i watched the entire series posted here, wasnt a wasted night for sure. ol boy seemed like hed been a good one ta make a few stories with.
now im havin a problem figurin what the middle barrel does exactly. whats in it, or even what it does. an were they throwin water in the mix in number 10 video?
@staticminded It's called the stump keg, or thump/thumper keg, its purpose is to prevent excess mash or water getting to the condenser or "worm". Its filled with "backings" or the watery, weak stuff you get when the still is winding down(saved from the previous batch). The heat in the steam evaporates more alcohol from the backings, and the cold backings condense the water from the boiler=more alcohol going to the worm! Why add water after? Makes it taste better, and you get more!!
When me and my friends started to drink in our youth here in Norway, we drank moonshine 180 proof. Or 96% as we called it with our metric system hehe. There`s almost no moonshining going on anymore. People are becoming more and more brainwashed by the government, and it`s sadly the same worldwide.
ATTENTION: I WANT TO ISSUE A WARNING. WITHOUT GOING THROUGH PROPER LEGAL CHANNELS IT IS AGAINST FEDERAL LAW TO DISTILL LIKKER. FEDERAL OVER-RIDES STATE. don't be a victim. the key word is DISTILL. u can make beer and wine but its just like food u cant run a burger join without permits and paying taxes. PLEASE HEED THIS. the law loosened the restriction on what is used to make wiskey. jim beam and jack daniels uses stainless steel copper has to be cleaned alot or u will kill people.
We have exactly the same kind of problems in France and everywhere in the world, because some people want us to buy things we can repair or make ourself. They want us to drink chinese kids sweat, and tell us this is whiskey, and they sell chinese kids clothes made of dog shit, and tell them it's fashion style. I've seen people like Sutton here, in France, and in other countries. The problem is international trading and big trust, and rotten governements.
i just watched this whole thing and knowing that popcorn is no longer with us i find it kinda eerie and parts remind me if a suicide tape (i could be wrong but thats what i got from it) i dont want to start a fight and i agree with most people that we should be free to do what we want i saw nothing illegal and believe that the govt is wrong

Moonshiners - Popcorn Sutton - Ali Randolph & The Outta Luck Band - Music Video - Moonshine
I sure wish I had had the good luck to meet a truly great guy Popcorn Sutton. Is that really true tennessee made it now legal to make and sale moonshine??I did know another man who was not a Moonshiner but like Popcorn he was the last of his breed too.Thank you so much for making this video enjoyed it greatly. Thanks
man after i stumbled upon part of this series, I went back to the beginning and watched them all straight through, what an awesome production you guys thanks! awesome!
Just watched all 11 parts. Thanks for posting this. I have no idea what moonshine tastes like, but after watching this, I sure do want some. Looks delicious.
*sigh*.... am I the only one who STILL doesn't understand how this works? i saw the pbs special, then this.. I still don't understand. which is probably a good thing.. but i guess im slow..
Rip popcorn you were a great interesting man and you were a legend I wish I had the chance to meet you who ever fucked you over can burn in fucking hell rip your legend will live on forever
POPCORN'S LIKKER IS ON STORE SHELVES IN EAST TENNESSEE. It's produced by Popcorn's recipe and processed on custom-made copper stills designed by Popcorn himself. It's also worth mentioning, and this REALLY gets me, a change in Tennessee law has made it LEGAL to make and sell moonshine....
@232323232ism Mr.Sutton killed himself before his federal sentence. He's a true American hero, just goes to shows the feds always mess with the wrong people. Rip popcorn... "popcorn says fuck you"

