How did that Dell work out for ya? They suck...not really upgradeable, proprietary parts, usually little or no overclocking capability, and pray that you NEVER have to call customer service...they export all of their support to other countries who take a million years and just don't get it. Dell was great 8-10 years ago. I built a much faster, better, high end computer for much less than what Dell could do..I ordered a high end XPS computer and it was not upgradeable at all.

ATI are awesome cards. I like Nvidia too especially the GTX 460 1GB. But I reckon the GTX 470 and 480 are too high priced and run too damn hot for my liking. my ATI card doesnt exceed 49 degrees max load when gaming and idles from 24-29 degrees Celsius.

Speaking as An Nvidia Fan, Will say that the 480 is a FAIL. Atone point at January they claimed it would have 20% more performance over the 5870.

What do we see today a hot ,buggy ,Power hungry and Mega expensive Card Chocking on the 5870s dust, After i saw the 480s pathetic benches, even i went and ordered myself a 5870. for the price of 1 480 , I can almost get 2 5870s.

This will be my first Ati Purchase.

Nvidia can suck my balls. I have replaced the old 8800 GTS with an ATI 5870.

The 8800 were bad becuse: In Farcry, C&C Generals and Supreme Commander 2 the colours were fucked up. In Far Cry the grass were black and in C&C Generals and Supreme Commander 2 the screen became completely black. And I got the latest drivers installed. And they are renaming their cards all the time.

Its by far the fastest card. Unfortunately. The Driver support means I cant use them properly. 10.2 is a total disaster. ATI seem to be going backwards since christmas. Enhancing driver support by removing manual features and for many of actually ensuring we cant properly use crossfire properly. Is a brilliant fast piece of hardware. Using it is a problem as too often the drivers prevent it working properly.

And maybe put the overclock settings a little back .

you need a lot ofreading on it.

and a monitor program to check the voltages and cpu temp

you can overclock by raising the frequency of the cpu bit by bit .

while minitoring the temp

the memory frequency you should let auto

sometimes you can go higher by raising the vcore voltage a bit too.

but you really need to monitor thatin a program.

GTX 480 conpetes with ATI 5000 series. GTX 680 will be what goes up against the 6870.

Now that the GTX 480 is out despite being very late, it is actually better than the 5870. It is also sadly extremely overprices and hot haha. In my opinion this generation sucks.

I have a 5870, Intel Quad Core 2.93 Ghz (4 CPUs), 12 GB RAM, and run crysis max settings. I get no lockups, no freezing, no lines across screen, and framerate is always above 27 no matter what. I've never had it dip below 20 if that helps lol. Amazing game, but WARHEAD definitely better optimized.

dx10 and dx 11 isnt comparable in a brawn over brawn competition, it is in a brain over brain competition.

dx11 makes computing easier by using tesselation, yes, also in non dx11 games, ok not fully the same results if it wouldve been a dx11 game

Uh, how would that make any difference if the DX11 instructionset isn't being used? DX10 is DX10, the available instructions are set per standard. Tesselation is not available in DX10 and would not make computing any easier as the amount of polygons in the source material is the same. The extra polygon calculations would only drop the performance more. Tesselation does not improve basic performance, it just reduces the performance loss compared to adding polygons to the source material.

Exactly, basically even though ATi made some big bucks with the 5000s, it's still a mistake to release early. What I'm saying is if they put in more effort and time in producing and making the card better. Nvidia has taken that time to release the GT300, twice as much shaders as the GT200, almost twice as faster as well. Or hell, even more. It's like releasing 295 again a year or so.

Truely amazing video cards there! I didn't know the 5870 would come close to the 295 but it officially beat it by tens of fps all of the time!

2:24 - Radeon 5870 CPU usage: 26%; GTX295 CPU usage 79%. That's a great result for such a processor hungry game, the 5870 not only beats the 295 but it even takes load off the processor! ATi have made a great comeback!

Actually if you knew much you'd realize that the 295 is shwing so much cpu usage because the crds are memy challenged.. The 295 only has 768 MB on board, so there is alot of swapping from G-Ram to SYS-ram going on. Hence the CPU utilization. I've got 2 295's in quad SLI and fully acknowledge that NV was really dumb for not having 1GB per GPU min. the 2GB 285's are even better simply because of the additional ram. However throw additional effects at the 295's and you'll see them pull ahead.
