There exists also a documentary "The Times of Harvey Milk", made 25 years ago,(winning academy award 1984 as best documentary) w interviews w people close 2 Harvey + Harvey himself : full colour,and real footage of what happenned, TV excerpts, etc...This one is available itunes + Amazon. MORE INFO + LINKS on my channel.The whole documentary was on YT by somebody from Italy 2 months ago, but removed since a day I think.

This is an awesome movie, Sean Penn is brilliant, the supporting cast is superb, Emile Hirsche especially, but what the hell was up with Gus Van Sant that he did not see the hovering boom mic in the scene in the camera store when Harvey gives Cleve the horn to go out to the crowds? damn, pretty basic stuff there, Van Sant. Regardless, this film lovingly presents Harvey Milk's devotion to EQUAL RIGHTS for all. If Penn doesn't win the oscar, something is seriously amiss in Hollywood.

No he's not gay, after all he has a wife (Robin Wright Penn). But he has an interest in gay rights. (according to wikipedia).

The quote from Anita Bryant is very revealing, "If homosexuals are allowed their civil rights...then so would everyone else."

She knew gays and "everyone else" *have* civil rights, which the majority was not allowing them to exercize.

I remember the time well. Anita Bryant's campaign was inescapable. And even though my friends and I were only 14 and we were all straight, we could see she was a hateful, hateful idiot and that her time was passing.