@MrDuece3 Smokey mountain moonshine distiallry in gatlinburg Tn makes shine with popcorns recipe, $34 for a quart or clear, and 24 per quart for flavored, JB works their
@MrDuece3 Can't go beyond 200, on top of the fact that most moonshine will come out at 170 to 180. Then you temper it down from there. So really most true moonshine that you're buying is in the 80 to 120 range already.
WSK thank you so much for this and god bless Mr.Sutton and his partner J.B and the rest of his helpers what a blessing it was to watch such a legendary man in his fine art of stilling Likker, he seemed like such a neat old guy I would of liked to meet him .
Damn, thanks for posting these videos, Wildlife. Oh and for the cunts that snitched on Mr. Sutton... FUCK YOU - you bastards are the downfall of this country.
Popcorn Sutton killed himself (age 63) to avoid a lengthy federal prison sentence for brewing his liquor. Bocephus is apparently trying to legalize Popcorn's recipe.
For the last year I have been watching moonshine videos on here and researching how moonshining came about. The only message I get from watching and reading about this is one thing. People who do this it's a source of income I say so what if they do. But most importantly it is about one thing FREEDOM to do things that your ancestors did. Remember Freedom is ours to lose. Popcorn stood tall like every American should . Cheers to you POPCORN!
@Kliffswifey and a statement like that makes you a exspert on the subject,,, i think not....! you don't know the differance between proof a percent%,, pure alchol is 200 proof, has nothing to do with percents %, thay make it pure then cut it for drinking, it's cut with spring water, you can't drink pure 200 proof alchol it will poision you....! and bercardys 150 rum is 150 proof... check it out for yourself if you don't beleave me...!
im from scotland and i really really enjoyed this movie though i dont think much of the wanker who clicked the dislike button. maybe he was pissed on some moonshine and hit the wrong button. POPCORN will fogive ya just this once. R.I.P.
Damn that was a awsome documentary....This is very normal in my country. The best shine you ever would taste are made here. Also in a old way like this. Its so many diffrent ways to make it.And that old man was a very cool guy..Why diddent the us goverment leave this man alone. What harm did he do to other people?.He was to old for jail and did make real good shine. That i could see .I could almoust smell it watching this..wish i could taste that final product..btw its not hard at all to make this.
the goverment locks you up if you don't give them money for every dollar you make and every dollar you spend and you dummys actually like it ....wow...you love your freedom.haha.suckers. when somebody else does that its called extortion and you go to jail for it cause they want to be the only ones that can
That was a great documentary about a man just trying to make it through the depression best way possible thanks for videoing this --Wish I could have shook his hand just to meet the legend .
WSK, Thank you for this. I have a funny sort of mixed feeling about it. I'm a law-and-order kind of person, and a near tee-totaller, but....
Damn. This is frigging HISTORY right here, older than a lot of countries, and some mountains.
And I remember something about "go and sin no more." Well, there's no way he was ever going to do it again... Why not let him go home and die in peace among his cats? God rest his soul...
@WildlifeSeriaLKiller this is a really stupid question but what is the basic recipie, and the steps to make moonshine, its something ive been wanting to learn for a long time now
@WildlifeSeriaLKiller Almost speechless. A true “HERO” strives to be the best at no-matter what he does. Popcorn was a true American Folk Hero and Artisan. I love the way they gave up some time to that young girl. She sounded good. Hope she goes somewhere.
They didn’t kill him. They only made him stronger! That’s he and Ole’ Lucy’s heart beat in the tank! RIP Popcorn, the nosey ones get the pitchfork!
Rock out with your coon pecker out old man. True American. It should be your local store that's called Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms not a government agency. FUCK THE A.T.F. and all it's GOONS.
I'd give 1000 bucks for a jar of his last run... damn, RIP popcorn, damn ATF thanks for ruining living american history!!! hey does anyone know if the legal stuff they sell in gatlinburg at the tourist attraction is popcorns recipe like they are claiming?
