Hmm I don't know. I added a response but it did not seem to register and I can't redo do it for some reason. You tried to make a response to my vid aswell?
I got a message that I had to approve your response, but when I went to my inbox it was not there. This normally only happens if people try to make their video a response to more than one video. I've already made my video a response to Lew Dite's rendition of the song, otherwise I'd link it to yours, which I like very much.
Thanks, Lew. Somebody has marked your comment as Spam - a bit ironic, considering I've made this a video response to yours. Any idea how I can change that? Clicking "Not Spam" doesn't seem to work.
Yes, Kwan. Woody Guthrie did indeed adapt the melody of "Pretty Polly" for "Pastures of Plenty". I forgot to mention this in the information box, but I'll add it now. Thanks for reminding me. Of course, Dylan sang Guthrie's song as well as "Pretty Polly" so perhaps he had both in mind when he wrote "Hollis Brown".
Thanks, David. You probably know Woody Guthrie's "Pastures of Plenty" and Dylan's "Ballad of Hollis Brown," both of which use this tune. The tune of the English version is quite different from this one - as well as having about thirty more verses.
Nice work Raymond

Ah that explains it. If you decide to make a murder ballad of your own let me know and perhaps I can make an animation?

I think the closest I've come is my song "The Collector", based on Fowles' novel.
The video response worked that time! Thanks for linking it to mine.

Even stranger is that Ennio Morricone adapted Pastures of Plenty into the fistful of dollars theme!

This is one of those songs that never ceases to fascinate me. Great version Raymond, for it retains the haunting feel of the ballad.

When I first saw this, I thought it would be 'Pretty Polly Oliver', a watered down version of which was featured in the schools' folk book.
i love your guitar in this - mellow.
Great show, Raymond.
