  • vaya faena la tuya tio, que mérito!

  • Dude you are so awesome, how many of these do you port to guitar, man, this is so awesome i gotta get back into guitar now!

  • realy nice work. Its a real good and innovative tune, but still somehow dont like the end... its kinda lame compared to the original

  • awsome!!!

  • well done, this is brilliant

  • awesome, stunning work mate

you're my new hero and Andrew Flanders will be synonymous with the twin for me forever more

  • dude, really, thanks, this made smile like you had no idea :)

  • powerful stuff

  • Why are you ruining his masterpiece?

  • WAOO!!! it's very cool, i love this song... is confused and stranger. and you can play guitar with this song... is amazing

  • nice couch.

  • this one's a pantie dropper! love it.

  • anyone heard the piano version of this on the johnsons baby advert? very fucking surreal

  • no tell me more

  • well basically i was watching tv the other day and during the adverts my ear caught a melody and chord arrangment that i recognised. It was during a most recent johnsons baby advert and in the background is a piano arrangement of girl/boy song from the Richard D James album. Its really odd, being a big Richard James fan to hear stuff like that as although its a beautiful song and fits well its not something i expected. Definately is girl/boy song tho

  • I hope they don't try to skip out on paying royalties like NBC apparently did when they used Avril 14th on SNL last year.

  • oh for the lonely island rap thing? yeah i remember hearing that, didnt know they didnt pay any royalties. Love your guitar covers by the way. they really are something.

  • ye i heard that, thought it was just a rip off/ soundalike.

  • its not for note identical

  • Yeah I remember shouting at the TV about it.

  • @phantomdoodler i heard that too!

  • @phantomdoodler saw their new advert the other day and I thought I was imagining it! :]] when the bells came in at the end I was almost certain. I'm glad someone else noticed this.

  • @phantomdoodler haha thank god some one els noticed that!

  • @phantomdoodler Yeah I heard the exact same advert. Very strange but very nice in a way to say I know who did the song originally.

  • YES! i mistakenly thought it was 'to cure a weakling child', probably because of what the ad is for but yes, glad you confirmed this.

  • yea iv been trying to find it, its fucking no where!

  • it's SMA Baby Formula not Johnson's

  • check out Adem's album "Takes" track 6

  • @phantomdoodler

    Definately SMA Formula AD

    Right here: watch?v=5sO6uHyzs2w

  • Wow man! This is fucking insane!!

  • cool reinterpretation.

  • hey, is your name ned?

  • man... what I can say. you gave me something special, something big in my head....

  • thanks so much for the video and tabs, this is such a beautiful song to play and the guitar certainly gives the song a new feel

  • oh wow

  • This is cool, well done.

  • I think the tabs are not an indication to wether(how do you spell it :( forgot) it is right or wrong, because it can be interpreted...

  • Wow, man...

  • must learn how to play thissssssss...you got tabs?

  • Made me smile =]

  • i'm so dumb nevermind about tabs...

  • VERY nice. Really enjoyed that.

  • master, thx

  • Very very nice!!

  • oh btw.... Shut up, Flanders! Haha! ;-) j/k. Keep up the good work.

  • Needs work

  • what? no it totally doesnt, its awesome the way it is. are you deaf?

  • Its been a favourite song of mine since it was released in 1996 and I know it well. Up to 0:16 its not right. From 0:37 to 0:55, 1:32 to 1:50 +from 1:32 to 1:50 (s)he improvised 2 much + its like somebody's Dad playing in a church +at 4:00 I don't recognize it from the original

There are missed notes at 0:17 and 2:10

However that's to be expected with such a difficult piece (s)he's an above average guitar player who uses the top string particularly well with a good ear and good taste in my view.

  • its a cover version. with own interpretation and own point of view. its not meant to be an exact copy of the original. if there are parts where he/she wants to improvise, its fine. that doesnt automatically mean its bad because its different from the original. wow, youre really close minded. and this as an aphex twin fan.

  • jesus, shut up. these are the worst fucking kind of comments on youtube.

  • the end of my guitar version is extremely different than the original... on purpose! Also even if I were a better guitar player and could do a more accurate not for note I'm not sure I'd want to because it would become less accessible to people who play for fun.

  • I think you've improved immensely since this anyway

  • you're being a dick in my view.

