thanks Dan and to the person you talked to on the phone for sharing this. im 5'1" and 115lbs. my husband is 6'4" 250 lbs. i eat 2-3x what he eats!!!! what i hate is im struggling to be vegan again after trying raw vegan on and off for 6 months. i wanted to go back raw vegan and do it for life becoz of the great benefits physically and mentally and i dont want food tobe in control. I eat SAD food to connect or socialize or when im emotionally wreck. that's me and my husband fun thing to do.

Props to you for helping people start their detox! I stopped eating all processed white stuff a long time ago because I was getting IBS from frying vegetables in veg. oil. I juiced for yrs, love beets and radishes, and baked with the left over mulch long time ago. Portions of foodR small. My recent juicer parts got lost when I moved. So I eat healthy until I can buy another one. I miss juicing. I work out on beach early in morn, deep breathing, stretching, feng shui. I pick up rocks 4 arms etc.
Detox-Yes, i think this is too radical for him to do too fast. He is diabetic, needs more solid mix like avocado + spinach. I pop a few veggie chicken burghers in the toaster and put some Sugar free apricot preserves on it, bake organic sweet potatoes and pack then up for dinner. Carrot, Apple, Orange has a lot of sugars. Add the raw stuff like, celery+other veggs, bring along.He needs some solids. Juicing is work and won't keep up with it. He has to be able to live with it the rest of his life.

Hey i just started watching your videos and i love them all. specially the ones you are outside full of energy making smoothies. i'm a personal trainer and doing muay thai and mma. i've lost 15kg's to get back into the shape i was in before but now it's hard to continue for another 5kg's. and hey i'm a personal trainer! so i know how to do it. after theese videos i'm going to start on a 2 week raw food diet and see how it is. thank you for all the videos my friend! cheers from Norway
Beginners need to make their smoothies sweet or else they will turn their nose up at the thought of drinking it. Use as much fruit as needed to make that smoothie taste good.
Seriously Dan, if you have a once-a-month "retreat" somewhere, you'd sell out every time, and it would be so beneficial! If you haven't already, will you please consider this?

They just CANT stay in the same sentence. Safe weight loss can only be SLOW. Not only skin has to adjust to the change, but all the inner organs and muscles. I managed to lose about 120 lbs. since January 2011 solely by watching Dan's videos and believe me I still struggle with my new way of life, but I keep on truckin.

Lemon, Ginger blast. It's a juice you can make yourself. Dan has many videos on it. Put all of the following into a juicer. the ingredients are: apples 2 or 3, 1 lemon, 1 piece of ginger (thumb size or slightly smaller), kale I use 3-4 leafs, spinach 1-2 handfulls, celery 2-3, carrots 2-3, if you want more sweetness, add more apples....no sugar. Dan adds a hot pepper in his. Play with the recipe, add in whatever dark leafy greens appeal to you. It's the best drink on earth!

You can do it Don: When I started Jan 25th 2010 I could only walk on the treadmill for 10 minutes at 1 mph. Little steps brother, little steps and going vegan or vegatearian is a huge help. I went vegetarian cold turkey Nov 30th 2009 to stop my fast food and pizza addiction and have not had meat since. not even once but drastic measures are needed for guys like you and me to get back to health. I hope you can get on the green smoothie movement, the thicker the better.
Oh ya stay away from nuts, after dropping all the meat and dairy and other junk foods (I was a pizza and fast food junkie) I found too much comfort in nuts and its so high in fat and calaries its a massive stall to any weight loss. Good luck man and love to Dan
I would like to know when all this healthy eating will heal my depression. Im almost to the 210 lbs lost in the past 20 months but cant afford to green juice daily like I want as its so expensive. I know what they guy on the phone is talking about. I was 460 lbs and sick just waiting to die. Its a struggle daily and is a long long road to recovery and I hope he can find the way. I have almost zero support from anyone, I hope he can find a good support structure around him.

@michelinajf I am the best guy for beating myself up but slowly as I get closer to my goal I am starting to realize what I am doing. I hope Don can find the way as well. I agree with Dan about slow and steady over 2 to 3 years. I do cardio daily, mostly twice daily and weights 3 times a week and that helps with the mindset. Glad Don has joined the YMCA. IF he can afford it a trainer is worth gold for the first 3 or 6 months just to make sure you get to the gym until It becomes a habit

So basically no oil (including olive oil), no nuts (even raw), no avocados, no meat, no chicken, no fish, no dairy, no eggs and easy on the salt. Feel yourself up by eating mostly starch such as pasta, potatoes, rice and corn. Make fat free garlic and herb sauces in the blender, get a steamer and blend up smoothies in the morning. Eat as much as you like of the good stuff but don't pressure yourself to go cold turkey straight into raw.
Oh! Wrote way more but only the first part of my comment shows up. Anyway was basically saying that a Mcdougall or Esselstyn diet would be easier for now and just as effective especially when it comes to curbing the cravings.
Only had the opportunity to listen to 10 mins or so of the conversation so far but wouldn't it make sense for Don to transition to raw foods by doing a Dr Mcdougall type diet first and possibly just staying on that? I too LOVE food and tried being raw but I'd find myself being hungry in the evenings and when hungry you lower your standards and will eat anything! Starch REALLY feels me up though and stops the cravings. I would suggest to Don going completely vegan but getting most of his calorie
You really should consider opening up a life regeneration retreat to teach people how to mend the mind, body and spirit. I know I would pay to come to it. You are such a light :)
@chloegirl1005 I actually agree with that. Dan could probably charge people $1000/week + cost of the food, do 5 people at a time, doing that once a month and could totally cover the cost of Dan to pay for a cool retreat pad. ;D
good luck Don. I understand the caregiver issues with your mother. The dementia, the al facility, the house, etc. It's hard and can really make you not even know what you're eating. Take care of yourself. Be kind to yourself.
When one is physically addicted to food (sugar and refined carbs) we usually also usually are emotionally dependent on it. The withdrawal is AWFUL! There are withdrawal symptoms for a loooong time, not just the 1st 3 days. I have found that cravings are a signal! It usually means I am hungry - duh! So I feed the cravings with fruits and veggies...and puff, they go away! I found by not starving or enduring a craving I don't cave in to them. We also need support-!

