Boo thankyou v much for this footage,it goes all the way past where i was brought up,its brill!!
My Mam and Dad loved it too,as u dont find footage like this pretty often do u !?
Cheers bud,ps I love the Heptonstall grave thingimagigg its spooky,no wonder its a spiritually messed up place, but them curses dont touch the power of Jesus,in fact they flee when they hear his name,God bless fella.
I do.. head from Waterfoot towards rawtenstall on the main road... Just after Lord's petrol staion on the left, the river crosses under Bacup Rd. from left to right.. About 100 yards further down, just before Hareholme flats, the river crosses back under the road from right to left. Look downstream (left) from this bridge, and what you see ahead is the old rail bridge that the train's on. It's now part of the footpath. On the film, it's heading up to Waterfoot.
Bacup Natural History Society had it on videotape in exactly the form seen here. I thought the same thing... "I want to see those missing miles!" as I assume the original super8 contained more footage. Unfortunately the lady at the 'nat' told me they found the tape in a drawer there and nobody knows who donated it or who filmed it.
This video shows just how short-sighted Dr Beeching was when his axe fell on around a third of Britain's railways back in the sixties. I suppose it's not too late to bring the Manchester Metrolink to Bacup?
Yes, but the Metrolink can run alonside cars and buses. Have you driven through Salford or Eccles? If not then take a look. It works just fine over there. What's lacking in Rossendale is political will and lots of hard cash. However I personally hope to see - in my lifetime - the Manchester Metrolink passing through the tunnels at the Glen.
Marvelous

I have done land survey all along the Irwell and this is an absolute eye opener, Beeching was a mindless moron.

Its far to late for the tram all the infrastucture is gone only the tunnels remain with most of the bridges over the roads and river long gone.
Also most of the old track bed has been built on.
It would have been a great asset to the area if the railway had remained open today!
We could have had a commuter link to Manchester second to none.
It was an act of mindless vandalism by the government of that time to close this line.
