but the hole project was canned after the super car scare , started by mr green , so the engines 340s found there way into chargers code name E55 with single 4 barrel carbi , large valve heads hilif cam
same engine code used on a factory 340 T/A CUDA

if you stupid yanks would just listen to 1 of these factory blue printed 265ci 320hp inline six scream in titts of .pull the ass off any small block v8 , this built for road racing .they tested both the 6 and imported a few 340v8 for testing as well and found the six was faster around the test track , this car was at it end devlopment wise, the 340 v8 was going to be used in six pack carb form same engine in a
T/A 340s cuda.s .we even imported 2 containers of 340s hipo engines
Screw this mazda protoge lookin ricer with a farm truck 6 cyl its nuthin but a chicken pen hauler...Its simple american mopar just looks a thousand times better sounds a helavah lot better and moves out way betta and thats why all you europeans pays us americans millions of dollars (per car LOL) for our mopars to be shipped to your hometowns! Oh btw you dont see none of us buyin them dodge protoge from yall now do yah? HAHAHAHA HELL NO!!! YOU CAN KEEP THEM!
@xIrish56x Well said. The old 'Australia vs US' arguement really doesn't go down. This isn't even our 'best' muscle car - if you take something like the Holden Torana XU-1, one of the best australian muscle cars ever, it will be able to really give even the legends like Pontiac and Mustang a real run for their money. The Charger is up there amongst the greats.
@xIrish56x If you want to see how they did in racing, look up "Bathurst 1972." Chrysler Australia went under in 1980. If they'd just been a bit better on build quality (hard to find an unrestored Australian Chrysler without any rust) they might still be around today. While modelled on their US cousins, even borrowing parts, they were uniquely Australian
Why don't u fuckers just shut up and agree that muscle's the way to go whether it's American or Australian. Either or have produced some awesome machinery over the years!! I'm sick of seeing dumb twits arguing on you tube about shit!!!
ah yea i forgot to mention one of these was sent to Italy for testing the 6 pack weber setup and was being tested next to Ferrari's on there test track and the first one of these in America was purchased by general motors :P
It's a cute little car reminds me of the 70's Mercury Capri it would be nicer to see a 383 or 440 magnum in it but the 6 cyl is cute and a bit more suiting for australia's enviormental regulation i suppose? But i like it even if its more of a import/ricer type of car than a genuine detroit fire breathing muscle car of the 70's?
@ECCCxMECH hum yea environmental regulations this baby pumps out 302hp as is pre pollution i am unsure of your alliance (ford /gm) here is some numbers from Wikipedia the 351 v8 in 1972 it was rated at 153 to 161 hp (114 to 120 kW), and the gm 350 1973–1974 L82 was a "performance" version of the 350 producing 250 hp (186 kW) and 285 lb·ft (386 N·m) both v8s not as good as an Australian inline 6 cylinder re. racing these the suspension and gearing of these cars are not meant for corners
@vcval thats awesome numbers for a inline 6 cyl i'll agree to that but that engine is better off in a pickup hauling hay accross the farm field cause of its torque! Its still no comparison to our 1970 Challenger 426 Hemi pumping out well over 500 HP it will run circles around that toy & if you wanna talk Fords & Chevys? First off dont use our baseline economy small blocks vehicles lets talk a 1969 Boss 429 Mustang or a 1970 SS Chevelle LS6 454 nuthin in australia back in them days could compete!
@ECCCxMECH Took ya 426 cubes to punch out those numbers! this is a 265 6 cylinder aussie muscle machine that kicks serious arse! see if you yanks can come up with a 6 that can run the same figures as a 265 hemi that was produced in 1972. you couldn't even do it now in 2011.
@AusBeatle them stupid yanks got hold of the 256 hemi engine blue prints from the 70s and used it in there late 90s jeeps look at the engine in a jeep and tell me thats not a hemi ? with alloy head and FI
@ECCCxMECH Until you hit a corner. US muscle cars are very fast in a straight line, but lose a hell of a lot of time because of poor brakes and suspension designed to "float" through corners. If you want to go drag racing, yes it would probably win. If you want something that will take on circuit (where the corners go left and right) rally work, or not stop for tyres and fuel every 200 miles, go Australian designed and built. A supercharged 265 can still pull 400hp when done right
@bass4life1000 daamn you australian faggot whatcha gittin all hot in ur panties fo? If you read my comment i said i LIKED THE MUTHA FUCKIN CAR BISH! (its still a 6 cyl piece of shit) and If your dumb australian ass stopped fucking kangaroos so much you might have half a brain you fuckin knucklehead!
@ECCCxMECH Hey dude. depends on how you like your muscle - huge engine and big straight line stonk, or milder acceleration and tops handling. That's how i see it. I'd love some yankee iron one day, but in the end i'm more for lightness and agility (3010 lb!) with a hot six in front rather than a big heavy v8 (but i aint no ricer). IMO putting a v8 in ruins them - these little terrors corner hard and scare the shit outta V8s! Oh yeah back in the day: 14.1s 1/4 mile - these beasties can boogy! :D
@ECCCxMECH The big blocks were both a blessing and a curse to Mopar muscle cars in the US. They did go very fast in a straight line, but the sheer weight of the engine adds massive understeer, strains the brakes, and without a massive fuel tank shortens their range dramatically
lol you guys have some funny put downs, but i have been informed, but you guys still didnt ever have the 440 or 426 HEMI lol But ive been talkin with these guys ive found some appreciation for your racing these cars, ive found i really like the Pacer I believe its called looks like a bad ass version of our lame ass Chevy Citation. You guys should look up 60's trans am racing on here and see our muscle cars are good for more than straight line fun
@dreamcharger01 D-Uhhhhh...The amewican speaks again....the one thats so patriotic(like all yanks) he still has his head up his ass....U know these e49s were running 14's? six cylinder?
@meltdown1232000 The infamous E49 Charger had the most exotic carburettor setup in any Australian car; pretty much a separate carburettor for each cylinder. If they had a specific fault, it was steering; could have been better geared. 265 cubic inch, modified from what was meant to be a docile family car engine. Latter day version of this engine would be the 4 litre that powered early 90s Jeep Cherokees, but that was a castrated version by comparison

