Louise Dearman is clearly made for the part of Glinda, if you listen to Glinda in the film version of the Wizard of Oz, you can see Dearman has similar vocal tones, I think the Glinda in this video speaks far to quickly though on a positive note she is quite sweet and does some funny things. I do love Elphabas toss toss but she is far too smiley and seems like she's enjoying it, when she's supposed to be confused maybe. TUCKMAN ALL THE WAY! :)
I've got to say, I saw Wicked with Ashleigh Gray as Elphaba, and Dianne as Glinda. Dianne completely stole the show! Apparently the stage version of Wicked was written with Glinda as the main character, but when it was taken from paper and put on stage it ended up with Elphaba becoming the main character, but when I saw it Glinda was definitely the lead. I personally think she's the best Glinda so far (besides broadway), just because she completely makes the character her own! :)
Dianne Pilkington's voice changed throughout the performance - one of the ways she showed Glinda's maturing. Stop saying she's squeaky or annoying, she's intentionally doing it!
Just saw wicked last saturday - Dianne Pilkington was so much better than Gina Beck whose Glinda this year, Gina just plays Glinda pretty straight and she hardly got any laughs at all! Shame as its such a Girlie Role to sink your teeth into
Aww Dianne is so sweet and quirky :') Why do people have to criticise? Each actress adds their own personal touch to the role, Dianne's is the voice. If you listen to the video of her in Les Mis, you will hear her real voice. She still sings amazingly well in WICKED too, even with her squeaky voice, I think it's cute :) People should stop comparing Galindas, they should see why each Galinda is good and what individual aspect they bring to the role :D Dianne IS Ozsome ;) x
@jhgfvfdchgnbvh no they shouldn't.....if they play was in a foreign country and being played in a foreign accent would you expect them to sound american...no in america it should be acted in american....if in England it should be acted in British......cause in case you haven't noticed it is in fact set in OZ and since no one knows where Oz is it doesn't have any set accent!
@jhgfvfdchgnbvh If that were true, everyone is Les Miserables should have a french accent. Or Phantom of the opera. I doubt plays by Beckett or Brecht are always performed in the language they were first performed in. They have to take into account the people who are paying to see this when directing and casting and this fits.
@amylouise145 Those two haven't been on Wicked in like, 5 years. There's other Glindas and Elphabas, some better than the OBC pair. You'd do well to stop ignoring the lovely production of Wicked at the Victoria Apollo.
@amylouise145 You haven't heard Rachel sing then. Miss Tucker mops the floor with Ms. Asthma. This is Kerry Ellis not a prime example of West End unlike Rachel Tucker. Idina ain't even performing anymore so your lose if you're stuck thinking Idina is the best Elphie.
I personally think Dianne Pilkington is AMAZING at this song! Its perfectly portrayed - All Girlie & Squeaky! She's the best I've heard sing this :o) Plus her Vibrato is awesome!
this version sucks. its not that she is portraying the character a different way, or that she has a different accent, its that she is singing poorly. kristen is incredible and how you can prefer this over her is remarkably distasteful.
when i watch this, i see 'galinda the shallow rich girl who gets everything she wants' much different from when i watch kristen. when i watch kristen, i see more of the 'kristen the amazing actress who can sing' i love both of them, but i have to say, dianne is truly glinda
What's with all the hating? I really don't see what's wrong with this Glinda. So what if she's British? Everyone portrays a character differently. I personally like this one more.
"I hate her voice, she's too annoying", "she's loud", "she's squeaky" - Errr, that's the objective, isn't it? Every single Glinda is annoying in some way Listen to "What is this feeling?"; one of Elphaba's lines in this song is "[unalduterated loathing] for your voice!". Glinda is supposed to be annoying, just like that cheerleader in your class who was loud and squeaky and just couldn't shut up. Dianne is perfect! And she is hilarious *-*
Also Dianne Pilkington was the Longest running Glinda on the west end which to prove a point she is fantastic at the role, I saw her 5 times! She has now gone on to do bigger and better things, she has moved away from MT and gone onto Shows like 39 Steps at the Criterion Theatre!! Dianne Pilkington THE BEST WEST END GLINDA THERE WILL EVER BE!!!
Everyone who is saying she's awful obviously know nothing about theatre because Dianne Pilkington trained at GSA which is the top drama school for Musical Theatre, people such as Katie Rowley-Jones (original west end Nessarose) Caroline Sheen (Mary poppins on the first national tour of America and currently Fantine in the West end version of Les Mis) Daniel Boys, Caroline Keiff and ALOT more Musical Theatre performers have trained there.
