  • This poetic masterpiece is real music

  • Is that Bill Murray on the drums?

  • @D3STRUCT0L0LZ I thought he looked like John C. Riley!

  • Can't believe anyone thinks Eric played badly here. Great singing (I wish he would sing more), great playing. Eric experiments with different scales, and if you think he is playing "sloppily" here, you need to study music a bit more.

  • Awesome song EJ. Listening to EJ is daily routine for us!

  • @Eugene154 Didn't go that far with it.. I recommend checking out Andy Timmons live, you'll see where I'm coming from.

  • @LukeNewb I recommend getting your ears checked.

  • wow it's kind of hard to watch how sloppy he plays after watching a ton of Andy Timmons videos

  • @LukeNewb Yes, Eric Johnson, the epitome of sloppy guitar playing. A blind 5 year old can play cleaner.

    [/sarcasm]

  • I didn't know John C. Reilly played drums for EJ.

Sorry. EJ is a world treasure; everything he plays is distilled awesomeness.

  • @cockdumpster chill out dude, and dont call my gf bitch okey, she is only 16. by the way i am big fan of eric johnson and i just wanted to add some imagination behind the scene

  • at 4:50 he goes for whammy bar, 6:17 that was my girlfriend giving the rose, i dont blame her for that he is just a perfectionist

  • @N2cosxsinx - You don't have to lie & make up stories. That was not your bitch giving E.J that rose at the end of the song.

  • That drummer looks a lot like John C. Reilly from Step Brothers. A lot.

  • its sad that most people dont know him outside of the pathetic game called "Guitar Hero"

  • I'm surprised over the amount of "funny" notes and plain mistakes in that solo.

  • @locoboxspaceship The Notes sound "funny" because your ears may not be trained to the scales Eric is using. It's interesting that there are many ways guitarists use scales that sound very off, but the music makes sense. He also may be using things like pinch harmonics , I just enjoy it for what it is

  • @peterbuck78 Nope, my ears are well trained, they know when notes are off, heard all of them in this solo.

  • Thank you for posting this performance.

  • Eric is tonal purist with classic style . I'd listened to vai and satriani before i heard this guy.....and i was like....wow , why does his guitar tone , sound so wide open and full of character,,,,,,turn the mids up kid , oh and fender and marshall been humpin forra while now,,,,,i love his clean tone.... just like ringin a bell

  • @420pabst that tone is something that I as a classical musician love about Johnson. It is something that we have lost in modern music since the 1950's in my opinion. Electric instruments are not suppose to cover up a bad player, they should be used to make a good one more versatile.

  • super great.

  • I just picked up tix to see him in a small listening room! I can't wait!

  • Is he playing a 7 stringed strat???

  • @Acer6828 no?

  • @Acer6828 7 string strats don't exist as far as I know. i don't think you could call it a strat if it had 7 strings and EJ is a purist as far as that sort of thing goes. he's just a hell of a guitar player

  • @irollemphat yeh, unfortunately they do and it was pig ugly to look at and worse to play (I have enough on with 6 stings!) Google it, its not a pretty guitar, looks all out of proportion.

  • @Acer6828 Really not.

  • he should sing more often hes well good

  • Comment removed

  • It's old school clothes when psychedelic was the ruling affect upon the rockers. Everyone was riding the astral plane!

  • The drum sound is awfull!!!!

  • Technically mesmerizing, soulfully connecting, deeply inspiring . . .

  • FIRMA

  • Tommy Taylor Rules!

  • I would give my left testicle to have my bass guitar sound as crunchy and wonderful as Chris Marosh's bass in this video. Love the old basses with the horseshoe pick ups!!. The bass stand out at 4:47 is enough to keep my rocks off!!!

  • I own the DVD this is on, and I still watched the utue vid. IMO the solos were perfect. From tone to phrasing Eric is the man!

  • he sings well because he is a guy how loves music, it's not just a guitar player

  • He sings well. Normally, great guitarists that sing are just awfull.

  • @pierolivier111 sorry man, but however good a guitarist he might be, ev en though he sings in key, his voice sounds like SHIT. just my opinion though. flame me at will.

  • @mightyafrowhitey its not as bad as you make it sound, so for that i dont like your comment, but think about it if he couldnt sing in key.

  • I know I won't make any fans on this one, but he looks an awful lot like one of the carter boys all growed up

  • this drummer is amazing!!!!!!

  • it's an '58 i believe he played at the time, one of the first 3 tone sunburst

  • Which strat is that then? Don't remember him playing a 3 tone burst before.

  • probably his custom one is it not? i could be wrong

  • Isn't it just his famous '57 strat he played live mostly, like in Austin Tx in 1988 and G3 etc?

  • @blacktarantulaX The 88 show was played on his '54 Strat named Virginia... G3 as well I believe. He stop playing it because he dropped it. He sold it, a decision I think he regrets.

  • For me ,He is the best guitarist ever and the greqat vocalist also.

I wanna listen to his new album badly but it never comes true..............sigh

  • theres something diffrent here, not as much delay or reverb on his sound as he usually uses

  • he looks like hes in his late 30s

  • It's hard to beleive he's already 54

  • That's the most beautiful voice I've ever heard coming out from a 54 yold.

  • @Andrexthor 50 years he have here.

  • What's that thing in the output jack of his guitar that he uses instead of a cable chord?