  • I'm sorry everybody, jeez

  • @theyellowfury

Man, why are you "grading" this performance. The fact is it is an impressive acoustic interpretation of an amazingly complex electronic song; why go through and timestamp inconsistencies? For that matter *wait for the sarcasm* 0:00 to 4:17, I didn't hear any drums....

Great work, Andrew; keep at it!

  • ......

  • lke at 0:43 reminds me of the rip by potishead

  • the rip ?

  • Very amazing! That song makes me feel happy. And it's super on guitar. this makes me feel better after listening something like 'Ketsarku Mozgalom' from Venetian Snares.

  • Good job dude, well played

  • good ol' richie should take this guy on tour...pronto.

  • you can't imagine how sceptical i was when i saw the title to this video, but you got it spot on and turned my mood right around. a very excellent rendition of the afx masterpiece on guitar (and i'm a guitarist). thanks for the upload!

  • couldn't have said that better myself.

  • u! do it right bra, some cats be trying but they just cant do it right . kudo's hoemay!

  • I like the way the camera only picks up the blur of your hand as it's strumming, it's somehow very fitting for the song.

  • im too drunk to really understand what your doing here, truely amazing! Favorited, will be viewing many times

  • amazing! gonna try and learn it myself

  • i downloaded it. This is great work

  • It's impossible to match the speed and precision of machines that's evoked in electronic music (sad in a way, when you think about it and where we might be headed =\ ) but, within the constraints of human ability, you've performed a very beautiful, technically skillful, and moving piece. *Said as the horse guy from Ren and Stimpey* "Yes sir, I like it!"

  • mr. horse?

    =)

  • wow. really good job.

    i love it.

  • simply great, i become addicted to this video

  • It´s Genius. I just Goldwaved it for my iPod

  • cool! there's a li nk to an mp3 that sounds better in the more info box

  • Yeah, that's really cool....

  • this music makes me feel more optimistic and uplifed that any other music i've ever heard, thanks

  • I like your version. It sounds individual.

  • Simply Amazing.

    <3

  • Dont want to sound like a twat.

But why do you play so shit at the start, then get good all of a suddern?

Like the first ten seconds dont sound like the song at all. Then BANG

    Amazing

    I love it =]

  • Well thats kinda how it goes

  • Not really. =P

  • Maybe he was trying to trick us into thinking he was horrible, that way we'd be more surprised when he got all talented haha

  • Thank you for posting this, did you piece it together just from listening to the aphex version? Must have taken some time. It sounds fantastic.

  • Thanks, yes it's based on the Aphex version. I got the idea for how to about adapting these from observing Lindsay Buckingham's fingerstyle.

  • Great!

    I Love this music!

  • Good effort!

  • that's impressive

  • Your right , the sound is amazing ... keep listening to aphex twin .... :)

Have a good time in your country !

  • Hello , what guitar do you use ? it has a gorgeous sound .

  • It's a Tacoma PK-30. I definately bought it for the sound. It has a thunderous bass.

  • cool

  • fantastic man.. really enjoyed that one x

  • dude, this is really great. I'm a deep metal guitarist, but jeez this is awsome. impressed!

  • holy shit!

  • Excellently done!!! 5/5 and favorited!!

  • good job man. Do you think you could send me the tabs for this. I've been trying to learn it but haven't really gotten anywhere with it.

  • there's a link to tab in the description. report back with your progress sometime!

  • good job!

  • Great job on the transcription. I think that the performance barely hinders the underlying melody, but I'd love to see an updated version.

  • A little rough, but really great transcription. Just goes to show, despite crazy expression, RDJ is an amazing composer of melodies.

  • I've become a lot better at fingerstyle since I recorded this. Prior to this I had only ever used a pick and now I hardly pick one up. I wish I could replace the video with a newer version without losing all the comments and stuff.

Aphex's melodies are evocative and definately stand on their own. A lot of electronic musicians make the substance serve the style. Obviously not the case with Aphex Twin.

  • You should totally record a new version and post it as a response to this one so people could see!

  • Video response; good call

  • wonderful,,,

is really like original song !

    great cover !

  • g r e a t !

  • good work, very well done

  • Great job on transcribing multi track works onto one instrument!!! :)

  • you should do an mp3 album of these, like on myspace or something. so awesome

  • I've recorded a few mp3s, I'll do more as I get time. This one is linked in the more info box in the upper right corner.

  • Make a myspace already.

  • This is really amazing! I thought this song would be impossible to play on the guitar but you sure showed me wrong.

