So there is text we don't understand and there is text that's "outdated". When interpretating quran, you do not look to the text only. you also make use of hadith. Look, if you go by historical accounts you see that in many ancient cultures, women were not highly regarded. In some cultures the goddesses outnumbered the gods. Many of the ancient records still survive today, there are land deeds and tax records and birth records. the change would have happened over time as people moved around and it became common. The lot of women had begun to change in many parts of the world, some men did not like that so they made a religion to stop it.
