Is there blood and cruelness like in Higurashi? Don't know but higurashi looks much better to me, I like those psycho animes. This kinda looks boring, but so many people say it's better than higurashi...

@kh2team depends highly on the version, i would say the SN is better then Higurashi, it even pokes fun at higurashi at some points; "let me guess everything was caused by a disease called rokkenjima syndrom tha makes people go insane"(lamba says something like that anyway :P) also umineko is a complete story, Umineko has ended were higurashi can still have another 50 games based on story arcs we didn't see since according to Rika she has had the time loop happen thousands of times.

@kh2team well yes the anime for higurashi is much much better to umineko although I highly recomend you read the manga, it is like the anime just 11 times better and actually makes sense, plus ther ending actually answers questions unlike deens which just says battler has said all the wrong things.(also if you like higurashi you should also read the manga for that, it is like the series but with less censorship)

@edl01reviews maybe one day, i got enough information out of higurashi anime, if that's all the manga as over the anime then i'm not interested (i don't read alot of mangas anyways) but i may read umineko, i hated the anime, battler is super stupid. Beatrice "Battler 2+2=4!!" ; Battler- "NO 2+2=5", thats pretty much the whole anime.

@kh2team no higurashi's manga doesnt miss out anything major (although kai has a filler rc to explain inconsitancies misse dout in the origional) but there is just a few interesting parts.

The manga also does a great job of making battler come off as very inteligent, I actually took Battlers side in the manga since he comes up with some damn good theories, sadly the anime doesnt come off like this at all and paints battler as wrong in the wrong were the manga paints both sides as equal.

@kh2team Well, if you ask me, the visual novel is the best way to go. It gives a ton of insight to the characters and their thoughts, including WHY Battler makes some real crazy, if not stupid, theories: he KNOWS that a number of his anti-fantasy theories are stupid, but since he's so determined to deny witches, he feels he must twist his own logic and common sense just to make an argument.

You could still go for the manga, but only the first arc has a complete translation as of today.

@kh2team Also, what did you like about Higurashi, or at least the anime? Did you ever get to read the visual novel adaptation of that? Because the atmosphere for that differs from the anime, which tries to accentuate the scariness and violence more than the actual mystery and overall character development; I guess it worked for the Higurashi anime, but it definitely did NOT for the Umineko anime (both had the same director). But trust me, the VN is still pretty damn scary and violent.

@immblueversion what i liked about higurashi?, the way it told it's story. the way i could actually come up with my own theories for what was going on and actually be able to get some of those right...and finally the atmosphere it gave. that's pretty much what i liked about it. i actually didn't like kai so much. im just comparing the quality of the animes. it also isn't one of my favorite animes, and i am NOT talking about the visual novel in which i don't know anything about =)

@kh2team Well, guess what? With the Umineko visual novel, people have made TONS of theories. They've had serious discussions of what's really been going on, even from the non-magical stance Battler tries to give. And if there's one thing the visual novels of both Higurashi and Umineko deliver, it's atmosphere. Its masterful use of music and sound effects really know how to put people on the edge of their seats. So if you don't like it more than Higurashi, you certainly will like it.

@kh2team It's just a shame that the console remakes of the games won't be going outside of Japan. Their art is vastly improved over the original visual novels', which is, needless to say, rather crude in that department. The remakes also have voice acting, which is one of the redeeming qualities of the Umineko anime, using the same actors with only one or two changes to minor, barely recurring cast members.

the drawings and animations of higurashi and umineko have the SAME quality. if higurashi had the same animation like madoka (SHAFT) or The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya )Kyoto Animation) than you can say "Higurashi looks visual so much better tha Umineko." But like i say the two animes (Higurashi/Umineko) have NO Visual Quality diffrends o_O

and every REAL animefan knows that the visual animations/drawings of DEEN are not really good in comparison to other studios ....

yeah thats just the feeling i got after watching only 3 of the tea parties so i'm sure there is so much more than we can imagine that has yet to be revealed... plus i just watched the episodes 1-4 and i now believe that although i am a diehard higurashi fan that umineko will make a worthy successor to the name... i look forward to seeing how the plot develops and i hope they draw upon the linking elements between the 2 in future episodes... i need to get the games so i can continue to learn more

i can kinda see what you were saying after watching a couple of the tea parties... it almost feels like to me that higurashi was a game using real people that was designed as somewhat of a test so yes it happened yes real people died but the fact that it kept repeating until rika lived and bernkastel won was more of a test of ability on bernkastels part and the test to see how far a human will go to survive and how many deaths she will endure to live... at least thats how i see it so far

Bern didn't exist before Higurashi. When Hanyuu took Rika's memories from one shard to another, some of those were "lost." Those "lost" memories were used to create Bernkastel and give her power so that she could finally beat Lambdadelta.

I forget, but it's in one of the VN's for Umineko that Bernkastel had been created from a thousand years' worth of memories. She also hates Lambda for treating her so terribly during that time.

The part of the "lost" memories creating Bernkastel is my own theory. I also have the theory that Bernkastel and Frederica Bernkastel are completely different people.

Here's the thing. Hanyuu would do her best to recreate Rika's memories, and she would forget things. Bern was created from memory.

@fallensalvation From what I understand, after reading TIPS like Lambda's Diary, Lambda first discovered Hinamizawa because she gave people the chances to fufil their dreams. She heard Takano's wish to become a god and found it interesting enough to be worth granting. But after Rika died in the first world, Hanyuu jumped to another kakera with Rika and Lambda also helped the Takano of that Kakera. Several cycles later, Bernkastel was created and they played just like you said.