  • incredible! This WILL have a lot more views!! I'm in Awe

  • i wish i was sitting in that room with a bong to hear that. awesome

  • mucho props, loved it

  • ohhh...great tempo

  • most amazing my friend!

  • ribelo vinero cantalo ribela diego fifi vroom vroom very nice but didale interesting favela boom boom brings a tear to my eye every time. donelala you fucking genius.

  • This is good. Now can you go to the next level and put a feeling of 'attack' into it? Your challenge chaps.

  • im tryin to learn this song on guitar, any tips?

  • Tap your foot to keep a beat, play it very very slow, start by just playing the bass lines and then add in the melody notes later.

There's a part near the end that's just plain hard. I had to practice it a lot before I could pull it off for a video but it's become as easy as anything else since then.

The best part of it all is being able to play those between-the-beat eighth notes of which that hard part has many. Once you master that everything seems easy and feels really good to play.

  • This one of my favourite Aphex Twin tracks, but I've always thought it was so good because of the stark contrast between the ambient melody and the insane off-beat drums. This proves me wrong as it works so well on its own.

    Good job! =]

  • Haha, that's the plan, to make people realize Aphex Twin is better than they had originally thought.

  • Great job. =]

  • Sounds great. :]

  • you're cool. seriously. :)

  • Dude. that's amazing. perfect. Isn't Richard D. James the Picasso for our times? musical Genius i'd say. Nice tribute to the man!~ Good playing there.

  • hes definitely genius - so is pusher in my opinion but people seem to disagree

  • I think Squarepusher has more in common with jazz while Aphex Twin is more of an expansion on pop and classical. I'm not a fan of jazz. For me it's too much. It's music for musicians with too much skill who are looking for an outlet to go nuts. There's no room to breathe, no room to reflect. Less is more I say.

  • they are both musicians and they respect eachother. theres no point comparing they are just as good as eachother . same goes for style music is music and you cant compare jazz to classical just as you cant compare modern art to ancient african art. theres no point going into depth about why you think pusher is not as good as aphex.

  • No, you misunderstand. I'm not saying Squarepusher is bad, there is no such thing as bad art, I'm saying most of his music isn't for me. I love Lost In Space and Iambic 5 Poetry and many more of his songs, but I choose not to listen to his more frenetic stuff because I don't emotionaly connect with it. You're making a conflict where there is none.

  • ok yeah sorry i get what your saying.

  • amazing work this one seems tough to play a lot of stuff going on.

  • this really is my favourite song of all time

and it really works on guitar aswell

    true beauty...

  • I agree. Some Aphex songs are dependant on percussion but this isn't one of them.

  • beautiful folksy renditions! even w/o the wonderfuly spastic drumming.

  • I would think if you can't hear the 3rd though, that b3 sticks out like a sore thumb to me, but theoretically, I follow you. Great work, in any event.

  • A link to tab is in the "more info" section

  • Thanks for posting your tabs, Andrew! Way cool of you to take the time to do that. Keep up the awesome work!

  • Maybe shoot one up for Bbydhyonchord too?

  • Possible that the Bm is a Bmaj (x2x442)?

  • In the original I don't hear the 3rd note of the chord played by any instrument during that part so it would be a B5 technically, but in keeping with the key a C major that third note would be an F, which makes for a D minor (or in relative capo terms, for the key of A major the third note would be a D which makes for a B minor).

  • Capo aside, it looks as if you are playing in Emaj. You use Emaj, F#m9, G#m(implied), Amaj, C#min, Dmaj7, so wouldn't Bmaj fall in there too?

  • A Bmaj isn't outright discordant despite not falling perfectly in key, and many songs use a maj in place of a min for effect. I wouldn't use it personally but I wouldn't fault you for using it either. The whole thing is interpretive so there's no right or wrong answers.

  • this is amazing!

  • great! youe really talented!! :-)

  • Who thats really great man, I was imagining that "Girl/Boy song" on guitar would suck but you are

    very talented

  • this should have more views!!

    its awesome!

  • WOO AWSOME!! <3 Aphex Twin

  • It's a little choppy at first, but this came out pretty darn good. Is this in standard tuning?

  • Thanks! Yeah it's standard tuning with a capo on the 3rd fret. I tried to get close in on the fingers in case anyone else wants to try this out or even improve upon it.

  • This is really great work, my friend. Been an Aphex nut since '95, and a guitar nut since '02. Any chance of you throwing together a transcription? I can get bits from the video, but I'd love to add this to my repertoire completely!
