That was a big mistake letting Coop go to Italy after the '90 season. Yeah, his production dropped considerably by then, but we really could've used him against MJ and the Bulls in '91. We were pretty much helpless with Scott, Teagle or Tony Smith guarding him. Coop's shooting, ball handling to take the load of Magic, and defense on Jordan would've at least given us 2-3 more wins in that series.
ginoongkamote yo son if I, have the ability to dunk, which means anybody can, Im simply just 5'7 man. Pretty much just follow a real system such as the this one "50-inch-vertical[dot]com", it will help to increase your vertical jump and your overall basketball ability.
Dawkins...Cooper was NOT one of the first NBA role players. There were role players right out of hte gate when the league started. Don't sound so stupid.
I always see him almost everyday at Superior Gocers, the one thats right next to USC. He's cool and say's hi to you, not like some self center famous people.
Cooper was present in all of Magic's five championship rings. Defense wins championships, and given that Magic never became an all-defensive team member, Coop was the one who provided that much needed defense for the Lakers.
It took the Lakers 16 years to finally get around to retire Gail Goodrich's number, I say this man is finally due for that same honor.
The Buss's should let us fans vote for one player's number to be retired (outside the obvious choices of Shaq and Kobe and possibly Gasol). I'd like to think Coop would receive the most votes.
Michael Cooper was the most clutch 3 point shooter, free throw shooter and defender I have ever seen! Should be considered for Hall Of Fame. Showtime wouldnt have been near what it was without him.
# 21 earned his legacy in Los Angeles Lakers history... the man deserves to have his # retired... Cooper was such an integral component in the showtime Lakers success...
Man, I grew up watching the showtime Lakers, and I loved all of those guys. To this DAY, I'm amazed at how deep the bench was during the 80s. Cooper was great ALL-AROUND player, something you RARELY see today...and you definitely do see many GUARDS that can dominate a game defensively the way Coop did. One of my favorities of all-time...a guy my brother used to call "SOCKS", All Coop fans know why, :-)
da lakers should retire coopers number, rambis number, byron scotts number and offically retire the minnapolis jerseys that they have hanging besides the retired jerseys. wut do yall guys think?
gotta agree with you man.. the lakers are the most disgusting franchise by not retiring cooper's number. the guy just won five championship with the lakers and didn't even bother to retire coops number. big shame
@MAGIC32vsKOBE24 Yeah your right he spent all his career with the Lakers and made it to the All NBA D team 8 times and is still the only Laker to ever win D player of the year award and on top of all that he won 5 Championships with the Lakers. Also Scott spent i think 10 season with the Lakers is number 10 in the all time Lakers scoring List and lead the Lakers in scoring in 1 season and won 3 championships with them. But Lakers only retire Hall of famers thats what I hate about them.
So far Ariza somewhat fits what Coop did during the Showtime Era. Cooper did the dirty job with Rambis. All hustle and heart. Ariza has the intangibles to be like or as close as Cooper.
The Lakers need to retire his jersey. He is by far the best single defensive presence of all time. Thanks for the incredible memories Michael. COOOOOOP!!!!!
That was awesome. Thanks, ginongkamote. I just remember being younger and trying to play defense like Coop. The dude was great.
I agree with mnacct. Every championship team needs a Michael Cooper like player. A player that does not mind doing the extra stuff: diving for loose balls, defending the best player, and knocking down the 15-20 footer. Coop was that guy. Awesome!!
arguably the greatest perimeter defender ever

Michael Cooper was soo good back then, a perfect complement to Kareem and Magic. In my opinion he has the most original and pretty jump shot.