@JennMRoxxxx Its an English accent!!!A british accent would be would be Scottish, english ,welsh and Northern Irish all at the same time! I do love dianne
Everyone who is writing she is awful are you stopping to think that this is what the character is meant to sing like dont judge Diane on this shes performing as Glinda not herself, Just chill :) x
Everyone who is writing she is awful are you stopping to think that this is what the character is meant to sing like dont judge Diane on this shes performing as Glinda not herself, Just chill :) x
the thing about glinda is that i think it helps if you don't like her voice. part of the whole idea of glinda is that she is that girl that is nice to everyone but you in high school, and really gets on your nerves (esp her voice), but she then turns into quite a nice young woman in the end
Great job. I think Dianne gave it her own special touches and made the character more goofy than Kristen's. Both ladies are derserving of the accolades they received.
Diane is absolutely amazing! She has a great way of portraying Glinda, all innocent and bubbly :) I love her and Kristen, and I don't find Diane's voice annoying, it suits her character perfectly. Also, I really don't think her accent makes a difference. It's to a British audience, and there is no specific accent for Glinda. If you don't like her, that's your opinion. :)
I love British accent! :) But it doesn't fit that good to Wicked.. and Dianne is awesome! She can sing and she can't do anything against that squeezy (?) sound in her voice so stop sayin you hate her voice, we understood it. if you got used to her voice you'll love it.
I saw Dianne live and she was awesome! She was funny and she really can sing. I know a lot of people think her voice is annoying, but it's fitting for Glinda if you ask me. Elphaba definitely wouldn't sound like that. Also, you have to keep in mind that the recording does make her voice sound different. She's actually a really great singer, really funny and awesome as Glinda.
I've seen her live an im brittosh so i have an unbiased opinion i think. She tries far to hard and it doesn't look effortless of realistic like Kristin. She's too annoying if you see her in defying grvity and for good she tries to over-shadow Kerry Ellis and it's not good. But i do prefer "toss, toss" to "you just flip it!"
I adore Dianne live, I'm not sure how many people saying they hate her voice have seen her play Galinda on stage, but I hated her voice before I saw her live. I had judged her by YouTube videos as having an unbearable voice, but honestly, so much better where it's meant to be.
see, the thing is, British people always sound smart, and g(a)linda is a suposed to be dumb. So, it doesnt make sense to americans. But to a british audience, yeah its perfectly fine.
@pokamonmaster1997 Not true at all!!! Not everyone should have an american accent. She is playing to a British Audience. There is no context to suggest that any accent should be preffered. Her ditzy debutante behaviour is something a british audience can relate to. It would be contrived if they all had accents that weren't authentic. I adore the Broadway version obviously but Dianne Pilkington plays the character well and voice suits the persona that has been created.
@gill2711 well, all im not racist most my friends arew black and my username was created over howmany years ago when i used to like pokemon and i misspelled it and not liking british people isn't racist. @pokamonmaster1997 To tell the truth I prefer the English accent and the London production to broadway. I love broadway but I aaaaaadore how Helen Louise and Dianne portray Glinda. She is a posh, rich, spoilt girl who go's to the poshest most expensive school in the country. In america she is different
fantastic!! i've been in london @ the Apollo Victoria Theatre , there was another girl performing GAAAAAlinda, i think she will be the best GAAAAAlinda ever! unfortunately i don't know what's her name =( aniway they are both super ;) ;) ;)
@CorporalCorny2 I know but she puts on a bad american accent. She is amazing with her own voice. I think all glinda's should use there own accent unless it is, like Diannes ,to character.
All of us can love every Galinda/Glinda there was. Because they were all spectacular without people having to go and criticize everything they do. You like an actress more than the others that is fine, just don't disregard all the others.
the first time i saw this video i nearly died laughing ! i don't find dianne's voice annoying ......in fact i love it! i adore the innocent way she portrays galinda! she is so bubbly and i adore her squels and screams! anyone who dislikes her go talk to my sis! DIANNE PILKINGTON IS THE BEST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!LOL!!!!!!!
IF you dont like her as a glinda why dont you watch someone you DO. this is one of her earliest performances and not one of her best.anyone who likes her should watch her performance on THIS MORNING. shes a bit tired because she had to do this 8 days a week , but apart from that shes amazing! please dont judge her on this performance. DIANNE PILKINGTON ROCKS!!!

