I am a fan of the british show Red dwarf and decided to look this up because it was mentioned in one of the shows, ("tales of the riverbank the fifth generation" lol. And they talk about how hammy was a diva lol) Now watching this i remember that this was part of "Pinwheel" a childerns show here in the US that was the original show for what is now Nickolodean, or as its now called Nick. I loved this show so thank you for uploading these and please keep em coming.
this tune.....just makes me want to curl up on the sofa, with Mr Bear and a cup of hot milk, Mum's voice drifting through from the kitchen....rain pattering on the window, warm and safe, not a care in the world, about five years old. Why do we have to grow up.
Oh gosh! Hammy Hamster!! <3 My brother used to love this when he was younger! My mom would get up every morning at 5:30 to record it off the Starz station. It used to come on like 2 days a week back then. I wish I knew what happened to all those episodes... Its great to see it again!
If I was a kid and watching this I would think this was so cute, I'm older now and all I can think is animal abuse :P especially thinking about how they got that hat on the little guy...
lol i used 2 wake up at 6 am 2 watch this i think it was later episodes as the white rat was martha) on animal planet im looking for the christmas episode
Thank you nightbusdriver2, Yes it could have been canadian, I just remember pre cartoons, Mr Piper was quite a big rotund man, he always reminded me of my grandad. I will have another try,
how weird, I was jsut about to post the same question. I seem to remember that 'Tales of the Riverbank' was part of it, and a chap used to say something like 'and lets see whats happening down on the riverbank' and would make a big thing of pointing down to a mousehole. 'Come with me come with me, all the wonders you will see'...;)
@cbcb102 .I've being looking too.As I recall there was a segment where there was a story about 3 large dogs that had a horde of gold and silver..its a long time ago,but enchanting is the term I'd use.The Piped Piper as
I recall was a rodund chap, and dressed in short trousers with braces.I loved it and want to show my own kids what entertained me as a nipper.
I haven't seen one of these since I was a wee tacker. Cor, it takes me back. I had a hamster named after him, like about ten million other Brit kids at the time.
Growing up in Michigan, right across the river from Ontario (in the days before cable), I used to watch this, the Secret Railroad, and Barbapapas! I loved Hammy Hamster, but someone in my adult mind I remembered G.P. sounding like W.C. Fields for some reason. Either way, it's great to see this again. I wish it were available on DVD.

Genius. I remember having cassettes of this when i was a kid and loving it to pieces :) Loved Hammy! God, this thing is better than the shizz that passes on Disney Channel nowadays!
Is it true Hammy received a Grammy for this?! :) Thanks for sharing! I used to love this show as a kid! I think I even remember this episode...but not the accents.
@MrsPygmypuff20 - the original Tales were in black and white, made in 1960, these tales are shorter episodes made years later, in colour. Still good though doncha think?
I remember this show from the early 60s when it was in black and white. I seem to remember a little boat they put a mouse in and then floated down the stream or something like that. So long ago its hard to remember. I love the correct British accents maybe this and the great productions is why I've always loved Masterpiece Theatre so much. Anyway Thanks for reminding me of my youth and a much simpler time.
Lol, rats dont eat hamsters or guinea pigs. I have rescued many, many rats and I have four right now and they get along really well with my bunnies.. Domestic, well-fed rats wouldn't eat another animal.

I used to love this show but apparently they superglued there paws to boats etc. so that why they stopped doing it (animal cruelty) they killed them at the end of the day...although that all ive heard so i didnt say that...xx

Well, not sure how it ever changed so much, but the 70's/80's version I remember had Shelly Turtle running the Post Office, and Miss Much (a mouse) running the General Store.
These videos are fantastic. Hammy is at his best during these timeless shows. I feel sorry about Hammy's later slide into alcoholism and drug abuse as a result of his fame which ultimately led to his untimely demise aged only 2. We all miss his little furry face. RIP.
This is the most charming kiddies TV series ever, despite what people might think about the programme being cruel using real animal 'actors' i reckon the animals loved taking part in the filming and getting to mess around in all the cleverly designed sets / toys etc. Apparently there is going to be a new DVD feature film coming out in 2008! If anyone has the Canadian version, I'd love to see it. GP had the funniest voice, like a 1920s gangster, where he'd say 'seeeee?...' at the end of his sentences. Loved that!
Oh my good old google. Been wondering what this show was called. New had to do with hamsters and ariverbank. Always remember them going down river in little motorboats
