Make sure you put the splatter on a layer beneath the players layer

With certain picture, the magnetic lasso is even easier, depends on the back ground though. Plus you can soften out the edges

I dont like the very polygonal look the lasso tool gives you, I find the most precise way to remove the background is a soft eraser, and i prefer precision over ease

Of course maybe you might be the most precise with the lasso, but i find myself the most precise with the eraser
