I give Roy Williams props for what he has done there and hey maybe if you guys win a National Championship every couple of years if it means NIT years, that would be a pretty good tradeoff. As a Kansas fan people need to give respect to UNC. They have 5 national titles to our 3. UNC gave Kansas Brown and Roy. Dean played and learned under Dr. Allen at KU and coached UNC to to 2 titles and 800w's. My fanbase (atleast here) likes to act like they are 20x the program that UNC is. Coach Williams is NOT overrated. He can recruit way better in the ACC. This was a great victory and title afterwards. Happiest i've been since 88. Lets hope we can meet UNC again...in the Final Four.
@tlight26berry The only thing I don't quite agree with is Roy's ability to recruit any better or worse in the ACC. He did fine at KU. And if the 2009-2010 season was any indication, he clearly missed on the recruiting front. As for Larry Brown, he's admitted on several occasions that he liked Kansas better.

@williamgraynard Yes, KU let up a little and UNC made their run and brought it close, but then KU settled down and made their final run to seal it. I'm glad it happened the way it did because a blowout win outright might have worked against KU in the Championship game like it seemingly did in 2003.

UNC set the record for largest point differential in the NCAA tourney in 09. We weren't even remotely challenged once. 1)Kansas was unreal that year. Great team that crushed a great team. I'm a UNC fan and I was pulling for them against Memphis
2)UNC needed to lose like that because they were going to lose at some point in those last two games. This blowout made them come back the next year and steamroll everyone.
3)These are two great programs with great coaches who have respect for each other, so stop bitching at each other.

As for your point number 2, I don't think anyone thought UNC was going to lose, especially like this. I agree it motivated them to win the next season. They of course didn't have teams as strong as in 2008 to compete with in their run to the 2009 championship. Plus for any KU fan, it was finally a vindication for Roy leaving.

While Florida and UNC are/were very good, Kansas simply had more talent and depth than either. 2010 looks like it could be just as talented for Kansas.
That same 2008 KU roster got blasted by UCLA in the 2007 Final Four by 13. Then Florida demolished UCLA in the title game. So how is 2008 KU > 2007 Florida??? If you say, KU was better because they were "older and more experienced" in 2008, then I would say the same about the 2009 UNC team that lost to KU in 2008.
During Floridas two year run, Tennessee won three out of four games against Florida, that does not make them better than either of those two Florida teams.
What amazing is that Noah, Horford, Green and Brewer were all Juniors in 07. THey could have easily come back and gotten a three-peat. Kansas was a great team, however, that fivesome for Florida is an all-time one.

Truth is the game WAS over at this point. As a KU fan I know that Roy is a great coach, but I also saw games like this year after year in the tourney. Roys teams would get punched in the mouth by some team and then panic and fall way behind. Then they would storm back and get your hopes up and never have enough gas to actually finish. KU fans saw this for 15 years, Heels fans after George Mason, Georgetown and Kansas over the last three years, you should get used to these kind of losses.

Wow, you people need to grow the fuck up and stop arguing. My take on this:
1)Kansas was unreal that year. Great team that crushed a great team. I'm a UNC fan and I was pulling for them against Memphis
2)UNC needed to lose like that because they were going to lose at some point in those last two games. This blowout made them come back the next year and steamroll everyone.
3)These are two great programs with great coaches who have respect for each other, so stop bitching at each other.

As for your point number 2, I don't think anyone thought UNC was going to lose, especially like this. I agree it motivated them to win the next season. They of course didn't have teams as strong as in 2008 to compete with in their run to the 2009 championship. Plus for any KU fan, it was finally a vindication for Roy leaving.

During Floridas two year run, Tennessee won three out of four games against Florida, that does not make them better than either of those two Florida teams.
What amazing is that Noah, Horford, Green and Brewer were all Juniors in 07. THey could have easily come back and gotten a three-peat. Kansas was a great team, however, that fivesome for Florida is an all-time one.

It's true though. Even though UNC made a great comeback they had to expend all their energy and Roy Williams had to use way too many of his timeouts to try and stop Kansas' first half frenzy. The only way UNC was gonna' win this game was if their run was sustained long enough that they could take a 7-10 point lead and then hang on. They couldn't. Packer was right.

hahahah i didnt know he said that...despite the game really being over at that point, you shouldnt say that cause its very possible that a team like unc could come back. i see what he was saying, but still, not even halftime

Truth is the game WAS over at this point. As a KU fan I know that Roy is a great coach, but I also saw games like this year after year in the tourney. Roys teams would get punched in the mouth by some team and then panic and fall way behind. Then they would storm back and get your hopes up and never have enough gas to actually finish. KU fans saw this for 15 years, Heels fans after George Mason, Georgetown and Kansas over the last three years, you should get used to these kind of losses.

wow. what a bright comment. Of course the team that returned all five starters will be better than the team that replaced all five. However, if Chamlers, Rush, Arthur, Jackson, Kaun, Robinson were all back, I'm pretty sure they would still be the best team.

doubt it, UNC is the deepest team this year. They could tire out KU over time. I would like to see how that would turn out, especially since memphis blew the championship game giving the win to KU.

If Kansas had returned a Collins, Chalmers, Rush, Arthur and Aldrich starting lineup then they would have repeated as National Champs.

Although I guess I started this discussion, this really is a dumb idea, to say who would have won depending who came back. I always remember that they four Florida 04s (Green, Brewer, Noah and Horford) were all Juniors when they left, and they could have come back in '08 and gotten their three-peat. They didn't Kansas won. Kansas guy's coulda come back, they didn't UNC won. UNC was damn good this year. It would have been interesting to see '09 UNC vs '08 Kansas.
