I can connect VAIO to my TV, also can see the pictures on TV (as there is an option to "play on another device") but can see the same option for Music and Videos folder in Media Plus
Well i have connected my PS3 to my VAIO but i keeps lagging like hell! any idea? i comes like scurres and flashy screen, i cant see any thing .. some1 help plz :D
Is it possible, to use the playstation 3 in the way how diffrent Audio/Video Receivers are working to play Music over DLNA? Means: control the music and playlists at a PC and the PS3 is the just player?
There is a function in the Windows Mediaplayer, "play to.." called.
@matselink The Media Player function "play to" refers to a DLNA feature called 'rendering', which allows server devices (like a PC) to push content to players (like TVs). Unfortunately, the PS3 doesn't support the DLNA render feature - you can browse network media sources from the PS3 but not push it to the PS3 from those devices.
i ahve a problem sir, as the default my vaio has the vaio media plus installed, and i have ps3 too, but, when im running vmp , and running easy setup, it shows a black screen with notes that , THE FOLLOWING ITEAMS ARE SET, PLEASE WAIT, but htis waiting is not ending, and some how i have to quit the program from taskmanager , what should i do? ive quitet the firewall and other stuffs, i hope ill get some help from you good sir :)
That's cool. I tried, but I get a DLNA error on the PS3...I don't recall the number. It sees the phone, and I can see folders for movies, photos, etc, but nothing in the folders. Will try again.
@shawnfarand Depending on the other hardware you have in the mix (routers and other network devices) it can sometimes take a bit of fiddling to get it to work - normally restarting your router helps.
How does this have anything to do with DLNA??? I have a DLNA enabled phone. Are you saying that I should/could be able to do the same thing using my PS3 with that phone?
@shawnfarand Yep. If you have a DLNA capable phone (such as the Sony Ericsson Xperia models), you can turn on media streaming, connect it to the same network and DLNA should allow your PS3 to see the photos, music and movies on your phone and display them on your TV over the network.
@vishal0590 Any modern PC can be set up for DLNA compatibility. In Windows Media Player, look up 'media sharing' or 'media streaming' in the help and it will talk you through it. Otherwise the (non-Sony) PS3 Media Server application generally works well - just do a Google search for it
@showboy321 PMB is really a different application (it's for managing photos/video, not sharing them on a network). Windows Media Player works well (especially v12 in Windows 7) to share most of your photos and videos. Click the 'Stream' drop down in Media Player 12 to get set up.
I had problems with vaio media plus, the vaio content folder settings cannot add folders . i can't check the box and if i typed the folder it only appears a notification "cannot add c:\users\mimi("name of useraccount") because is restricted by independent user" can anyone help me with this problem.. it would be a big help.. thanks
@Tktouch595 Yep. Several of the 2011 BRAVIA models will allow browsing of the web as well as the range of 'internet' features like Skype, Facebook, YouTube etc. The new browser is similar to that found on mobile phones and will let you view most sites.
@gremmer13 Try opening up 'detailed settings' under the settings menu in VAIO Media Plus. You can set up the devices that your VAIO can share to there and you should be able to check if your PS3 is registered as a authorized device for accessing the media.
I keep getting a message on the PS3 that access to the media server isn't allowed. Says "It is possible that the system name for this PS3 system has not been registered. Check the settings for the media server"... which settings?
@wcd1695 When both the VAIO and PS3 are on the network open Media Plus and go to the settings column (toolbox icon), then down to Communications settings (globe). Check that 'Share Content' is set to "share"; then open 'Detailed settings' and click the settings button for 'shared device settings'. Make sure your PS3 is in the list and the sharing box is ticked. Hope that helps.
@sergiu239 I'm afraid not using the standard DLNA protocol. DLNA lets a playback device like the PS3 or a BRAVIA TV see compatible files from another media server device (like a VAIO) but you can't remotely access the entire PC screen. You can get devices like Ethernet to HDMI baluns which will let you do this but there's more complex hardware involved.
