There is a hierarchy: 1) Rich 2) Government official 3) Poor--if you're not rich or a government official, this is your status. Just look at they way white collar crimes are treated in relation to that of other crimes. I don't support the death penalty, but I definitely thought he was going to get it for killing a judge: The government places a higher value to the lives of state officials (such as cops and judges) than to that of the general public. I doubt the transit cop in Oakland who killed a young man on New Years day will face the possibility of the death penalty--he may not even get life.