  • If you look closer that is regular cable, but it's wrapped around guitar belt.Guitar players do that bcs if they accidentally step on it during the play,it won't plug off

  • Oh yeah I see it. Someone told me that there are these things that are like chordless plug in thingies that you use instead of a cable so you don't have to worry about the chord hanging out, so I thought Erick Johnson might be using that! lol

  • ok... is that john C. Reiley on drums :S cuz it looks a damn lot like him, and i just watched step brothers and he was playin in that haha. (probably special effects but it still looks like hiim here ^ )

  • haha, for real. He plays drums in the movie too! lol

  • John C Riley actually plays the drums in step brothers, plus you know the movie walk hard a duey cocks story he plays all of the songs with a live band and went on a duey cocks tour playing all the songs from the movie.

    john c riley is god!

  • @t1p2shreddd

LOL, the drummer is actually Tommy Taylor...I thought for months it looked like the one guy from Con Air (Duncan Malloy)

  • Dude.

    This is beyond amazing.

    GO ERIC JOHNSON!

  • he misses one riff look at 5: 50 and he banging his head

  • Amazing player, awesome tone, crap shirt.

  • he cant be perfect jaja

  • he is perfect.. :P

  • i think he would be better as just a lead guitarist in a rock band, but he's still a beast.

  • I was at this festival. EJ was the reason I went and he was Incredible! Crazy loud at 25' away.

EC stepped out to the side to admire one of his favorites.

  • my fav guitarist

  • One of the more mellow songs I like aside from all the symp metal i listen too. lol

  • man, he sure is an all time master of guitar

  • the thing i really like about EJ is that he can plays in so many idioms convincingly...his blues is really bluesy and his rockabilly, country jazz they all sound authentic and from the heart...amazing!

  • i agree.

  • He also has the best tone, and complete control of his guitar, whether it be ripping solos or soft melodies.

  • Easily one of the best guitarists alive... He deserves so much more credit than he gets.

  • well said

  • Agreed. I appreciate John Mayer's playing but I feel he is way overrated as a guitarist/writer while EJ gets little recognition for his vast catalog of great music.

  • did any one notice he improvised the solo becouse the original needed the delay i think there was a problem with his delay

  • he improvises everything anyway, i've never seen two of the same versions of cliffs of dover

  • This is the worst i have ever seen him play and yet it's still better than 99% of anyone who plays guitar.

  • its because hes singing which he doesnt usually do, and its more like 99.999%

  • hm, but I like this performance very much

  • MONSTROUS!!!!!!!!!!

  • Too bad though, that he screw up a couple of times.

Or actually pretty many times. But that offcourse doesn't meant that he's a bad guitarist. He's one of the worlds best, hell yeah! =)

  • this guy plays the stratocaster almost clear thats why hes having a little hard time..he could ve put a hell of distortions and make a show but he prefered that.respect

  • fucking awesome guitarist, one of the finest shredders out there

  • wow first time i hear eric johnson playing without delay and reverb

  • i'm telling my brother to download his album. he's a great guitar player. and they thought he could sing. even better, guitar playing too. ya know how hard that is? ithis guy is awesome

  • howlin woof huh...i wonder if thats anything like howlin wolf haha i didnt know eric johnson was a good ol boy

  • I totally love eric johnson but that is one of the least enjoyable live performances of him i have seen! Tone not up to ususal scratch and playing just not as good as usual! just my opinion

  • Great Song, Great Guitar, Its all around Great!

  • two words guitar god

  • same licks? more like a musical signature. all famous musicians have signature licks and techniques. still, eric is one of the most diverse artists.

  • And He Can Sing Too! Even More Sexy

  • Sorry to say it, but that dude is 53 years old. He looks like a kid but he probably has grandkids.

  • That drummer is fucking awesome!!!

  • tommy. tommy told stories about when christopher cross had the hits, the crowd was so loud you could hardly hear the music on stage while telling. i.e. "popular"

  • should read "while playing" the crowd was so loud they could hardly hear themselves play. yep. verbatim from tommy.

  • I cant see why more people aren't fans of this guy, hes an incredible musician, good singer, writes well, all the necessary parts to music success, but for some reason its hard to find somebody who knows who he is.

  • True that.

  • I got to meet him a couple of times. He's just a guy who happens to have an insane dedication to guitar playing. Once I figured that out I appreciated him even more, because I was able to see myself attaining those same goals someday before I die.

  • @81broncoman I think it's because EJ doesn't release albums that often and doesn't make a huge presence out of himself; he's humble. His music is still amazing though.

  • @81broncoman You forgot the most important part of success. Being a shitty disposable pop star. He's too good for that :P

  • killer!

  • dang... he rocks so much in live...but would sounded better with echoo like jesdome said...

  • EJ's voice & unique strat tone, his Marshall full stack & Fender combos, solid drum n'bass playing, the song, even his shirt... EVERYTHING here is BEAUTIFUL, wish i could have been there to witness it.. :D

  • now, while I agree with most of what you said... that shirt is absolutely hideous, it's just beyond words, I cannot stress this enough, my eyes are hurting, but my ears are loving

  • The shirt is awesome.. I'm right, your wrong ^_^

    No question about it...

(yes.. I can say so.. because I can delete every post that doesn't satisfy my egocentric point of view ^_^)

  • Wow, EJ with NO ECHO, no reverb anmd no Chorus.

First time in 20+ years of hearing him play that I have ever seen that!

  • OMG! The harmonic at 2:24ish

  • gah.... over exaggerating?

  • HIS SHIRT IS SEXY

  • Thats my son inlaw!! lol jk i wish

  • hes seems really like a nice guy!

  • He's actually a pretty good singer too, most great guitarists can't sing to save their lives. This guy is truly great.

  • so true!

  • Eric Johnson is a guitar god!!

  • eric is truly a god among men and this video clearly demonstrates it

  • This has great definition, and I dont know if he wrote this, but if he did its great, i wish i had that guitar...

  • Wow that was REALLY good.

  • lol it probably got deleted b/c this is copyright....

  • This one did not get deleted..
