they never do say where Devil May Cry takes place, but, owing that the character's name is "Dante" we can asume its Italy. I've heard that Northern Italy kind of looks like where Dante lives.

Capcom just struck character design gold with Dante; I mean, the character is just plain COOL, there is no denying it.