@greenben101 If you have a range of video formats, you're right, TVersity is a great option (because it can convert incompatible video formats on-the-fly). Media Plus supports conversion only for WMV and DV-AVI formats.
Nero Media Home also offers similar functionality if you're looking for alternatives.
@pastilolly Some of the PS3 games are compatible with Remote Play (which is now available as a download for selected VAIO notebooks) - however it's a pretty limited range. Otherwise, you'd have to get some form of video input/capture device for your VAIO as the PS3 can't connect directly.
@sonylearntv By the way, we'll cover Remote Play in a future LearnTV episode, but if you have a recent VAIO, check out the remote play app at sony.com.au/article/3969
i have done every1 of the things you have mentioned and it only shows 2 of my videos while i got over 100 videos...i have tried everything i can its just wont show anymore videos...its getting on my nerves
I can not see anything from my computer. The PS3 sees the media server but there is nothing on the folders, even when this has been up for a long time, I actually have just one video on the video folder and I havn't been able to see it on the PS3. What am I missing?
It won't work. My PS3 won't even detect my vaio or vise versa. Everything is up to date and it's all connected to the same network. Can someone please help me becuase i've tried to get help from Sony Support but apparently some of their employees haven't even heard about it, cuase all the times i've called they can never help, one guy didn't even know what media plus was.
This is most commonly caused by software firewalls - Media Plus opens the Windows firewall for you but not others. If you're running a software firewall (Zone Alarm, Norton etc) try disabling this and then running Media Plus again as a test (you might want to temporarily disconnect your router from the Internet first, and be sure to re-enable your firewall again after the test to keep your PC secure). If this fixes it, you'll need to selectively allow Media Plus in your f/wall configuration.
@art2487 I had the same problem. Use PS3 media Server!! the thing is free and works awesome. I can stream media like music, and video right on the PS3 with it and do not even need to reformat videos because it has great filters you can also have subtitles on it.
@jeranien You just donwload it for free, install it, run program, trun on ps3 and that's it! My cousin came with this and I can only say: try it, you will like it.... A LOT!
It works way better with way more and better features then the stuff in the video...no offence sonylearntv.
You can't download the software separately. In Windows 7 the Media Player has some of the same functionality when you choose to share your media from it.
If you installed the "retail" version of Windows 7 from scratch you won't be able to retain Media Plus. You might be restore your VAIO back to its factory state (with recovery discs) and then do an in-place upgrade to Win7 (depends on what operating system you're starting from though).
I finally got it to work. Couldn't at first. First, my PS3 can already detect when my Vaio is on. Took me a while to find the permission setup, but now I can finally get all my files from Vaio Media Plus to my PS3.
Provided both your PS3 and your computer are on the same network (there would have to be a wired or wireless router in there somewhere...) you should be fine.
The software I've demonstrated (Media Plus) is exclusive to VAIO, however some of the functionality is available through Windows Media Player (especially in Win 7)
I use TwonkyMedia server on WD MyBook 1TB connected to my home 1GB Ethernet. with PS3 and Dreambox 800HD, and home WiFi router plus internet. As a result can save HD media on ext HDD and watch on PS3 via DLNA, etc.
If you point Media Plus to folders on the external HDD it wil reference all the files there. Provided you have the HDD connected you can access everything on it through Media Plus... and onward to your PS3 etc.
Yep - Windows Media Player 11 can also act as a DLNA server - and there are several other software applications and devices like NAS storage devices which support UPnP AV (or DLNA) streaming.
The benefit of Media Plus on VAIO is its ease-of-use and the fact it also 'collects' media from other devices on the network (something I didn't really cover in this video)
I can connect VAIO to my TV, also can see the pictures on TV (as there is an option to "play on another device") but can see the same option for Music and Videos folder in Media Plus
Please help