@williambynum07 Personally I adore her voice when she is Galinda and first half glinda. After that it does annoy me a bit. You should hear Lucy Duracks voice though. Squeky bad american accents are not good. Lucys still a good glinda.
I really dont understand how anyone cant love Dianne :D I saw her near the end of her run, and she was immense. You'd think after three years in the same role you'd be a bit tired of it, but she was completely convincing, note perfect and hilarious throughout. I very rarely LOL at shows or TV, or films, but she had me in tears from start to finish, no lie!
I've only seen bits and pieces on YT but I reckon Kerry, Dianne and Oliver made a 'wicked' team. I enjoyed Dianne's Glinda, it's somewhat very similar to how Lucy Durack (from Australia) portrayed Glinda.
i think that kristin chenoweth has better voice and i am both british and american.dianne is good! iam not implying that she is not...its just my opinion!
The current Glinda is Louise Dearman and Rahcel Tucker in London - but Dianne was awesome - she was the longest serving Glinda ever - her voice is a stage voice and her comic timing was soooooo good - miss her!
@ravidraven87 No she's not. Cheno is kind of boring.............all of the new Glindas are much more interesting. Natalie Daradich, Helene Yorke, Katie Rose Clarke, Alli Mauzey, etc...................all better than Cheno :P
I saw Wicked in London but with different people, It was actually really good, I've seen the one in NY and then went to London and saw this one.. But the one who played Glinda well the whole cast spoke more American like. Haha.
@YoJeeves Her voice isn't like that at all in real life, it's stunning. She just used to put it on for the role of Glinda, and to be honest, it fits the way she plays the role perfectly! She smoothened her voice out later on into playing the role, as her inturptitation matured, I guess.
I saw her live, and she instantly became my favourite Glinda ever. Love her <3
I hate how everyone in the comments is like "I'm American and I prefer ____." Which actress you like best doesn't depend on whether you're American, British or whatever. Personally, I prefer Kristen Chenowith and don't like Dianne Pilkington, but the fact that I'm British makes absolutely no difference to that opinion.
@crazykookies1 The part was written for Kristen. She owned this part. Theres other Glindas that came close to owning the character like Kristen. CLOSE
I'm British and definatly prefer Chenoweth, Pilkington is good and I really disliked Hilty's interpretation but it's all opinion. Schwartz's G(a)linda was created with Chenoweth in mind which is why, as far as I am concerned is "is" Glinda. However, I do respect that other performers cannot copy her style and need to find their own way to portray the character.
I love Kristin Chenoweth and I think she did an amazing job. But I like watching all the different Galindas (who are all really good) because everyone does it a bit differently. Dianne is awesome in her own way :)
there's no denying that Kristin's voice is amazing and she did really 'make' the role of Glinda but Pilkers is just so much more entertaining as an actor and she is the complete package.