@UncleJesseXXX hey bro I know what you mean, coming from the mountains of Grundy Va. Where coal miners and some of great moonshiners once walked the mountains. Also know for a fact that it is the same recipe but they ain't making right or the way Popcorn did
@UncleJesseXXX AFter reading up on the subject some more, It seems Hank Williams Jr and a few others got a legal liquor license and started recreating Mr. Sutton's recipe according to stills of his own design! Could be! We shall see!
@WildlifeSeriaLKiller The stuff in Gatlinburg is not Poprcorn's, it's a Sevier county recipe, but they are selling Popcorn's hooch. Check around on the web.
I attended the NASCAR race in March 2008 at Bristol Motor Speedway and was fortunate enough to get to taste some of Popcorn's moonshine. One of his close friends was with us and had brought some for us to try. He is a great piece of American history and obviously was a very intelligent man. Thanks for uploading this @WildlifeSeriaLKiller, awesome!
2:18 => "Them damn wild life will get drunk now by god. Damn thats heavy. Shew... Em birds buzzard or crows or whatever eats that there. That corns full of alcohol. They'll fly into one of them damn trees and bust their damn head."
This is the shit that makes me damn proud to be from the States. Popcorn done near inspired my yankee ass to go out in my backyard and start making my own shine. Great piece of American cinema.
Absolutly amazing. I love everything about this life style and the people in it. I hate it that the law wouldn't just leave this man alone. I never had the privalage to taste his liquor but how i wish I could have. Rest in peace popcorn.
Thanks for posting these, WSK. What a legend Popcorn was. The last link to the original moonshine masters, and a true, humble Southern hero. Born, bred, and died Dixie. Deo Vindice!
BTW, I'm in the Army, too. Eight years down, twelve to go. Born in Oklahoma, raised in Texas, stationed everywhere. Dixie is and always will be my true home. When I retire, as Jerry Reed would say, I'll be Texas bound and flyin'!
My great granddad and two great uncles on my dad's side and two great great uncles on my mom's side were moonshiners. Gives me an idea of how they made it.
I'm 50 now but if mom was still alive she would take a belt to me for enjoying this. hehe
shit it hurts me to see that slop get trowed out...i dont even make the stuff and it hurts me..lol.cant imagine what a guy that makes the stuff is feeling bout now..very cool thanks for the rest of this...likker to the end huh popcorn..screw um..
@QROdx Amen to that. It's ridiculous. It's legal to ferment in a barrel, but it's ILLEGAL to run through a still because Big Brother ain't gettin' his cut. Bunch of fuckers. While I do understand the dangers of distilling (i.e., stills blowing up, methanol production, etc) I think that it's stupid to regulate something people can manufacture in their own home LEGALLY. Although Popcorn got busted with over 800 gallons of shine... they tend to frown on that. Still bullshit though.
at 5:34 when he says he aint ever gonna make no more - it sounds exactly like the way my great grandmother would have said that! i miss the south so much!
@electronictrip Dude, where do you live? I couldn't imagine leaving the south again. I was an Infantryman in the US Army (I say "was" loosely. Once you get that blue cord, you're Infantry for LIFE.) and got stationed in Ft. Lewis WASHINGTON. I LIVE IN FLORIDA...lol. Have all my life. Did a bit of traveling. Rode across the US on a 68' Harley. Went to Alaska, Canada, CEN. America... But I came back to the South. COuldn't imagine life elsewhere...lol. Take care, bud.
@WildlifeSeriaLKiller I am the same way...I live about an hour and a half from where they are at in the Smokies..I love Tennessee. I can easily leave for a vacation but before too long Im always ready to come home
@WildlifeSeriaLKiller There was a piece in the Tennessean newpaper about a guy being taught by JB and Popcorn the proper and best way to make moonshine, and I think Hank Jr was one of the investors also. The article didn't mention the name of the business, but it is located in Nashville, TN. My ex-fiance had family heritage in making moonshine and had a still on the property, her dad was Scottish, and from Tampa..and good shine burns from the stomach coming up not from the mouth going down.
i watched the entire series posted here, wasnt a wasted night for sure. ol boy seemed like hed been a good one ta make a few stories with.