I have been on a raw food diet now for 91 days and before that I was just vegan for 2 months. I have been experiencing a great amount of hair loss in the last 2 months and I am just desperate to find out how I can reverse this. I researched it and I found mention of raw seaweed and also a suggestion to eat more greens. I haven't tried the seaweed yet but I have been juicing and blending more greens. Do you have any suggestions?
All of this makes so much sense to me, Don I wish you every success, for me the issue isnt food at all.
One main problem for me with green juices is that they go threw me so fast, sometimes I only just make it to the bathroom, and thats not something I can cope with whilst working, any suggestions welcome.

Number 1 way to success to raw is to get enough calories! Plan how to get 3000 raw calories before you embark on your day everyday. It worked for me!

Lemon, Ginger blast. It's a juice you can make yourself. Dan has many videos on it. Put all of the following into a juicer. the ingredients are: apples 2 or 3, 1 lemon, 1 piece of ginger (thumb size or slightly smaller), kale I use 3-4 leafs, spinach 1-2 handfulls, celery 2-3, carrots 2-3, if you want more sweetness, add more apples....no sugar. Dan adds a hot pepper in his. Play with the recipe, add in whatever dark leafy greens appeal to you. It's the best drink on earth!

You can do it Don: When I started Jan 25th 2010 I could only walk on the treadmill for 10 minutes at 1 mph. Little steps brother, little steps and going vegan or vegatearian is a huge help. I went vegetarian cold turkey Nov 30th 2009 to stop my fast food and pizza addiction and have not had meat since. not even once but drastic measures are needed for guys like you and me to get back to health. I hope you can get on the green smoothie movement, the thicker the better.

Oh ya stay away from nuts, after dropping all the meat and dairy and other junk foods (I was a pizza and fast food junkie) I found too much comfort in nuts and its so high in fat and calaries its a massive stall to any weight loss. Good luck man and love to Dan

I would like to know when all this healthy eating will heal my depression. Im almost to the 210 lbs lost in the past 20 months but cant afford to green juice daily like I want as its so expensive. I know what they guy on the phone is talking about. I was 460 lbs and sick just waiting to die. Its a struggle daily and is a long long road to recovery and I hope he can find the way. I have almost zero support from anyone, I hope he can find a good support structure around him.

@michelinajf I am the best guy for beating myself up but slowly as I get closer to my goal I am starting to realize what I am doing. I hope Don can find the way as well. I agree with Dan about slow and steady over 2 to 3 years. I do cardio daily, mostly twice daily and weights 3 times a week and that helps with the mindset. Glad Don has joined the YMCA. IF he can afford it a trainer is worth gold for the first 3 or 6 months just to make sure you get to the gym until It becomes a habit

So basically no oil (including olive oil), no nuts (even raw), no avocados, no meat, no chicken, no fish, no dairy, no eggs and easy on the salt. Feel yourself up by eating mostly starch such as pasta, potatoes, rice and corn. Make fat free garlic and herb sauces in the blender, get a steamer and blend up smoothies in the morning. Eat as much as you like of the good stuff but don't pressure yourself to go cold turkey straight into raw.

Only had the opportunity to listen to 10 mins or so of the conversation so far but wouldn't it make sense for Don to transition to raw foods by doing a Dr Mcdougall type diet first and possibly just staying on that? I too LOVE food and tried being raw but I'd find myself being hungry in the evenings and when hungry you lower your standards and will eat anything! Starch REALLY feels me up though and stops the cravings. I would suggest to Don going completely vegan but getting most of his calorie

good luck Don. I understand the caregiver issues with your mother. The dementia, the al facility, the house, etc. It's hard and can really make you not even know what you're eating. Take care of yourself. Be kind to yourself.

When one is physically addicted to food (sugar and refined carbs) we usually also usually are emotionally dependent on it. The withdrawal is AWFUL! There are withdrawal symptoms for a loooong time, not just the 1st 3 days. I have found that cravings are a signal! It usually means I am hungry - duh! So I feed the cravings with fruits and veggies...and puff, they go away! I found by not starving or enduring a craving I don't cave in to them. We also need support-!

@kelvinyany I can almost " ALMOST" bet my life on it - that if you ask ANYONE with a weight problem " how" why when they got to be overweight its not such a simple answer and I bet they will also tell you they don't like being that way. I commend Don for speaking openly its very hard - I send loving thoughts to Don all . I also want to thank Dan for being such a blessing to so many. I have been on a raw food diet now for 91 days and before that I was just vegan for 2 months. I have been experiencing a great amount of hair loss in the last 2 months and I am just desperate to find out how I can reverse this. I researched it and I found mention of raw seaweed and also a suggestion to eat more greens. I haven't tried the seaweed yet but I have been juicing and blending more greens. Do you have any suggestions?

All of this makes so much sense to me, Don I wish you every success, for me the issue isnt food at all.
One main problem for me with green juices is that they go threw me so fast, sometimes I only just make it to the bathroom, and thats not something I can cope with whilst working, any suggestions welcome.
I recently had surgery,my wounds are healing, but failure is comfortable for me
