I remember watching "The Popeye"movie cartoons weekday evenings and afternoons on WPIX TV Ch.11 in NYC..as far back as the late 1950's."Capt.sAllen"Swift And Jack McCarthy were the show's mc.'s on Ch.11.
@mrmjb60 You are wrong, dsslave2 is right. It is called "Hot As Sun" from Paul McCartney's first solo album in 1970. "Suicide" was an outtake that was included as a bonus track on the 2011 reissue of this album.
Wow. What memories. :-) I was born in Brooklyn in 1969, so I grew up in the 1970s watching popeye cartoons (among other cartoons) on WNEW (channel 5). If I recall correctly, this usually aired around 5am?
@dsslave2 Maybe both? 5am on saturday mornings and 3pm on weekdays? I do recall watching popeye and friends, but I also recall rarely being up at around 5am unless it was a saturday morning. Wanted to see alot of cartoons, as much as possible, on saturday mornings! :-)
@classicphile That's funny because I was also born in 1969 in Brooklyn and these were great cartoons on Channel 5 as well as Channel 11 back in the days.
I remember hearing that instrumental tune when watching "Popeye and Friends". All these years, I never knew until I read the description. So, it was Paul McCartney who made it. Does anyone know the name of the tune???

Hot As Sun came up on my MP3 player and told my wife it was used for Popeye back in the late 70's. She didn't remember. Thanks for the post!!

I remember this. In fact later when they acquired The 1960s Popeye Cartoons they used or Hottest Sun by McCartney speeded up as well. Great find.

this is McCartney's version sped up; I wonder how they got away with that?

@dsslave2 I believe you're right. In the mid to late 80s, it was on twice a day, 6:30 am and 2:15 pm.
