I started a band called Love's Secret Domain a few years ago. It doesn't sound like coil but was indeed inspired by the Coil Aesthetic. The band has an Ep called PURE. It's on itunes and amazon. Look it up. It was produced out of a bedroom in Southern California with no budget and mastered to tape.
@saramonster133 Way cool. Thanks! If you're into the band Love's Secret Domain you can download it free on demonoid if you have a membership there. (I encourage people to steal it) If you don't have a membership there and can't affort it, then I could send you one for free. I'm a huge COIL fan. RIP Jonh and SLEAZY. They've absolutely inspired me on many levels.
@screendrem Huge fan here as well. :) I THOUGHT I'd been deep inside my head before I heard COIL - Definitely some of the MOST influential, and inspirational moments I've ever had -
I do have a membership tho, & will def check out ze downloadness! Thanks man! :)
I had no clue at the time who Coil was, hell i was into The Stooges and Black Sabbath but the cover art blew me away and once I wrapped my head around the music, I was forever indebted to one of the most creative and original groups ever.
what can i say, i love me some satanic homosexual acid freaks....seriously....they need to re-release thier version of the "hellraiser" soundtrack....too "creepy" MY ASS!
@WagesofSin309 it's partly based on William Blake's "O Rose Thou Art Sick" poem. You can find the lyrics by typing "coil o rose thou art sick" into google
these guys get lumped in with the "industrial" crowd/scene/genre which is a shame. they are so much more than that--one of the most creative bands/projects ever that is for sure.
@sinep667 Um, sorry but you might want to read the Inductrial Culture Handbook from RESearch to get an idea of what the founders of the "movement" intended it to be. "Experimental" elements in mainstream music is quite far off the mark. It differs between artists but the only one that comes close to yoru definition might have been Cabaret Voltaire. Inserting subversive elements into popular culture might be a better attempt to sum it up.
what a fucking amazing album this is, i was like 13 when it came out and it just blew me away, and still dose. So much has tryed but there really hasnt been anything close since. I would really like to hear the new stuf sleazy is doing with his possesed boys.
ha I remember living in Chicago when this came out & in the clubs, they'd play this right after Thrill Kill Kult or Die Warzau, & people would be like, "what the fuck"?
lol , this always reminds me of early 20th century Bataclan cabaret in Ilheus ... all that coke (un)Balanced by the odd bathroom morphine hit ... a foul , foul scent brought along from Edinburgh getting fouler to that heat ... all around me ... Ha, "all around me" was that main stage . Cheers Jhonn
fucking amazing! the height of coil TO ME (note and save that bag of shit you're carrying around for everybody) is Gold Is THe Metal, ROtovator, and this. oh, this. it's how i remember that fabulously fucking strange individual...
Even the demos of LSD are worth having. They're referred to as Love's Secret Demise.

For reference:
O Rose thou art sick.
The invisible worm,
That flies in the night
In the howling storm:
Has found out thy bed
Of crimson joy:
And his dark secret love
Does thy life destroy.

Bends my mind.
Had a deep psychological way of intimidating or scaring the listener.
John Balance was a genius as was sleazy.

@hundhun17 >Had a deep psychological way of intimidating or scaring the listener.
I'm fairly certain I saw an interview where they said something along the lines of "We want to scare people out of their normal life."

@redshaftedflicker but they are the most industrial band of them all
industrial doesnt mean its gritty or dark or anything
the basic principle of industrial music is to insert experimental elements to mainstream music and to find a way to sell it.
coil is the crown of industrial music.
rip john, rip industrial