@pjicleanair420 its not that i want to sell it, its just the heritage of making it, if you know what im saying lol.

UncleJesseXXX 7 months ago 12
@UncleJesseXXX Doubt it. VERY HIGHLY doubt it. And I bet it ain't made anywhere NEAR the same way.
WildlifeSeriaLKiller 7 months ago
@UncleJesseXXX Only way it will be close is if J.B Rader is making it.
WildlifeSeriaLKiller 7 months ago
@UncleJesseXXX hey bro I know what you mean, coming from the mountains of Grundy Va. Where coal miners and some of great moonshiners once walked the mountains. Also know for a fact that it is the same recipe but they ain't making right or the way Popcorn did
huntin4live 7 months ago
@UncleJesseXXX AFter reading up on the subject some more, It seems Hank Williams Jr and a few others got a legal liquor license and started recreating Mr. Sutton's recipe according to stills of his own design! Could be! We shall see!
WildlifeSeriaLKiller 6 months ago 7
@WildlifeSeriaLKiller The stuff in Gatlinburg is not Poprcorn's, it's a Sevier county recipe, but they are selling Popcorn's hooch. Check around on the web.
jollygreenspartan 5 months ago

I attended the NASCAR race in March 2008 at Bristol Motor Speedway and was fortunate enough to get to taste some of Popcorn's moonshine. One of his close friends was with us and had brought some for us to try. He is a great piece of American history and obviously was a very intelligent man. Thanks for uploading this @WildlifeSeriaLKiller, awesome!

Absolutly amazing. I love everything about this life style and the people in it. I hate it that the law wouldn't just leave this man alone. I never had the privalage to taste his liquor but how i wish I could have. Rest in peace popcorn.
winston393 11 months ago
Thanks for posting these, WSK. What a legend Popcorn was. The last link to the original moonshine masters, and a true, humble Southern hero. Born, bred, and died Dixie. Deo Vindice!
BTW, I'm in the Army, too. Eight years down, twelve to go. Born in Oklahoma, raised in Texas, stationed everywhere. Dixie is and always will be my true home. When I retire, as Jerry Reed would say, I'll be Texas bound and flyin'!
69HemiGTX 11 months ago
My great granddad and two great uncles on my dad's side and two great great uncles on my mom's side were moonshiners. Gives me an idea of how they made it.
I'm 50 now but if mom was still alive she would take a belt to me for enjoying this. hehe

shit it hurts me to see that slop get trowed out...i dont even make the stuff and it hurts me..lol.cant imagine what a guy that makes the stuff is feeling bout now..very cool thanks for the rest of this...likker to the end huh popcorn..screw um..

Thanks for taking the time to get these up WSK.
There will never be another one like Popcorn.
It's a damn shame a man has to kill himself just so the government will leave him and his family alone.
QROdx 1 year ago
@QROdx Amen to that. It's ridiculous. It's legal to ferment in a barrel, but it's ILLEGAL to run through a still because Big Brother ain't gettin' his cut. Bunch of fuckers. While I do understand the dangers of distilling (i.e., stills blowing up, methanol production, etc) I think that it's stupid to regulate something people can manufacture in their own home LEGALLY. Although Popcorn got busted with over 800 gallons of shine... they tend to frown on that. Still bullshit though.

at 5:34 when he says he aint ever gonna make no more - it sounds exactly like the way my great grandmother would have said that! i miss the south so much!
electronictrip 1 year ago
@electronictrip Dude, where do you live? I couldn't imagine leaving the south again. I was an Infantryman in the US Army (I say "was" loosely. Once you get that blue cord, you're Infantry for LIFE.) and got stationed in Ft. Lewis WASHINGTON. I LIVE IN FLORIDA...lol. Have all my life. Did a bit of traveling. Rode across the US on a 68' Harley. Went to Alaska, Canada, CEN. America... But I came back to the South. COuldn't imagine life elsewhere...lol. Take care, bud.

@BONESANDDONES JB will keep making it.....
WildlifeSeriaLKiller 1 year ago 7
@WildlifeSeriaLKiller There was a piece in the Tennessean newpaper about a guy being taught by JB and Popcorn the proper and best way to make moonshine, and I think Hank Jr was one of the investors also. The article didn't mention the name of the business, but it is located in Nashville, TN. My ex-fiance had family heritage in making moonshine and had a still on the property, her dad was Scottish, and from Tampa..and good shine burns from the stomach coming up not from the mouth going down.
