your dock connector is broken, you need to replace it. you can see the battery logo because your phone still has a small charge, but can't continue to charge until you replace the dock connector.

This happened to me twice when I let the battery die, the problem with my iPhone not charging was because I used some chinese charger, and the charger didn't have power to charge the iphone from zero, it charges the iphone when it have more than 15% of battery, but it takes more than twice the time to do it to 100% compared to an original Apple charger.

If you don't have an official Apple charger my advice is to borrow one from a friend or try it out on a Apple store.Thumb up so ppl can see it

Woooooooooooooow it is solved now, i had exactly the same problem

here is what you need to do:

1-restore the software using iTunes (5.0.1 is recommended) "The normal way - holding the lock and home keys..."

2- Jailbrake the phone " using redsnow.... normal way"

3- disconnect / reconnect the cable you will see the battery with red / low level again... no problem...

4- hold the lock key for 10 seconds and keep it connected to the USB for 15 to 20 minutes and it will start

if your iphone isnt turning on , it wont connect to the computer, you tried to reboot by holding the home button and lock button and it just wont turn on or get passed the apple screen heres what you do cause i had the same problemu today.

1. hold down the lock button, the home button, the down button and switch the mute/vibrate switch at the same time. doesnt matter how many times you switch the switch up and down just keep doing this until you see the apple logo. then connect to the computer

My phone did this when it died while using YouTube, 1 remove sin card (use paper clip) 2 keep it plugged in 3 Hold lock and home till it flashes and turns off. (10 seconds) 4 wait for 30 minutes, NO LESS! 5 leave plugged in hold lock button (top) it will turn on 2 the apple. ~ I herd: Hold home button 5 sec. then plug in (did not work for me) also heard plug into itunes and reset your computer (make sure your pc sleep mode is off) I did not try this but seems to work for most.

Ok i learned this from my friend press the mute button 4 times up and down then press the lock and home button for 7-10 seconds then an apple pops up then connected to your computer and it will charge.

@Enicam i navigate all over internet and noone says taht this kind of problem is for the battery. In general says taht is a hardware problem like a "bad" connection of some cable to the logical board, i don't know...

@gertab1 hey! i know now what the problem for my iphone was: its the "dock connector" that was not working anymore, meaning its not a battery problem!!! if the dock connector is broke you are not able to charge, sync AND the home button does not work. i changed the battery, iphone worked but homebutton didnt and i could not charge anyway... maybe that helps out : ) good luck with yours!

.. Mine has the same problem.. WTF I didn't drop it when it stopped charging or anything I had just givin it a full charge and by my break four hours later it was completely dead. I brought it home and charged it all night woke up and it was still dead.. FML.. So I went to Bell and they said all iPhones have a year warranty and that I should call the apple number and they will send me a new one. Have you tried that I know that doesn't fix it but atleast you would have a working phone then..

TURN OFF ur ipod then restart ur computer (make sure ur ipod is connected then when ur pc is turning on turn ur ipod on and let it turn on )
