i remember this song!! i was in H.S when it first came out! here is the sad part of my story my girlfriend broke up with me bcuz her parents didnt want me around her! so i keept playing over and over this song! now that i find it again wow it brings back sad memorys for me!!
talent is talent no matter where who sings it. out of shalamar you got the moonwalk from jeffery daniels for m. jackson and i have seen jeffery moonwalk( forward) and backwards all across the stage on the song pop along kid in huntsville,al and that was some wild shit to see that for the first time ever!!!!!!
This is actually a far better song than MOST of the songs the Jody/Howard/Jeffrey trio came out with. This song hit #11 on the R&B Charts, the lyrics/rap was on point, the beat was SICK, and it was addictive. This song did real well.
i dont know why people are here hating on this song....this song was the shiot back then...people act like they were not living and listening to the radio back then....this song did really well on the charts.....i was a kid and i remember i was like 8 years old....i am 31 now and i know it....and i work in radio now.... : )
Im so sorry but this shit is sorry that was not shalmar they should`ve called this group wack tarnishing the image of shalamar no jody, howard, jeff no shalamar i cant fathom the reason why they tried to come out with this group this song and group is wack as hell
They would have had to do a lot better than this album and the 1990 one, which was worse, becuase Shalamar was already a group whose time was behind them, and they had to move with the times in a way that would be succesful and appreciated. It did not happen.Too bad.
Its a good song..Thought it was Kool & The Gang for a while..They just could not make /construct any decent/memorable numbers like this after..Shalamar was hollowed out. This is why after the Hewitt era, things were far anf few inbetween.
Who the hell is this impersonating Shalamar? They should be arrested. If I were these people & I knew what Shalamar sound like & the wonderful performances they did, I would not have tried this job.
Ive had a change of heart, this song is slamming. The more I play it,the more I like it.Still this lineup cant compare to the classic lineup,Howard,Jeffrey, and Jody.
i was surprised by the song it is good but they should have changed the name they are all good singers but they are NOT "Shalamar" and never will be sorry I am not hating they were good in thier own right they didnt need the shalamar name
What people have to understand is that this lineup was Shalamar in name only. Dick Griffey was trying to ride the Shalamar train as long as possible but he would've been better off renaming the group at this point because these people were not Shalamar.
hey this song used to hit hard as hell back then, it was a big hit for this paitcular version of shalamar...but yeah they didn't last that long, lol....peace
the reason why you hear it is because it sounds like it...but this is something that happens in music anyway...even back in the 50's and up until now, all of a certain era sounds the same...but at least this era of copycats sounds better....peace
Exactly, each era has that specific sound theme. Ex: that clap the was often used in the late 70's disco/dance music. But i hear what trebleclef1916 said, i also do hear "She's strange" in this song (the chorus part). The notes are basically identical. Though each era has that sound, the music is never exactly identical, its usually a variation.
variations but it still sounds the same regardless...i mean pretty much all those prince protegees' had that same type of sound....basically what you just said is what i was saying...lol...i work in radio myself so i understand music....i produce the tom joyner morning show in houston, tx....been in da radio buz for 12 years now....i play this paticular song on da radio to be honest and i love it.
Hmmm... ex-football player Sidney Justin,Delisa Davis and Micky Free... : the 1987 version(and the beginning of the end...) of Shalamar;...the one that sucks...!!
This is actually my fave version of the band but it gets no respect. If I am not mistaken they had acouple of videos out. It's definitely got a influence of the Minneapolis sound like airthang that came out around that time. Prince rules.

1. The shalamar image was fading. new stuff & sounds were coming up and appealing to folks.
2. The new kids on the block were not even a shadow of the old group, and could not take off from where they left off.
3. No great/remarkable hits.

cant believe the contradicting opinions on this song......
heard this when i was 14 years old and stuck in my head till just now i can now play it to myself via youtube at leisure
this song is fantastic and yes there is a cameo/strange fel about it ,,,,,but it has its place in rare soul favourites and greats

This song was a huge hit, peaking at #11 on the R&B Charts...better than their earlier showings on the R&B chart since around the early 80s!