i am amazed at all the recordings on here some just sound recording and and lots of videos, all recorded inside the Apollo Vic, You all know dam well you should not be recording while the show is on, you'r taking the magic out of the show, And you won't get away with it from end of april, You have now love for the show or the actors in it if you do this.
OR . . .
All of us can love every Galinda/Glinda there was. Because they were all spectacular without people having to go and criticize everything they do. You like an actress more than the others that is fine, just don't disregard all the others.
Yeah, just had to put that out there. :)

DIANNE PILKINGTON ROCKS!!!

i hate glindas voice it's too squikey
williambynum07 1 year ago
@williambynum07 Personally I adore her voice when she is Galinda and first half glinda. After that it does annoy me a bit. You should hear Lucy Duracks voice though. Squeky bad american accents are not good. Lucys still a good glinda.

but then i got really into it and thought it suited her character :)

I really dont understand how anyone cant love Dianne :D I saw her near the end of her run, and she was immense. You'd think after three years in the same role you'd be a bit tired of it, but she was completely convincing, note perfect and hilarious throughout. I very rarely LOL at shows or TV, or films, but she had me in tears from start to finish, no lie!
mistermanish 1 year ago 2
I've only seen bits and pieces on YT but I reckon Kerry, Dianne and Oliver made a 'wicked' team. I enjoyed Dianne's Glinda, it's somewhat very similar to how Lucy Durack (from Australia) portrayed Glinda.

ekeiram00 1 year ago 4
The current Glinda is Louise Dearman and Rahcel Tucker in London - but Dianne was awesome - she was the longest serving Glinda ever - her voice is a stage voice and her comic timing was soooooo good - miss her!

I saw Wicked in London but with different people, It was actually really good, I've seen the one in NY and then went to London and saw this one.. But the one who played Glinda well the whole cast spoke more American like. Haha.

LOL, she was really funny, but the ditzy blonde american accent just fit more for the role of glinda

YoJeeves 1 year ago
@YoJeeves haaa shes doing her job right then xD
G(a)linda's meant to be really reallly reallly annoying
GagaMonster1000 1 year ago
@YoJeeves Her voice isn't like that at all in real life, it's stunning. She just used to put it on for the role of Glinda, and to be honest, it fits the way she plays the role perfectly! She smoothened her voice out later on into playing the role, as her inturptitation matured, I guess.
I saw her live, and she instantly became my favourite Glinda ever. Love her <3
Merina2222 1 year ago
shes kind of funny, and has the squeal down.

she is by far tho most bubbly galinda :)
sportyreb12 1 year ago 2
I hate how everyone in the comments is like "I'm American and I prefer ____." Which actress you like best doesn't depend on whether you're American, British or whatever. Personally, I prefer Kristen Chenowith and don't like Dianne Pilkington, but the fact that I'm British makes absolutely no difference to that opinion.

@RawrFunkyLlama8 and I realise I spelt Kristin Chenoweth wrong... >_<

Im gonna have to say, shes good(: But Kristen Chenoweth's version is better. I love Kristen(:

BearcatWizard 1 year ago
I'm British and definatly prefer Chenoweth, Pilkington is good and I really disliked Hilty's interpretation but it's all opinion. Schwartz's G(a)linda was created with Chenoweth in mind which is why, as far as I am concerned is "is" Glinda. However, I do respect that other performers cannot copy her style and need to find their own way to portray the character.

Dianne was only like this for a short time. If you watch her latest videos she speaks with her normal voice which is so much better.
boffinme80 1 year ago
I love Kristin Chenoweth and I think she did an amazing job. But I like watching all the different Galindas (who are all really good) because everyone does it a bit differently. Dianne is awesome in her own way :)

I usually like Dianne a lot, but this preformance is... bad...
Lorzaliiez 1 year ago
there's no denying that Kristin's voice is amazing and she did really 'make' the role of Glinda but Pilkers is just so much more entertaining as an actor and she is the complete package.
oh... and DAllimore sucks!!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
i am amazed at all the recordings on here some just sound recording and and lots of videos, all recorded inside the Apollo Vic, You all know dam well you should not be recording while the show is on, you'r taking the magic out of the show, And you won't get away with it from end of april, You have now love for the show or the actors in it if you do this.
gonefishingwithjw 1 year ago
@gonefishingwithjw:
I fail to see how recording some sound and images is "taking the magic out of the show".
