  • I like it!

  • This is an AWESOME Stretch!!! Thank U ;-)

  • Thank you - that will really help me with my current hip challenge. I have been stretching and tapping , and it's improved about 60%, now just need that 40% more :-)

  • completely off-topic, but this guy got really fat if you compare this video to his newer ones... O_o

  • I have had severe Sciatica due to an L5/S1 disc bulge. My pain kept me from exercising, which I think weakened my piriformis. My leg/foot was going numb, and I've had serious pain near hip, buttock and upper thigh. Doing a variation of this stretch where I put the lead arm back and out on the painful side, and then almost sitting back onto the pain, and this I believe has not fixed everything, but has kept away the leg numbness and severe leg pain. I scoured the internet looking for helpful

  • es zieht ist aber cool

  • Dear Mr. Tuminello,

In your article, what do you mean with posterior hip capsule? are you talking about the capsule or the three big ligaments?

How is the posterior capsule stretched by outward rotation and abduction? this would shorten the posterior aspect and lengthen the anterior one.

  • Above 60 deg. (of hip flex) m. piriformis is a internal rotator.

  • as far as i know piriformis is an external rotator of the hip.. this is its main job.. to stretch piriformis you would do the opposite of its main action and therefore place the hip into internal rotation.. in the video you are externally rotating the hip and surely shortening piriformis, not lengthening/stretching it? would you agree?

  • @cbb7uk . You are absolutely correct. Although a good stretch , it is NOT isolating and lengthening the Piriformis and other External Hip Rotators.

  • @cbb7uk That is what he has done, by placing her foot in the cross position over her other leg and then leaning to the side of the piriformis muscle. If she were leaning away, your point would be correct, but she is leaning in the direction of. . thereby putting tension on those fibers. It's just like the normal piriformis stretch, but seems to allow for a greater tension.

  • Awesome. Thanks for sharing!

  • Great stretch, thanks for sharing! Really hits the problem area for me!

  • muscles are not bits of rubber band, and as such should not be stretched in the same way as a rubber band as what is being done above, the stretch should be done and then held for 30secs or so then move back slowly.

    otherwise enjoy knackered muscle connectors

  • @BHALT0S you are right and I noticed the same thing... this is not how you perform any stretches anywhere on your body. You gotta wonder what kind of "Personal Trainer and Sports coach" would put up a video showing demonstrating exactly the wrong way to stretch a muscle?

  • @ScratchTT lol, the kind that calls himself "The director of Performance University"

ive never heard of a University in the whole wide world, thats called the Performance University, not a real one that is.... maybe on paper, so sad im from Scotland and we get loads of this kinda crap in the UK now.

my dog can show a person how to stretch properly, in fact look at most animals and none of them bounce about whilst stretching, humans are animals.

Stretch long and slow and easy.

  • @BHALT0S one of the characteristics of muscle fibers that makes them unique is the fact that they have elasticity.. and by working these muscles dynamically you're activating the fibers to contract and relax and thus warm up.. as stated in the title of the video

  • Could this not put stress on the right hip abductors if they try to stop the adduction of the right leg? Ladies would have to have some strong M. Triceps to take the weight of the hip region now wouldnt they?

  • How are you stretching the piriformis if your doing external rotation?

  • @lordtkn I think it is because M. Piriformis becomes a medial rotator at 90¤'s of hipflexion!

  • @famnel1 where did you read that? your fount? Maybe a biomechanic book? Can you tell me which, please. ;D

    Cheers.

  • @lordtkn Hmm, i dont even remember, but it might be from Charles Poliquin og Signe Brunstromm. Google it :)

  • Would help to have multiple angles to see movement a little better but thanks for posting, I've been trying all kinds of piriformis stretches

  • haha diggity. if anything its eccentrically loading. im so far ahead of you im bored waiting 4 u to get the kmowlege!

  • Muscle can ONLY contract or relax, By Leaning into the HIP u are making it Fire (Contract) because it has to stabilize the hip, thus not stretching it.

  • @jdcc33 if anything this is dynamic stretching....try to keep up..

  • Nice. This is the first stretch I've felt in my hips-the first try. I plan to add it to my regluar stretching routine. Thanks!

  • I have had a sore hip from overuse, my friend the chiropractor tells me, always past 20 ks my butt gets injured, so I am trying to offset his. His says its my piriformis and glute minimus. I will try this stretch, figure four also has work in the past, wqhile I push my bent kneedown slightly to tilt it getting at the muscle. Do you recommend anything else? WOuld this stretch you are putting on here get to this area?

  • hi people.

"most practical one is in the video Piriformis Stretch For Back Pain and Sciatica.....Done right"

see video in the right list

  • Very good stretch, I'm using it almost everyday, but I tend to feel it much more in the medial glute than in the piriformis

I guess it depends on personal stiff spots.

  • Ok....this is amazing and feels SO GOOD!

  • Hi, that is a good Stretch. I always find the piriformis difficult to get to and that really works.

Could you tell which one of your dvd's it's from please?

  • Hi,

I was sitting on a small stool for about 45 minutes reading. I had been sitting kind of towards my left glut/buttock. Later that evening, I noticed that I had pain on that side - like a "Charlie Horse" sensation. The next day, I had siatic symptoms - numbness in my left lower buttock and read leg.

I've had it for about 4 mons. .just learned about these exercises. Chyro., neurologists din't help me. I did internet search found "Fat Wallet" syndrome.

Curious, does this ever go away?

  • You can send me some money!

  • Yes! it should go away. It´s very often caused by a desagreable combination of lack in moviment, short and tense muscles (check muscles Physiologie ... bad h²o drinker, cigarrets, booze, etc) and stress. To reverse your actual situation you must tackle the above mentioned... lots of swimming , stretching walking and bycicle.... by the way ....free your mind from stress .take care !

  • Thanks for the reply!

Been about 9 months now and my leg and buttock is still numb / tingling.

No pain though, just the numbness behind the leg and on the buttock.

  • will do!

thanks again for the feedback and tips!!
