Can't believe anyone thinks Eric played badly here. Great singing (I wish he would sing more), great playing. Eric experiments with different scales, and if you think he is playing "sloppily" here, you need to study music a bit more.
@cockdumpster chill out dude, and dont call my gf bitch okey, she is only 16. by the way i am big fan of eric johnson and i just wanted to add some imagination behind the scene
@locoboxspaceship The Notes sound "funny" because your ears may not be trained to the scales Eric is using. It's interesting that there are many ways guitarists use scales that sound very off, but the music makes sense. He also may be using things like pinch harmonics , I just enjoy it for what it is
Eric is tonal purist with classic style . I'd listened to vai and satriani before i heard this guy.....and i was like....wow , why does his guitar tone , sound so wide open and full of character,,,,,,turn the mids up kid , oh and fender and marshall been humpin forra while now,,,,,i love his clean tone.... just like ringin a bell
@420pabst that tone is something that I as a classical musician love about Johnson. It is something that we have lost in modern music since the 1950's in my opinion. Electric instruments are not suppose to cover up a bad player, they should be used to make a good one more versatile.
@Acer6828 7 string strats don't exist as far as I know. i don't think you could call it a strat if it had 7 strings and EJ is a purist as far as that sort of thing goes. he's just a hell of a guitar player
@irollemphat yeh, unfortunately they do and it was pig ugly to look at and worse to play (I have enough on with 6 stings!) Google it, its not a pretty guitar, looks all out of proportion.
I would give my left testicle to have my bass guitar sound as crunchy and wonderful as Chris Marosh's bass in this video. Love the old basses with the horseshoe pick ups!!. The bass stand out at 4:47 is enough to keep my rocks off!!!
@pierolivier111 sorry man, but however good a guitarist he might be, ev en though he sings in key, his voice sounds like SHIT. just my opinion though. flame me at will.
@blacktarantulaX The 88 show was played on his '54 Strat named Virginia... G3 as well I believe. He stop playing it because he dropped it. He sold it, a decision I think he regrets.
If you look closer that is regular cable, but it's wrapped around guitar belt.Guitar players do that bcs if they accidentally step on it during the play,it won't plug off
Oh yeah I see it. Someone told me that there are these things that are like chordless plug in thingies that you use instead of a cable so you don't have to worry about the chord hanging out, so I thought Erick Johnson might be using that! lol
ok... is that john C. Reiley on drums :S cuz it looks a damn lot like him, and i just watched step brothers and he was playin in that haha. (probably special effects but it still looks like hiim here ^ )
John C Riley actually plays the drums in step brothers, plus you know the movie walk hard a duey cocks story he plays all of the songs with a live band and went on a duey cocks tour playing all the songs from the movie.
the thing i really like about EJ is that he can plays in so many idioms convincingly...his blues is really bluesy and his rockabilly, country jazz they all sound authentic and from the heart...amazing!
Agreed. I appreciate John Mayer's playing but I feel he is way overrated as a guitarist/writer while EJ gets little recognition for his vast catalog of great music.
this guy plays the stratocaster almost clear thats why hes having a little hard time..he could ve put a hell of distortions and make a show but he prefered that.respect
i'm telling my brother to download his album. he's a great guitar player. and they thought he could sing. even better, guitar playing too. ya know how hard that is? ithis guy is awesome
I totally love eric johnson but that is one of the least enjoyable live performances of him i have seen! Tone not up to ususal scratch and playing just not as good as usual! just my opinion
tommy. tommy told stories about when christopher cross had the hits, the crowd was so loud you could hardly hear the music on stage while telling. i.e. "popular"
