@EmiliesSyringe That's exactly what I was going to say. I watched the restored director's cut today.
And about RH Lee's song? When it started off your list of cons I said aloud, "Oh, good GOD, I can't listen to this" and turned down the volume (I worship RH Lee). RH Lee is offended.
Re-watching this video, and I just remembered something that I heard while watching the 1776 DVD commentary. The reason why the Richard Henry Lee song was put in was because there was more than 30 minutes afterwards without a song. Virtually, this was unheard of in the world of musicals. They were a little afraid that the audience would lose interest during the long talking/plot advancement segment. So, they needed a ridiciously flashy song that would be remembered.
Oh, how your humor in this made me laugh. Correction, made me fall out of my chair laughing, scare the cat, thus knocking down a cup of hot tea, causing me to laugh hysterically for the rest of this video.
Er, in other words, great review. I love this currently under-appreciated movie.
@EmiliesSyringe Haha, thank you so much. I'd say we're even now, as this is definitely one of the most humorous and enjoyable comments I've ever received. ^_^
Loved it, Gaff! The 16:9 aspect ratio, the fact that all of DVD images filled the screen correctly, one can tell that you worked pretty hard on this. I really liked the laptop/tv combo to show the pan & scan difference (and the fact that you actually sat them next to each other and pushed "Play" at the same time!). Really can't get enough examples of how wrong P&S is. That and stretching whatever image to fill your TV screen...
Anyway, great work man! Let's see how the DBZ teens like it!
Ha, I am so glad to hear someone compliment the aspect ratio because if that wasn't a huge pain in the ass I don't know what was. For some reason, my editing software stretched the 2.35:1 images to fill 16:9, so I had to manually go through every clip and fix them as best as I could. Hopefully it's all pretty seamless.

Great review, though. :)

Great review! I'm not even really a musical fan and even I enjoyed 1776 since I saw it in the (i think) 4th grade. William Daniels is awesome.
