I don't what happens when they come to Boro whether it's tactics or what or whether they are just playing in easier leagues and can't cut the premier league but it's disappointing never the less that they can't produce what they've done at other clubs. He should just come back to Korea and excell at where he is best. He seems to be a lot more comfortable, and seems like he's tired of constant struggle at boro.

lol this guy played greatly in many great stages. too many cases... but ill just list one. he was the top scorer of asian cup with 6 goals. the following tournament he added 4 more goals. and i still remember him in 1998 against the netherlands when he came on as a sub (korea was losing 3-0). 17yr old boy surprised everyone bcoz he was the only one so confident and energetic. but yeah... he shouldn't hav moved to such a big stage right after recovering from the injury... shame... sigh.

he is a great player... well, as i said, it was his greatest mistake moving to premiership right after recovering from the injury, yeh (not to mention his terrible luck of hitting the post countlessly)
sadly, it's really hard for asian players to adjust to european league. i guess it's the matter of stamina + physique. lee is just one of numerous cases...

clearly we have a difference in opinion of how we define a great player. you can be a fan of any player and thats fine. i also think lee is a good player, but like i said, his inconsistency has costed him, and people can come up with numerous things to blame it on, but in the end that is also part of his ability as a player, in my opinion. I agree he is probably one of the best K-league players, but as you know, the competition of k-league is not even comparable to most of the known leagues

Guus Hiddink cut him from the 02 team because he didnt show as much determination in his play as other players.

i agree with you on shin young rok. i like him too because of his hard work ethic and he is willing to go physical against bigger opponents, and he wins most of the balls both on the ground and in the air by sheer will, something that dong gook never had despite the gifted skills. i understand that some injuries are hard to avoid, but avoiding injuries is also part of the player's ability, thats just my opinion. every player goes through some injuries, but great ones can avoid a lot of them too
and just to throw this out there, when we look back in the future on the evaluation of Park ji sung's career, its all gonna depend on whether he is able to stay healthy in his remaining time at man utd and the rest of his career. i guess people can think that several major injuries is a valid excuse for a bad career, but to me, most players aren't just unlucky. avoiding injuries is a skill too.

There isn't any logic in it. He did things in the game, which i attended, that nearly, and did, cost us the game. For starters, Huth's goal should have been disallowed as DGL was offside, and interfeared with play, but the linesman didnt give it. He was also caught offside a number of times in promosing positions. And with the last touches of the game, him and Aliadiere were 2 on 1 with Cacapa. The simplest of through ball, and Aliadiere would have scored, but he passed it straight to cacapa!!

urm, that one shot wasn't everything. although he came on as a sub, i remember him as the most vibrant one (with good movement) in midst of devastated korean players who were completely lost.
some glories? i wouldn't say that.

u can never deny that he is a terrific player.
remember the first thing dick advocaat (who led korea to its first ever away world cup victory. he even led zenit fc (as u know) to uefa cup triumph) said about korean players: "i haven't seen any player in korea more brilliant than lee dong-gook".
he is a great player... well, as i said, it was his greatest mistake moving to premiership right after recovering from the injury, yeh (not to mention his terrible luck of hitting the post countlessly)

sadly, it's really hard for asian players to adjust to european league. i guess it's the matter of stamina + physique. lee is just one of numerous cases...
anywayz, i really wish koreans would stop killing him for his failure at middlesbrough, remembering how much bliss and happiness he brought to us in his good days.
hakan sukur did only a fraction of wat he was capable of doing in turkish league, but still, turkish folks still love him, right?

clearly we have a difference in opinion of how we define a great player. you can be a fan of any player and thats fine. i also think lee is a good player, but like i said, his inconsistency has costed him, and people can come up with numerous things to blame it on, but in the end that is also part of his ability as a player, in my opinion. I agree he is probably one of the best K-league players, but as you know, the competition of k-league is not even comparable to most of the known leagues

I like him too, believe it or not. but there is a difference between liking a player and judging him as a soccer player. just because i dont think hes not that great a player doesnt mean i hate him. if that was the case, i should hate every single k-league players or worse, right?

but you also have to understand Lee's determination has been on question all his career too. for some reason he seems to lack confidence despite his gifted skills. 98 WC, most koreans remember as Lee's breakthrough. well, Lee was offered to start for their 3rd game against belgium and he declined that offer because he wasnt confident that he would do well on the wing. Guus Hiddink cut him from the 02 team because he didnt show as much determination in his play as other players.

sigh.. inconsistent? u should take a look at his seasonal goal-scoring record (btw i never said anything about YOU hating him). hiddink cut him from the 2002 squad due to his lack of determination?? stamina and speed were the reasons he was excluded.
but yeah... wat a pity. he is no longer the lee dong gook he used to b. he screwed up badly (i blame his form deteriorated by the long-term injury + lack of given chances).
currently i have high hopes on shin young-rok.

i agree with you on shin young rok. i like him too because of his hard work ethic and he is willing to go physical against bigger opponents, and he wins most of the balls both on the ground and in the air by sheer will, something that dong gook never had despite the gifted skills. i understand that some injuries are hard to avoid, but avoiding injuries is also part of the player's ability, thats just my opinion. every player goes through some injuries, but great ones can avoid a lot of them too

and just to throw this out there, when we look back in the future on the evaluation of Park ji sung's career, its all gonna depend on whether he is able to stay healthy in his remaining time at man utd and the rest of his career. i guess people can think that several major injuries is a valid excuse for a bad career, but to me, most players aren't just unlucky. avoiding injuries is a skill too.

There isn't any logic in it. He did things in the game, which i attended, that nearly, and did, cost us the game. For starters, Huth's goal should have been disallowed as DGL was offside, and interfeared with play, but the linesman didnt give it. He was also caught offside a number of times in promosing positions. And with the last touches of the game, him and Aliadiere were 2 on 1 with Cacapa. The simplest of through ball, and Aliadiere would have scored, but he passed it straight to cacapa!!

Gareth took a chance on an "out-of-form, critical injury recovering" striker for "free". To me, this means: a. if Lee DG does great, no loss here. b. if Lee DG stinks, no loss here... Normally I'd give everyone a fair stab at things but he's just so useless! I hope he sells us a lot of shirts in the Far East but I think he's better off turning up in adverts and smiling at the camera at half-time in a Boro shirt. I hope I'm proved wrong but I seriously doubt it.

Since he has come to Boro, he has failed to impress and so far is around our 3rd or 4th choice striker tbh. With Mido and Tuncay in the team, i think he will be elsewhere soon, in matches he's played he has been over-rated and hasn't performed apart from one goal in countless matches against a league one side.
