area was indeed carried out by blacks/arabs, would you still consider your statement politically incorrect?
It wouldn't be politically incorrect so much as it would be misleading and irrelevant. Correlation doesn't equal causation, and just because the majority of crime in an area is caused by people of a certain race or religion doesn't mean that it is caused as a result of them being that race/religion. The problem is that a variable like race is very visible so people tend to point to it before looking at other factors like income, education, family, etc.

Being able to criticize someone for saying hateful and/or racist things is also part of free speech. Oh, it seems like "political correctness" is used differently in the UK then. In the US it's pretty much always related to people *directly* referring to race. I don't consider speaking against or for a certain policy "politically incorrect." A good example of a politically incorrect statement that I think should be politically "incorrect" if is someone were to say "I think that blacks/arabs are the cause of crime in our area," since it's also pretty clearly racist.

It wouldn't be politically incorrect so much as it would be misleading and irrelevant. Correlation doesn't equal causation, and just because the majority of crime in an area is caused by people of a certain race or religion doesn't mean that it is caused as a result of them being that race/religion. The problem is that a variable like race is very visible so people tend to point to it before looking at other factors like income, education, family, etc.

Good video. All I can say is the free world is watching. Freedom of speech is a two way street each one of us must come to our own conclusions. have faith in the basic decency of humanity it will prevail. Communication is the key to us getting along. Freedom of speech is essential.

@JustProud1 It behaves almost like a religion in that it assumes a right to decide what morality other people are to abide by. The problem with this is that it establishes two classes of citizens of those who comply with the moral authority of PC and those that decide it. Those that decide it have all the power over those that comply with it.

Funny, Cosmosis, because censorship seems to happen in non-socialist societies. It's interesting how you just use 'socialism' the same way people use 'fascism'. What cesnorship des lead to is an environment where deception leading to totalitarian authority can thrive. It need not be socialist. There are socialist countries with free press, and there are capitalist countries without it. It's not a matter of which ideology the leaders claim to adhere to- it's a matter of there being leaders.

I also learnt on an interview with Geert Wilders that Holocaust education is not being taught because it will insult Arabs. I think we need Holocaust education because that should have been one of the most significant events we as humans should learn from. My theory is that if the US sent aid to Afghanistan to build hospitals and schools, Afghanistan would of been a great ally. Instead we left them, thus giving birth to a terrorist nation. It was a good idea to declare war to find Osama Bin Laden but very mismanaged. As for the Arabs during the time, yes they did support Hitler. In fact, the Saddam Hussien family had ties to Hitler.
