always wondered why i was attracted to her when i was a child in the 60's..... :) i think she was not given enough credit for her skills, in a 'plastic' world of hollywood -
Nancy may have been ahead of her time. Today her look might be classified as "geek chic". I've always suspected that beneath that "prim and proper" look, "Miss Jane" might be hiding a somewhat powerful sexual dynamic (and. yes, I am aware of her supposed sexual proclivities, but fooey on those who denigrate her for that). And who can deny the attraction of a brilliantly intelligent woman, even one of average/modest looks, to those who appreciate such attributes.
Wow! I know she must be my type!! Cause seeing her try to seduce Bob really turns me on!! I'd do her! I'd really, really do her!! I'd let her do me too! = )
What's the matter with Bob?! He has no idea what he's missing!
In case no one knows, the actor with Nancy in this clip is Robert Montgomery who worked with hitchcock in films like Mr. and Mrs. Smith with Carole Lombard and Sabotuer.
"Kulp was diagnosed with cancer in 1990, and underwent chemotherapy, which weakened her system. By 1991, the cancer had spread, and Kulp died on February 2 at a friend's home in Palm Desert, California, aged 69. Though Kulp was married for ten years to Charles Dacus, at the age of 67, she admitted to being a lesbian saying in response to the question: "Do you find that opposites attract?" "I find that birds of a feather flock together"Nancy Kulp was Arsenio Hall's first guest on his show."
She's from Pennsylvania, but she has clearly cultivated a dialect from the Ivy league schools that are mostly in the northeastern U.S. --Kate Hepburn and Orson Welles both cultivated it too; it's sort of half way between British and American.
Also, Yes she could do drama too. Check her out in "Shane" or "The 3 Faces of Eve", both where she played the protagonist's mother
I love her speaking voice. Rather posh & elegant with a rich timbre. Bostonian? New England? As an Australian,I'm no good at identifying regional American accents. Where's she from?
It's so amazing to think she used to live only a minute away from me and is buried only a few minutes. Definitely inspiring to see an actress that made it that came from such a small area.
Please, young dolts...that Nancy Culp was a lesbian, or homely, is one thing...but she was mainly a highly polished character actress who never lacked for work on TV's best programs. THAT'S what we adults remember her for.
Cummings wasn't gay, you fag. He had seven kids and five wives (not all at once, of course), Typical pervert lie about someone who can't defend themselves.
ive always dreamed of reshooting pulp fiction and casting an all lesbo cast....id have miss jane and ellen degeneres playing zed and maynard and have star jones getting strapped on...that real ugly butch thing thats doing lindsay lohan could be the gimp.....id be rich!!!! much better movie than jen aniston and a dog....jeezy wizz!!!
chuggachuggawoowoo, you don't have any idea what you're talking about. Your crudness bespeaks of your ignorance. Please take your shallow, mainstream ideas elsewhere, hamster boy.
I can't believe people were surprised when she admitted she was a lesbian. I knew she was a dyke when I watched the Beverly Hillbillies as a kid. Seriously, look at her...she has carpet-muncher written all over her. Also, no man in his right mind would have sex with that. I'll bet she had a hard time acting that she wanted Jethro, when she really wanted to jump Ellie May. I don't think even Duke the hound dog would have banged her.
Nancy's character, "Pamela Livingston", was very similar to "Jane Hathaway" on "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES" because Paul Henning was responsible for creating and writing both....right down to those bird-watching uniforms they occcasionally wore! Paul KNEW what great comic nuances and timing Nancy had...
I can't help but wonder what it would be like to be a Tufted Titmouse on the wall during a meeting between Allyce Beasley and Nancy Kulp! What wonderful polarities of hilarities would we witness?

Nancy Culp was an off-beat Genius. From the same planet as Adam West, Roger Bowen... They were different.

Wow, I didn't know David Bowie worked in American TV in the mid '50s.

"And you say this girl is definitely interested in bird-watching" Audience laughs. Naughty audience.

And of course, she was Miss Jane Hathaway in The Beverly Hillbillies. She provided some wonderful humor in both these shows!

Pretty good. What's with Nancy Kulp putting her hand up at 1:49? Odd gesture. Absolute most favourite part at 3:46! Rofl!

Kulp was an extremely versitile actress that could do comedy as well as drama. She could play characters that were sophisticated or ignorant.

There's also the less obvious humor (at least for 1950s audiences) that this is a real-life lesbian flirting with a real-life gay man.
Fictitiously flirting, of course.
