I feed mine raw bran, it's cheaper than rolled oats and makes it easy to sift out the worms with a sieve.

@FrogurtX....You seem to be a bit confused with the terminology. The mealworms themselves are the larva stage of the beetle. There's 4 growth stages to this insect. Egg-Larva(mealworm)-pupa-beetl­e. You separate the beetles from the mealworms so they dont try to eat the eggs. Whether this happens idk.