@dreamcharger01 Appreciate it for what it is man. If you are a true Chrysler fan you wouldn't be saying that sort of ignorant shit! At least we had the initiative to build and design our own cars which if you look at GM Holden Australia, today is the only profitable product GM America has left in your failing car market. We're even making your freakin cop cars for gods sake!! For a country as small as we are we do all right. Whos laughing now!?
@hobbesandcalvin1000 I agree man! Totally fucking thumbs up for u! ...Aus has what just over 20 million people...and the yanks give us stick for our cars..our actors and musicians and everything else it seems...but look how small our fucking population is compared to those fucks...and they still cant produce decent talent...who was ripping up the oscar awards the other year huh?
@oneweirdfellah Also...work this out ok? @dreamcharger01 funny that seeing as the australia engineers took what was a american 6cyl and turned it into what it is yeah the 440s are great but why dont you show respect for what was built besides that why don't you do some research and then you will see they issued the v8 here as well and why is it that with the ford 351 clev the yanks source out the aussie heads CAUSE THEY FLOW BETTER

@outlawxbcoupe man back in them days you wouldnt give a flying toss, now when you look back you spew. I remember havin all sorts of rare bits and pieces, i couldnt give them away so i threw in tip, im talking r/t dash diff etc. Now im cursing myself
wicked car better than a PHASE III by far even beats it on the 1/4 but the ford fairys still cry. fastest 4 door in the world my ass CHARGER POWER!!!!!!
the charger is a better car, all it needed was some better brakes and higher topspeed. My mate has a Valiant Charger wit a 265, even with 500kg of passengers it pulls!. and holy shit it pulls.
The reason the engine sounds sick is the twin overhead fox tails and chrome plated grease nipples have been tampered with. A quick purple paint job a couple of wogs sitting in the front and it will be as good as new.
@1kinomD It was the 70s, and Chrysler Australia even had Magenta. All the LOUD colours you can think of. I can't remember what Chrysler called their metallic putple, bit it's about the same colour as a Violet Crumble wrapper
@allmopars They had 215 kW and ran the quarter mile 14.3 secs. Fastest accelerating Oz muscle car at the time. Regardless of what the Ford fans say it was quicker over the quarter mile than the Phase 3 HO.
That engine does sound a little sick and in need of some TLC. It could just be the mic picking up the sound being shithouse but if not, it sounds like it's not firing on all cylinders.
265's may kick arse in bathurst & that sounds GREAT hottered up but, NOTHING can beat the sound of a hottered up V8 318,360 or a 440 mopar engine, or a Old Style V8 in general.... agreeable anyone??
@XLesky and it set those times on crossply tyres. if you remove the (at least) 1 second from their times for radials they are still pretty competitive today, in a straight line at least. not they handletoo badly for a 40 year old car.
The fastest 6 cyclinder until the Porsche released their 911. Enough said.

265's may kick arse in bathurst & that sounds GREAT hottered up but, NOTHING can beat the sound of a hottered up V8 318,360 or a 440 mopar engine, or a Old Style V8 in general.... agreeable anyone??

depends what you like, not all people like the same music. I don't think the 6 is running right in this video...sound like 5 cylinders...

@Suzuki3Wheeler pretty much agreed but there is one thing that can beat that sound and it is the almighty 426 HEMI

@XLesky and it set those times on crossply tyres. if you remove the (at least) 1 second from their times for radials they are still pretty competitive today, in a straight line at least. not they handletoo badly for a 40 year old car.
